DmC: Devil May Cry

Over the course of the game, does Devil Trigger ever evolve into something more than just looking human with white hair...like say you actually take on a demon form? (no spoilers)

The DT stays exactly the same throughout the whole game. You never get a true demon form

.

If i wasnt sold on this game before, i am now. Was never a fan of that demon form.

I loved the Devil May Cry series from the beginning and because of that it sounds like I should hate what I am seeing from this new game. Honestly, though, I'm pretty excited. Love the gameplay where there is a demon world just underneath the illusion of the regular world. Love the way that that world stretches out. Love how there is a devil trigger and an "angel trigger" (saw that in a demo). Love that it is a modern world because the old games had a old-fashioned European village feel to the levels.

After listening to Vic's Basement pod cast the Head producer stated that there was a plan to make a 5th devil may cry after 4. But they changed their minds saying it'll be like coming after a party has started and it's near it's end and they went with ninja theory cause they like their style the most other had been screened before them and came back to ninja theory. They had the lead designer of 2, 3 and 4 over see what ninja theory wanted to do design wise and he told them to change the look of Dante to what they wanted and told them to keep going while he observed that he liked what he saw. The lead designer told them how Dante should act and they took it from there.

No demonic form for DT is one of the express reasons I will never play this game. White hair? A red coat? How about no?

Well in 4 he didn't change that much he still looked pretty much like him self. well there were stages to the DT though. I'm guessing the reason he won't have a demon form is cause he's a nefiliem. (spelling) they don't change that much.

I did say there were stages like 3 up gradewise though like useing DT with the pistols Ebony and ivory. depends on how far you went. but I do remember that final form. And he stills red and black. with the usual hair we all know.

Or because it just looks lame? Either way, hip hip hooray for the omission.

Ign gave the PS3 an 8.5 which is pretty damn solid. Better score then they gave for 2 but not 1,3 and 4.

Seems it got knocked down for the game being short, no lock, camera problems and some fram rate issues. Otherwise all sounds good. Glad the combat is getting the attention.

Guess the X box is superior with the issue since the PS3 has always had problems with the Unreal 3 engine. So framrate drops happen often in the PS3 allegedly. :cmad:

Edit: IGN Xbox score was a 8.9! They couldnt have just gave it a 9 eh?

I wonder why NT didnt make sure the PS3 was as problem free since they had history with it. Thats some ********. Bayonetta all over again.

I wont be getting this until I beat the games in the HD collection and DMC1 is still hard as hell for me. I think I just may change the setting to easy bc Normal is giving me trouble

A 10 hours story mode is fine by me. I usually take more, since sometimes I just keep analysing the environment for goods and even the horizon. I won't stop at just one difficulty setting either.

I'm glad the game is getting really good reviews.

I'd recommend playing DmC first before going after the other ones hardcore, if you can...the control scheme is different enough that if you play the previous ones too much then jump to DmC it'll be a hard transition. The reason being:

there's no Lock-on in DmC and you use it constantly in the previous DMC titles. I did a marathon of DMC games before 4 came out and my right index finger started aching by the middle of 3...and that's after several days/weeks of playing for a few hours straight each day...no joke i though i might have gotten arthritis in it (which i didn't...it was just a bit achy for a few days). Not to mention the use of the shifters for using demon/angel weapons in DmC, there's no set up like that in any of the previous games.

So my recommendation: play DmC first if you can...either that or just try to not get super comfortable with the controls of the originals too much before you get into DmC.

So, does DMC really take place in an alternate reality? If so, is that something the Devs just said to appease the old-school Fans, or is it actually mentioned in the game and part of the story?

I already own the collection and DmC is $60. By the time I make my way through those games, this will likely be under $30 somewhere. I know I don't have to play the other games first but I want to see the series in its entirety from the beginning and be able to draw my own comparisons to the reboot when I do play

Just make sure to never touch DMC2.

Haha I haven't played it since it came out but I don't recall it being bad as everyone makes it to be. But then again I didn't even bother to touch 3 after it, so maybe it was the reason why.

Im fairly certain this is designed to be a reboot, they just said the alt reality stuff to shut the fanboys up. IGN uses the word "rebirth" for the series.

Eh I just think its over kill, prefer a more subtle hint to Dante's demon side.

Yes, because making Dante a Super Saiyan is great. :o

I was never a fan of the post Devil May Cry 1 demon forms, but I always liked the idea of it being a form of armor. Nelo Angelo is the man.

According to Sessler Dante is unbearable, the writing and story are downright horrible, and the more the game goes on the more tedious and and not fun the combat becomes. Great.

I caught that earlier. Though to be fair, couldn't we have already guessed that new Dante is a prat from the trailers and the demo? There was enough there to preview how juvenile this new Dante and the story would have been.

By the way. If you want to get a youtube link to work with the [YT] code you should only put in the part of the link that comes after the =.

I read that Sparda got nerfed, is it true? I know he didn't really appear in the last 4 games, aside from pictures, stories of his heroics and an unlockable alt. But he was supposed to be that giant badass, who took on the armies of hell himself.

Now in DMC, he's apparently Mundu's b**ch.

Thank you! I have been trying to figure that out for the longest time.

On the former, I agree. But there were many saying that you can't really tell from demos and trailers and defending the clearly insipid writing and character choices.

What really worries me is the gameplay. Sounds mechanical later in the game with the weapons.

Well it's an entirely different Devil May Cry, so it's bound to have both detractors and defenders. I've only tried the demo, so I can only speak to that, but I thought the fighting was fairly awkward.

The lack of a lock on can be both freeing and restricting at the same time. You're not trapped on a single enemy, but it can be awkward at times trying to pin down a single enemy at times. Plus I think tying up the various weapon mode under the trigger buttons will trip up a lot of players here and there, it's a bit cumbersome to use (imo).

Though it's probably best to see for yourself. I say rent it and see what you think about it.

Well it's hard to say since we never really saw him, but it seems they've changed the entire fiction from top to bottom, so it wouldn't be out of the question to question what his place is in the new game.
