Disney's live-action "Mulan"

Oh that sucks. Hopefully the VOD numbers are good enough to warrant the Black Widow release on Disney+

I don’t know why WB keeps pushing their movies back 1 or 2 months at a time. As if things will get magically better in a matter of weeks.
I think it's to keep it constantly in the spotlight and build anticipation. Universal pushed FF over a year after the initial date. And while they can sit pretty not scrambling for further delays, it's completely gone from everybody's mind right now. It remains to be seen if the marketing ramp up 1-2 months before release can get the hype back.

You see, I don’t think it needs to be on everyone’s mind all the time this early on. Once we’re closer to the May date, they’ll start their marketing push and then it will be on everyone’s mind again. Who knows where we’ll be by then with the vaccine...

Yeah Disney really counted on the Chinise market initially. Any info on how it did on PVOD in terms of actual profit?

I'm not one to cheer on a films demise, but this is exactly the bitter dose of medicine that Disney needed to take. Not just as a reality check to their lack of creativity, but also to the types of films they are making and who they are making them for.

They will say they didnt know, but yes this should be a wake up call for doing business with ccp. Not worth it and you look like scum. Government will hopefully be hitting companies hard in the future. Arrests made at American universtities already, Hollywood in the bag, trillion dollar tech beholdent to ccp expansion. Netflix making gross pedo content. Morality is in the toilet.

Let’s be honest...any other studio would have done the same thing. WB released Tenet in the middle of a pandemic. It’s all about the all mighty dollar for ANY business.

Agreed. Deep down they might not like the way things are being done in China but they have to work with them since they're the biggest market

What's funny is that Iron man 3 was another example of China just not caring about being pampered to.

You’re absolutely right. Beijing Bob got what he deserved.

It is kinda hilarious to think that Tenet will make more money in China than this. :funny:

But in all seriousness, I really hope the company actually learns from this. Their live action remakes have been soulless endeavours from day one, and their focus on recycling their own stuff was eventually going to comeback to haunt them. We don’t know what would have happened without the virus, but if the reception from China is any indication it would have failed one way or another, at least over there. The reality is Western and Eastern audiences have different tastes, and this misguided desire to please both ended up pleasing no-one. Disney, and really Hollywood in general, need to start working out which audience they want to please, because you’ll never satisfy both.
