I ended up really liking this movie. There was just a surprisingly relatable and realistic aspect to nearly all of the characters. The two sisters really felt like someone you could know. It was refreshing to see, especially with female characters.
The early marketing for this film more or less went out of its way to make me dislike it I felt. Both my girlfriend and I were hardcore eyerolling when the first teaser was just the moose and the snowman and then the designs of the film just felt like the same stale Glen-Kean-faces.
We both really enjoyed it though. Even Olaf ended up being surprisingly great. While I am hopeful that disney will change up the style a little bit in future films (MOANA is apparently making use of the paperman technology so there is hope) the animation here was quite rich and this movie was a real experience.
The movie really did go against a lot of the expectations one might have with this kind of story but it all felt quite natural and not so much in a winking way for the most part.
All and all, great film.
