ah.

yeah....that was a pretty big mess up on Travolta's part......lol.

is there any truth that they only shortened Frozen but the other song performances were regular length?

love your avvy.............btw. Raven!!

They all have to be within a certain amount of time. She was talking on FB and Twitter about how she was rehearsing a different arraingment of the song for the AA because of the time each of the songs are given. I didn't notice with those that used instruments themselves had any problems, but I think there was a problem with those that were using the orchestra hearing through their earpiece since the orchestra was not on site. I'm sure there was just as much of a problem with the orchestra leader hearing the vocalist at his end. I'm not sure who's idea it was to have the orchestra off site, but it ended up being a pretty stupid decision. The sound from all of the vocalists was horrible at least for TV, not sure what it sounded like there.

Yeah, I too thought that having the orchestra located off-site at the Capitol Records building instead of inside the Oscar was a terrible idea. I think if the conductor were there, he could've tried to synchronize with Idina so they won't have the speed-up problem. Idina had no problem singing Let It Go at the mini Frozen concert just a couple of weeks ago, so I think the arrangement was a factor in her performance.

oh, so the other vocalists sounded off too?

and, yeah, that does seem like a stupid decision to not have a live orchestra.

do they normally do that at the Oscars?

I have never seen the Oscars without the orchestra in the orchestra pit or behind the stage.

It's something fairly new they either started last year or year before. I personally don't see the purpose of it.

Pink was spot on with "Over the Rainbow", but the sound to the TV audience as far as the vocalists was horrible. It sounded like all of the vocalists were in a tunnel. The orchestra as far as the TV was concerned was too loud. So if they couldn't even get that right, who knows what the heck the vocalists who had to hear the orchestra through an ear piece was hearing.

so has anyone else heard about that story that Idina had an asthma attack before singing?

her voice definitely sounded off, perhaps that was the reason??

if true, of course.

Robert Lopez, the songwriter who helped wrote the Frozen soundtrack including Let It Go with his wife, became a EGOT last night. It means he has won Emmy, Grammy, Tony, and now Oscar and he's only 39 years ago. It's quite an impressive achievement.

It may not have been "bad", but it certainly wasn't great. She's capable of much better.

I don't think she was nervous. I think people aren't used to seeing her sing live, especially up close. That's what she looks like/acts like, and sounds like live. She doesn't have a great lower range, which is why the opening of the song was a bit shaky.

The tempo being faster is not a good excuse for screwing up a song. If anything, it should have made the song easier to sing. She more or less completely lost it on the last belt. If her voice is tired, she had some options other than what she did, which was essentially screaming into the mike.

For a performer of her caliber, that kind of thing is pretty much inexcusable.

As for her looking upset...hard to say. She always looks upset.

yes!

I do not think she was happy with her performance, but that did not keep her from celebrating with the Lopezs on their win...she had several pics on twitter and fb after her performance. She got back into the celebration of things very quickly.

It's really not that big a deal. It's a live performance. Heck, half the most well known actors in the world stumbled over reading lines off a prompter, she can be forgiven a rough note or two.

yep.

she had an off night.

but the song still won, and Frozen still won Best Animated Picture!

now time for the post Oscar boost!!

come on $400M!!

People enjoyed her performance, and compared to the first performance I saw...what was that "The Moon Song"....that was just weird.

she also got a standing ovation, right??

Yep.....I didn't see "Happy" performed so don't know if it got a standing O or not...."The Moon Song" didn't...it didn't look like people knew exactly what to think about that one....lol All the other performances I saw did get a Standing O.

oh, so other performances got a standing O, too??

so they didn't stand for Idina just out of sympathy/pity?? :whatever:

Only U2 and Idina Menzel got standing ovation for their performance. I don't remember the song Happy got it too.
