Do You Think The Black Panther Is Being Over-hyped??

So Reed & Sue are still gone? Just checking.
I'm not following FF until the original team is back.

Yep. Hudlin recently put some very out-of-character racist jabs in Doom's mouth. It was in a recent issue of Panther.
The idiots in charge of Marvel are being very poor stewards of the House that Stan & jack built.

Don't forget Martin...It was all his idea in the first place...

VICTORVONDOOMX,

It absolutely isn't ridiculous.

Yes, it is. For some reason you think just because Doom created something, nobody else can equal or modify his creations. Which would be silly to think, seeing that you have somebody like Forge for example, whose mutant ability allows him to recreate almost any technology he see.

I have a 150+ IQ but that certainly doesn't mean I can automatically grasp the physics calculations of Steven Hawking on an equitable level.

You might want to read more on Black Panther. While T'Challa is not Reed or Victor, he is still in the top 10.

Moreover, Doom would build in safeguards against reverse engineering

Given time, safeguards can be overridden.

and where the heck would T'challa have gotten the equipment to reverse engineer anyway?

No disrespect but I think you’re over thinking a minor detail

None taken. However so are you: Again, top 10 DOES NOT equal #1 or #2. It's just that simple.

1) Doom thinks he's a god, from a line of Dooms, I don't see why he wouldn't think his race is superior to others. He obviously thinks his family is superior to all others. Are you saying that Doom considers all of humanity equals? Okaaaay.

2) I'm saddened that just the presence of new members pushes people form the Fantastic Four, regardless of the quality. And I'm sure that these same fans have the exact same reaction when Namorita, Lyja, Crystal, Medusa, She-Hulk and others substitute in for memebers of the FF. Since those women are not "The original team." I know for sure that such negative reactions aren't solely for T'challa and Ororo.

You're saying that Doom is smarter than T'Challa. We all agree. We're saying that the device in question wasn't too hard for T'Challa. An example:

3) Just because Doom made a device doesn't mean it's something that only he and Reed can understand. If Doom makes a see-saw, it doesn't mean that I can't understand how to reverse engineer the see-saw just because DOOM made it. Doom CAN make something too hard for T'Challa, but it's not a see-saw, and apparently, it's not a Silver-Surfer-Power-Drainer either.

Doom making doesn't automaticaly make it too hard.

4) The Panther has yet to be overhyped... he's always been as capable as he's just now being shown to be. His technology has always been jaw-dropping and his skills have always been on par with the best of the best. Like someone said, he's sort of a batman analogue, except bigger, with more tech, money and resources. He's been like this for a looong time. I'm glad people are finally able to publish this, instead of downplaying him for no good reason.

But I will agree, if he's wrestling Surfer without explanation, then we need some explanation. Or an editor retraction.

I'm following the book just because I want to know what Reed and Sue are doing, but these recent arc with BP and Storm has been so lame. I don't like T'Challa and Storm is the new Wolverine, she's on every freaking book right now (ok, just Black Panther, FF and Uncanny).

I want Sue and Reed back!

Is Panther the leader of the team?
Yeah, I don't know if they specifically said that, but Ben and Johhny kept their relative positions on the team (powerhouse and comic-relief), Panther is the brains of the team and Storm provides the common sense. Anyways, I still want Reed and Sue back.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. Storm has been on the backburner in Marvel U for a good 2 years now. It's only recently that she's gotten some focus through these books. I'm glad to see the Weather Goddess back to the fore.

Me either.....actually when the MK was stopped I haven't read much since then. But I'll start up again its the Fantastic Four again.

Correct. Iron Man made a similar device in the past, which he's used to defeat the Surfer on two seperate occasions.

I agree. And i dont get that mentality. The FF has always been about family, including "extended family", going all the way back to the Lee & Kirby era...furthermore; Reed & Sue are still appearing in the book each month, so i dont see why it's such a big deal, regardless...

I would just like to say for the record as one of the Hype's resident JMS HATERS that I really enjoyed the latest issue. Reeds characterization, T'challa's regalness, everything except making Storm vain (JMS' own vanity probably sees Storm -who should be portrayed as the Panther's regal equal- acting that way as trivial.... when I see someone acting that way, I know they need help!) and worried about what others think. Not cute, not humorous and certainly not worthy to name the issue!

I hope they explain how The Wizard knew Reed and Sue were on Titan...otherwise; excellent issue.

Excellent point, Cap!

With that first close up with the purple eyes, I was kinda hoping for a return of... was he called the Brute? The Reed from Counter Earth around FF 176-189 somewhere. I like twisted other-worldly Reeds as villians, like when DeFalco was writing and like in Civil War (couldn't help myself!).

It is.
I'm glad to see that others found the Panther/Surfer sequence as nutty as I did. The Panther subduing the freakin' Silver Surfer???

This comic is officially off the tracks.
Again.

After 30+ years, this may be where I finally stop buying it.

Hahahahahahahahahha

That was hilarious. Clearly McDuffie was up late that night. Now that was a hack job if I ever saw one.

The Silver Surfer can't break out of Black Panther's grip because of a wrestling hold, Nonsense.

I really could not believe McDuffy wrote that.

Now, I'm not saying the Handbooks are always right with intelligence. There are certain characters that the handbook should have as geniuses that they don't (The Jackal and Kang The Conqueror come to mind; both listed as gifted.) but I should mention that Stark is one of the only Earthborn 616characters to recieve the super genius rating. These characters are:

Bruce Banner
Nathaniel Essex
Henry Pym
The Moleman
Nathaniel Richards
Reed Richards
Tony Stark
Victor Von Doom

that list does not include T'Challa (nor does it include Xavier, McCoy, Magneto, and others that are lumped into the super genius category on the boards.)

I wonder if Black Panther took his lunch money and gave him a cosmic wedgy.

I want Reed and Sue BACK, not just mention of them here or there.....

Aloha,
The first Marvel Bio of the Black Panther stated that
T'Challa was educated at several prestigious universities in the U.S. and Europe, earning advanced degrees in physics (Ph.D.), engineering, economics, political science and psychology. To ascend to the throne of Wakanda he was required to pass two tests: defeat six of Wakanda's greatest warriors in unarmed combat, and obtain the secret heart-shaped herb ( Fantastic Four Unlimited #1) that grants the country's chieftains their powers.Successfully carrying out the dual challenge, T'Challa donned the ceremonial garb of the Black Panther, totem of the Wakandan people.
Under T'Challa, Wakanda has become one of the wealthiest and most technologically advanced nations on the planet, fulfilling the dreams of his father.

Despite his brilliance, Latveria under Von Doom is not recognized as a highly advanced nation. As the sovereign ruler of Wakanda, T'Challa has the capacity to destabilize the world economy and can BUY controlling shares in Stark Industries. That's not hype, that already happened YEARS AGO. BP was written with an incredible POTENTIAL that is now being exploited by the powers -that -be at Marvel. Let's not forget that BP has had several series, graphic novels and minis series over the past 30 years. It's not like Marvel never tried to push this character. Like so many things, TIMING is everything. It appears to be a very good time to promote BP as a 1st Tier Super Hero. As stated before- T'Challa grabbing SS in an arm lock is ultimately the error of the EDITOR.Even if the writer wrote it, the editors job was to catch such a glaring error.Rather than fix the error, if you check out the latest Marvel Web site on T'Challa his current bio states Powers T'Challa's senses and physical attributes have been enhanced to SUPERHUMAN LEVELS by the heart shaped herb". So while, I will always say that T'Challa should not have been able to hold SS for one milli second-IN THE PAST. He is officially Super NOW!

Who said T'challa invented it? He more than likely swiped the intel from Stark, or Reed Richards .

Plus: he has scientists of his own in Wakanda who are not known to the general Marvel Universe.

Well from what I'm reading here, they are part of the 4, they are doing what they do as the Fantastic Four. Thats what I'm talking about......

NOW, if they are back to being The Fantastic Four, not the Fantastic Two with some guests........then cool...........I'll start reading again. But what I'm reading here is not the Fantastic Four, IMO.

<SIGH> :whatever: Once again:

They. Are. Back.

In fact; They never left. They are in every issue.

'nuff said?

Aloha,
'Since the titile of this thread is "Do You Think The Black Panther Is Being Over-hyped??" I'm a little confused with the conversation. BP 's origin comes straight from the pages of the Fantastic Four. He will always be a part of FF history and the FF family as well as Avengers history and family. Panther,She Hulk and Spidey are on a very short list of heros who have been members of both groups. Every Bio of Black Panther lists him as a Genius.Reed Richards is the leader of a four member group, Tony Stark is the head of a multi-billion dollar corporation and SHIELD, T'Challa is the ruler of one of the most technologically advanced and wealthiest nations on Earth. Gee, you think he's qualified to head the FF for a few weeks?Reed Richards and Sue didn't hesitate to invite Storm and BP to fill in for a while. Wonder why some FF fans have such a hard time with it?
