The other day I was writing an email and I wanted to use both the  smiley and the :down. I was distraught that my proper attitude would not be successfully conveyed. :csad:

Anyone else run into these problems?

I can function just fine in society without the use of "smileys", you should get out more Ronny.

yeah, the other day I was all Like :cmad: but then there was no emoticon to represent it so I was like :csad: and then i thought " why do I want emoticons in real life?" so I was like  and then like :cmad: again.
I went out to think for a sec so I put on some sunglasses and I was like :word:
and then I thought " this is really stupid " so I was like :o
but the one I couldn't live without is:

:ninja:

because half my friends are ninjas.

In IM's it happens all the time. My friends often ask what  means.

I sometimes have difficulty expressing myself with the available smileys in the Hype. I STILL want a Happy but Confused smiley, and a "what, sweet innocent ol' me" simley (angel halo over smiley with a wicked smile)

Guess what my answer is.

I can understand not wanting to use smilies, but I've never understood your refusal to quote previous posts.

Yes..I was on another forum and there was no :wow: :whatever: :down

It's so HARD! :csad:

Quoting something means that what I'm quoting is important enough for me to restate it...nothing anyone here has to say is THAT important.

But if it's important enough to respond to in the first place, isn't it important enough to clarify? I've personally seen you post responses without quoting the original post and due to the large space between the original and your response, your post was apparently ignored or not made clear to the first poster.

I mean if you don't care, that's fine -- I just didn't know what kind of statement you were trying to send by choosing to do that.

Society, sure. I have a face in society. The internet's a different story.

Clarifying takes more energy than responding to.

Not really. I use them mostly for comedic effect on the boards but they're not totally necessary.

I do it from time to time really just to appear cool :word: but I really have no problem expressing whats in my  It just a matter of not becoming dependent on them and writing in a matter where the person you are responding to know whether you are joking :woot: or being sarcastic :whatever:

Any way I'm glad that I don't have that problem of overusage :oldrazz: and I know how to articulate my feelings.

Well, thats all for now. I have to go feed my :dew:

You know you can use these smilies in emails, right? That is unless the recipient can only view plain text.

Yeah, i want a sarcasm smiley.

A friend of mine and I change the font color to green when we want something to be taken as sarcastic. It works really well.
