Do you like Superman: The Movie and/or Superman 2 because of nostalgia?

I like them partly because of nostalgia, but they are good films that hold up.

Yeah, nostalgia does help some, but it really is a good movie in its own right, plus I don't see why superhero movies have to be serious all the time. I mean, would grittiness and fewer jokes improve Back to the Future or Ghostbusters? I used to do it too, complain about superhero movies being too campy, but anymore, I just don't care that much. Superheroes don't have to be so realistic that I can believe everything happening is physically possible and villains don't all have to be as chilling as Hannibal Lecter(though I'm perfectly fine with creepy villains too).

They struck the best balance of Superman as a character. I mean, when I look back at them, the performances and scripting still hold up. The FX, not so much. But I'd rather watch a classic movie like that any day of the week as opposed to modern movies that are FX heavy and have zero story or emotional content. Therefore, nostalgia doesn't really have much in terms of swaying me.
