Action-Adventure Disney's Zorro and the New World Zorro

Thanks!

So apparently the Marvel comic Zorro series coincided with the New World Zorro TV show. Anyone know if it's an adaptation of that series?
Also is it any good? Recommended?
I doubt it's been collected, are the individual issues worth tracking down?
300px-Zorro_Vol_1_7.jpg
Any Zorro - Wolverine x-overs?

I only have one issue.(I don't think it lasted very long.:csad:) I'll have to dig it up someday.I could be mistaken, but I think the story involved Zorro looking after an ill Victoria.

I just bought this one a few days ago,It collects all 5 parts of a mini comic series and it's awesome,Diego De La Vega is married and retired in his 60's and returns as Zorro with team up help from Lone Ranger

Just read that the Columbia reboot is going to be "dark, gritty and realistic". Not sure if I like that... It could be very good, but I think Zorro movies should be fun, like the Banderas stuff. I'm afraid that they'll try to make Zorro into a Batman-clone.

Mexican vendor: "Come on, Garcia! I have kids to feed..."

Sargeant Garcia: "What's the matter, baboso? Don't they like tortillas? Hawhaw!"

Zorro: "Stop right there, senor fatass!"

Garcia: "Who the @&#* are you? The devil?"

Zorro: "No, I'm not the devil...but when you see him, you can tell him he's next!"

Garcia: "What? Noooo!"

(Zorro stabs Garcia through the throat and cuts a Z in his dead body. Then he returns to his Zorro-cave where he meets "Bernadette", a blind indian woman. He tells how he slaughtered Garcia)

Bernadette: "Was it really necessary to murder the fat sergeant?"

Zorro: "It's time to make all the rich and corrupt pigs pay for what they do to people like us...people like my father and mother! Yes...I still remember the day when that rich, white guy murdered them in cold blood. My father...a poor farmer, married to a gypsy woman. It's the same man who ripped out your eyes! Senor Richard Whiteman..."

But I'll just have to wait and see!:woot:

I

(Anyone remember the Zorro toys from the 90's? I had three of them: barbed wire Zorro, sword fighting Zorro and the one that threw daggers. I remember how unbelievably cool that was as a kid...he drew a knife from his back and threw it:wow:)
Cold Steel...!:awesome:

Those were fun, and they gave him a bit of a rogues gallery too.
Like Machete based on a classic Don McGregor created character. I think El diablo some old guy and some Calveras guy.

Speaking of Zorro toys...
Here's an old Disney era Zorro action figure... only 7K$:wow: - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Palitoy-Meg...nFigures_ActionFigures_JN&hash=item27ece57712

At first I thought $700.00 that's crazy Who would pay for that!! but it's actually 7,000.00 WTF$

Cool Box Art!

Zorro and Wolverine:hehe:
:woot: LOL see above^ It could happen.
How old is Old man Logan anyway? Could he have passed through Old California?
To even the odds, give Zorro a supernatural forged sword, and for the healing factor from his shaman Grandmother Whiteowl; some skinwalker/wererfox blood.

There's a Zorro vs Dracula story, but it's not from Marvel.
I read the Zorro Dracula one, I can't remember how it ends though? Maybe in an old mission church? Does he take him out with a supernatural sword?

Always thought they should have done a Zorro Werewolf/WererFox followup to that story, with a native american supernatural bent. Then the first rumors of the Disney Lone Ranger were that it would feature werewolves, I thought damn that was a great Zorro idea!
Of course they were inevitably dropped from that crazy script.

And the idea strangely showed up in Francavilla's Zorro homage...

Have any of you guys seen the novela, Zorro La Espada Y La Rosa (The Sword and The Rose)? It was a mini-series soap opera, and I use mini-series loosely because it was 112 episodes running at about 40 mins or so each. It was all spanish speaking, but there were english subtitles available. It was an interesting blend of the Banderas style and the Isabel Allende novel. I don't think it's available on dvd, but I do believe they can be found on youtube. If you can get past the soap opera tropes, and spanish soap tropes at that, I think Zorro fans can get into it.

I also watched La Espada y La Rosa as it aired. It was pretty bizarre but incredibly fun experience.
The over-the-top melodrama was really more about Esmeralda (La Rosa) guest staring some guy called Zorro.
But hey, who could blame them....Marlene Favela :hrt:
:awesome:
hTg9Phf.jpg

But really despite that, it's still one of the best and one of my favorite depictions of Zorro and his world.
The back-story is mostly taken from the Allende Novel, worked great, a character really a product of two worlds, a clash of identities the old world spanish/father and the new world Native American/mother living in one.
His father is torn by that reality of that clash of worlds and the ghost of his son's dead mother? At least I think she was a ghost? Don't know if the other characters could see her ? Except maybe the only him, the religious and insane could see her? Was she real? . Crazy stuff! Or maybe It's me?
Historical facts and geography were all over the place too. Esmeralda the descendant of a Gypsy Queen, trained by "Amazon" warriors, yeah those ones,. I almost died of LOLz and when she shows up in her own masked identity with a freakin crossbow - crazy fun:funny:
ep105d.jpg

The whole thing is surreal or magic-real whatever they call it.
From the Beyonce opening theme to the embarrassingly happy end!
Yeah I admit I enjoyed it. :O

LOL they seem to hold nothing back!
Ultimately it's a daily melodrama (unlike weekly shows,, these are produced one a day), about Zorro (la Espada) and Esmeralda (La Rosa) trying to get together, and some 100 episodes of events, insane plot twists, and incredible reasons to keep them apart.
You kinda have to surrender to that to get into it.

Wow, thanks for the link. I just bought it with my lunch money:yay:

Just kidding:woot:
:funny:
Now go play with the 7k figure through the dirt, pull his arms to see how far before they snap, put the sword in fire to see if it melts, and cut up the box to make his fort!:oldrazz:

Probably why this thing is apparently so valuable now. Back then who the heck saved/protected a toy and kept the freakin box.
I think these Palitoy were English licensing Mego...
zorrob10.jpg

Apparently Disney expanded on and kept the Zorro license going a lot longer in Europe than in the US. Don't know if it was even more popular there, with it's own life [like the Phantom]or it just went on longer?
I think the above one is English. And there a French/Spanish/Italian/latin American versions too.

I was surprised to see this in the style of Mego's secret Identity Bruce Wayne.
IqVtzuM.jpg
KkoC8yx.png

For Disney Zorro they did a secret identity Don Diego.
Straight from the Guy Williams version, even with guitar.

Rich McDollars: "Magda, I'm going to take a crap! Where the hell is my Action Comics #1?"

Magda McDollars: "Why, it's right where you left it, honey. In the shower!"

Rich McDollars: "Oh, right...anyway, leave my crapper mags alone."

I think Zorro was very popular in Argentina long after the show ended.

Not sure about my own country...but I do remember Zorro costumes, and plastic swords with a piece of chalk on the tip (to make Z's). Both the Disney series and the New World version aired at the same time during the 90s. I believe I watched the Disney version first, and then I switched to the channel that aired the New World series.

Yeah, after retirement Guy Catalano Williams had a second life in Argentina, and so did Disney's Zorro, which through him was kept alive. It kept airing there, and he would also tour promoting it, and I think may have created a type of traveling live Zorro rodeo/circus performance.

Which is still kept going to this day there -

LOL the chalk tipped Sword idea is great!
I think that was part of this "Action Set" - That time's equivalent of the Batman Cowl & Utility Belt.
Hat- Mask- Whip- Lariat- Pistol- Swords- Sheath & Knife- Awesome!
ZorroActionSetMarx.jpg

I like that Disney didn't shy away from giving him his pistol as per McCulley.
I hate that modern interpretation seem to retroactively apply Batman's no gun policy, which was never the case with Zorro.
Yes hes famously known for the sword, but he'd use a gun to shoot another gun out of someones hand, or to set up and force a sword duel. He was expert with it. He'd use every modern weapon available to him in his arsenal.
It'd be like portraying Musketeers not using muskets, just because they famously use swords.
They used both!
LOL I've ranted about this elsewhere, i guess I can't let it go it bugs me so much.

Above was the Action Set, I guess the rest of the costume Cape, Belt, Gloves came separate-
7o44r1.gif

This was the actual cloth costume, before the Ben Cooper style vinyl costume and full plastic classic Guy Williams grinning face mask...

Yeah, didn't he abandon his family for months or years to be in Argentina? He was a strange guy (:oldrazz:).

I don't think I had the Disney set, but I remember that the piece of chalk on my sword used to break off:hehe:

I have many good Zorro related memories...:woot: one time, I carved a Z on my parents toilet door. Well, it looked more like the number "2" (number two? Fitting...it's a toilet, after all). They painted the door white, but you can still see it. Zorro will never die!:o

I was enjoying both Dynamite's Zorro & Dynamite's Lone Ranger separately, so had crazy good anticipation for this cross-over, but was incredibly disappointed. There were things I loved about it, some of the themes, the writing and art were all great!
But the main premise pissed me off to no end.

Where did they get that Zorro refused to carry a gun? That has never been the case, they just made it up for this lame character they created and called "Zorro". ... and then killed him!

They have him ridiculously refuse to use a gun and walk into a gun fight, this is a guy with the means to the most advanced weapons of his time as part of his arsenal.
As per McCulley, Fairbanks, Powers, Disney/Guy Williams/Alex Toth - The most iconic! All had him use a gun.
Yet Dynamite has him not only take a stance he never did, but he takes it only to suck at it.
They just poorly wanted to retrofit Batman's stance onto Zorro, and imply he would stupidly get himself killed because of it.
Way to take a giant dump on a character so they can take a stance , the character never did.

Zorro at San Luis Rey

If you ever visit the missions in Cali. check out San Luis Rey it was often used in the Disney Zorro series.
What's great it still pretty much stands as was.

Interesting. I don't believe Zorro carries a gun. But if it were at his disposal and the need was there, I believe he would (and has) used it.

Sure not all, and always, but by which interpretation do you go by?
Most of the classic iconic versions had him use a gun (and merchandised with one), including his creators.

Also for Disney fans, a little harder to get to than the Mission, is the Lair of the Fox. Tornado's cave (among many more western movie locations) at the Iverson Movie Ranch in Chatsworth, Calif.
