Fantasy Disney's "Gargoyles" movie?

I need to catch up with the cartoon again at some point. Loved it when I was younger.

Do it my friend. I rewatched it maybe a year ago, and it was soooo much better than I remembered. Its mythology was so good.

James Wan better not screw this up, or his career is over.

He ruins this, he will have heck to pay!

The Shakespeare references went over my head as a kid but watching them again after having taken high school literature classes and all of a sudden it's...

Bruh, the Willy Shakes references, witchcraft, sorcery that show had no business being so good. No comment on the Goliath Chronicles season though.

I just remember the animation quality taking a big dip for that third season.

This was one of those cartoon series that I enjoyed as a kid but also during the time when I was starting to age and phase out of some cartoons and action figure collecting. Other interests and priorities and such.
I remember this because I recall walking down the toy aisles thinking man those are cool and I'd like to have some, but I already had TMNT, power rangers, X-men, Superman, Batman toys galore that ranged from my 1989 to about 1995 years of childhood. I think my last run of action figures I ever actually collected was Dragon Ball Z and I was already a tween. Though, now as an adult I've already recollected many of these as my son and I enjoy the hobby together lol.

Anyway, I enjoyed it enough that I would definitely be interested in a movie if done right. It's a shame that "if done right" even has to be mentioned, but we have unfortunate track records that we can reference.

Halle Berry is right there to be Elisa Maza.
I guess it’s possible in a post-Kyle Chandler/Hal Jordan world, but with a wealth of casting choices at their disposal, I have some doubts they’d go for the (soon to be) 60 year old in that role.

But there are soon to be 60 year olds, and then there is Halle Berry:

Just saying, her as Eliza and Denzel as a mo-cap Goliath would cook. :o

Georgina Campbell as Elisa

But Yara Shahidi is right there too as a backup

I see WB's idea to not continue their deal with Wan's Atomic Robot continues to pay dividends. For other companies.

Gary, you’re working on the “Gargoyles” reboot. It’s a Disney property, but you tend to work on very dark projects. Do you feel like this is going to be more sinister than people expect?

Dauberman: Oh, yes, another beloved piece of IP. This new iteration of “Gargoyles”… The show was already pretty dark in that it was serialized, it was a mature thing, it’s operatic and the story was so epic. I’m hoping it’s very similar to the vibe that you got when you were watching it back in the late ’90s. I just loved that half hour of television, falling into their world. I’m hoping we achieve that. It’s a lot of fun, though — it’s a thrill.

Adapting Gargoyles for live-action “will be challenging,” but Dauberman says they are “talking to some great people. We are still keeping that darkness to it. I’m excited to see the animated [series] come to life.”

Gargoyles aired 78 episodes over three seasons between 1994 and 1997, with an 11-issue Marvel Comics series taking flight in 1995. The story of the Manhattan Clan continued as recently as 2022 in a new Dynamite comic series penned by the TV show’s co-creator and producer, Greg Weisman, but Dauberman “can’t get into specifics” about whether the live-action version is adapting any particular story.

“I think Disney would kill me. I am such a fan of the show and there is so much good in it,” says Dauberman, a screenwriter who has adapted the works of author Stephen King (the It films and 2024’s ‘Salem’s Lot remake) and PlayStation’s Until Dawn video game into a feature film.

Whether it’s adapting Stephen King, a horror video game, or an animated series such as Gargoyles, Dauberman says, “[In] one, you have to invent stuff whole cloth and the other you don’t. I will say that if you are a fan of the show, you will be very happy with how I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel with that one.”

Either focus entirely on the past leading up to them turning to stone.

Focus primarily on the present with them re-awakening.

Or do half/half.

They dont need to do a big revision

They need to scrap the series and make it a movie!
