Do you think dogs will evolve to speak one day?

They are beloved animals, as important to some pet owners as people.

It won't happen in our lifetime, but one day?

Think about how close the relationship is to humans (especially in US)

I'm assuming this is just a joke thread, so I'll play along.

No, it won't happen. And who would want it to?

There's enough smartass people in this world that never know when to shut their pie holes. Do we really want to hear the ramblings of smartass dogs too?

Also, if they can evolve to the point of being able to speak, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume they're as smart as we are and therefore in a position to defeat us and inherit the Earth. They'll want revenge for all the leashing and infantilizing "Good boy!" talk and deal us a terrible punishment.

Definitely do not want. I like the regular hapless dogs of today just fine.

Someone is high as f**k in their room right now staring at their dog. That someone is the OP.

Not without massive genetic engineering. They don't have the proper vocal chords to approximate human speech and evolving it on their own is unlikely, never mind the higher brian functions for speaking back a human language.

But we had the proper environment, evolving mental capacity and body structure to eventually change that. Dogs don't really have any of that. Dogs/Wolves can make a very large variety of noises meaning a large amount of different things but unless we get that thing from UP for our dogs we won't be hearing them talk. :p

Humans and everything else came from RNA most likely. The first self-replicating molecule was likely RNA (ribose nucleic acid).

No.

Although someday someone will go all Island of Doctor Moreau to terrifying results.

It makes sense; he wants a talking dog to help him solve mysteries.

Inspired by MrsKent26's answer:

Yes they will.
Not only that, they will join us on internet message boards to discuss Aquaman meets Rom Space Knight the movie, directed by a student in Uwe Boll's school of direction, and it will earn 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wait...they don't now? Mine talking to me isn't normal? :csad:

97% if a Marvel film ;)

None of you seem to realize that there are already dogs that can talk RIGHT NOW, rendering this question kind of pointless. I'm surprised if you've never seen a single video of this, as I've seen several. Go look it up. Some dogs can say up to 20 different words, and most dog owners know that a dog is capable of recognizing and understanding more than that.
If humans were to dedicate a few hundred years to selectively breeding the best 'speakers' then yes it's entirely possible that we could produce a breed of talking dog. It's no more ridiculous than talking parrots.

JJJ got the other dog talking thread closed by mocking a mod.

GOOD JOB JJJ! :argh:
