Do You Believe In Evolution?

So what ya think is gonna occur on December 21st 2012?

And neither did the person who wrote the book of genesis

Whatever you "know", it's faulty at best. Creation was the beginning of everything, so the Mesopotamians couldn't have known about the Fall or the Flood before they happened. They didn't exist yet.

I think you might have reached a new low.

WTF? They have carvings of Mesopotamians talking about a great flood and it is a story about one man that built a boat and survived it:huh: That dates before Christianity.

Whenever people start talking about carbon or radiometric dating, I immediately start filtering such things out. When will people realize that most of our current methods for the dating of ancient objects are poorly-educated guesses at best, and outright blasphemy at worst?

We have absolutely no way of 100% conclusively proving how old a fossilized object definitely is. Such a method simply doesn't exist. We can guess and theorize all we want, but in the end we still don't know for certain.

As for why the Mesopotamians have flood legends, I'd say this is a likely reason...there was a flood. Many cultures all across the world have similar tales to that of Noah and the Ark, probably because they're all based in the same true event. However, any date which supposedly predates Biblical truth is a man-made fiction...and considering the amount of people on Earth who would love to destroy everything Christianity stands for, it's not much of a stretch to think they'd intentionally make false "scientific" claims.

Noah was commanded by God to build a boat, and in it he placed himself, his wife, his sons, their wives, and anywhere from 2 to 7 pairs of various animal kinds (not species). They were all inside the Ark for nearly a year, at which point the planet was repopulated from Noah's family line.

How do we know when the Bible was written then if we cannot go by Scientific analysis. Last time I checked, there wasn't a print date in the slip cover:huh:

You desperately need to do some ACTUAL research... :o

We're not going to continue to do it for you.

I've previously mentioned that various traditions are man-made, rather than being found in Scripture. I've also noted the symbolism of certain verses (most of them in Daniel and Revelation). That being said, I stand by my conviction that although men transcribed it, the teachings and lessons of the Bible came directly from God...all of them. I don't pretend to know all the "hows" or "whys", but my failure to understand the whole thing doesn't automatically mean it's false. God promised to protect His Word, not mankind's collective opinions about it.

i wonder how it feels to live your life so entrenched in a book of fiction written by imperfect men.

Faith would definitely help matters. Scripture is described numerous times by many people as God's Word. So, you come to a choice: either it is, or it isn't. There's no room for "middle ground" on this. Either the Bible is the inerrant word of the living God to the people of the Earth, passed down from Heaven through men, or it's not. Those who attempt to trash or blaspheme Scripture are essentially calling God a liar.

has it ever occurred to you that faith is simply a word to defend yourself when you have no evidence, no logical reasoning and no rational thought?

As a Christian, I find that to be highly offensive. Faith only comes through the questioning of things, people, and events related to God, and the outcome of that questioning. It's called faith, not blind faith. Having people question your faith or at some points have some doubts are good, because at the end of the day it strengthens your faith.

Well, that settles it.

Moviefan doesn't believe the Mesopotamians existed. Evolution wins by logical default.

No there not, there calling it metaphorical truth. Myths have truth, without being literally so. For some reason you seem to not even be able to grasp or comprehend this idea. The story of Noah's Ark is nothing more then a story of "washing away" sins, as well as a dual creation myth, telling of redemption in the eyes of god and how we can prevail through the evils in the world and "sail on" to find new ground. It's about the hope for peace and rebirth. It doesn't have to be historical fact in order for it to still be true.

While Jesus did encourage His disciples to question what they heard from religious scholars and such, Scripture precisely says that "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." So, faith ultimately is the result of reading, hearing, and trusting in the Bible. Questions can be good, but too many of them can be destructive if not done appropriately.

You know, I have an uncle who was a preacher that I've had some conversations with on this same topic. Dinosaurs and all that. Fact of the matter, he pointed out some bible passages which describe that for God, days are not what we perceive as days, a day for God, could be a millions years, there is no set number. I really wish I knew the passages, I may have to call and ask him. So, he said there is some wiggle room there for the existence of dinosaurs and the like.

Way to contradict yourself there.

So the Mesopotamians never existed? Then who wrote the epic of Gilgamesh? I suppose the epic of gilgamesh, and all evidence for their existence was planted by us dangerous atheists to try and undermine christianity... planted pre emptively thousands of years before the old testiment was written.... How devious of us.......
How old do you think the world is again?
Just wondering how many other fake civilisations there must have been...
We're the egyptians real? Because, if like most young earther's you claim the world is around 4000 years old then a good couple of thousand years of Ancient Egyptptian civilisation must have been pretend.... i wonder how they pretended to build pyramids for a king who lived 750years before the world existed? hmmm?

Noah was commanded by God to build a boat, and in it he placed himself, his wife, his sons, their wives, and anywhere from 2 to 7 pairs of various animal kinds (not species). They were all inside the Ark for nearly a year, at which point the planet was repopulated from Noah's family line.

What's all this talk of "Kinds"how many kinds were there on Noah's ark? and how long ago was that in your opinion? Because to me it seems that the vast diversity of complex organisms we have on this planet today could not possibly have all adapted to specific niches in a short period of time. are all dogs from one kind? what about all birds? To me it just seems like a last ditch attempt to convince yourself that what was probably meant to be a metaphor, was in fact truth. It's obvious that a boat that size could not fit 2 of each species of animal (like the bible says) luckily, you guys heard of this thing called "evolution" which although you don't believe in it you're quite happy to pervert it into an explanation for how Noah could have repopulated the earth with just a few species of animals.

Unfortunately for you, you didn't give your self an adequate time period for evolution to take place - due to your insistance on a young earth theory...
The noah's ark story is ridiculous, it only makes sence if you ignore most of the species on earth at that time, and don't take into account any food for the animals (or how to store it) for example, An Adult Lion eats around 150 pounds of meat per week - that's over 3 metric tonnes per year - of fresh meat... for one Lion. A lactating cow eats around 100 pounds of food a day (or 50 pounds of dry food with alot of water) even at dry food that's over 8 tonnes of food for a year... per cow! It's a nice story, but it's only a story - it couldn't have happened.

Well, that settles it.

Moviefan doesn't believe the Mesopotamians existed. Evolution wins by logical default.
He loses because he says carbon dating as well as historical evidence is faulty but faith in the Bible is the true test of how old something really is.:whatever: He says the Mesopotamians must have been after the time of Noah and the Bible flood but how does he prove this? Sorry but this has gotten to a point of stupidity beyond comprehension in this thread...I'm out:o
