Superman Returns Do you want a sequel, or start over from scratch?

no one will forget s:tm but they most certainly have forgotten superman returns. the studios and creative teams take way to many liberties with characters. s:tm was good for the late 70s, but that won't and didn't work for superman returns. singer could have done so much with superman returns but he chose to remake s:tm as a sequel. the best adaption in my opinion is the origin from the animated series.

don't worry guys, i will direct the restart for the next franchise. MARK MY WORDS. I actually see it happening

Vague history my ass. Superman Returns was 100% the new Superman III

No it's a remake/sequel like batman forever.

It tried to have it both ways

No, Superman Returns was more of a sequel to Superman II than Batman Forever was to Batman Returns.

Batman Forever was more of a vague history than Superman Returns.

Superman Returns uses the same style of the first two Superman movies and mentions events of the second Superman movie such as Lex being at the Fortress of Solitude and Clark having sex with Lois and Lois not remembering that Clark is Superman.

Batman Forever had a completely different style and practically had no mentions of the past movies except for having the same Alfred and Gordon and having Gordon still acting like an idiot.

 uh uh... wwwwwwwwwwwwrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggg

does kryptonite work like it did in STM? why's the movie so dark? Why the frell does clark live at the daily planet? As we can see with Lex's new Henchwoman who somehow has the spirit of ms teschmacher trapped inside her, this is a remake/sequel sort of thing that tries to have it both ways establishing a new world based on the old burton/donner one or some weird idea like that. We get the same or similar music, we get a similar love interest chase mirridian or whatever her name is, she's like that one from batman, and we get the same sort of villain as the Joker only this time they're split in two and called ridder and two face, and on top of it all, a sidekick is added. And Nipples.

Returns is similar and follows STM prettymuch word for word while superman's acting differently than he did in STM. Forever sort of tries to remake the original batman by looking back into his past a different way than the original did, but also stay in a vague continuity I guess.

I see the similarities, man...

This time batman's a different actor but certain actors return in this new world. In flashbacks we see young bruce like young clark fall through something and learn about their future, sort of. Clark falls through a roof and learns he can fly. Here bruce falls through a cave and meets a bunch of bats. Same sort of thing. I can't remember exactly but I think it changed a few things about the night his parents died that we don't see in Burton's batman. Anyway, it and Returns are vague sequels since they both deviate and sort of stay within the original film's continuity at the same time and boggle all our minds.

It also had a flashback of the young Joker shooting Bruce's parents and Meridian made a reference to Catwoman...but on the other hand Harvey turned white and Bruce definitely went through some changes.

A reboot would be nice, but I wouldn't mind if there was a sequel.

I'm giving whatever Singer has in mind for the sequel. But i'll never stop saying "get rid of the kid!" :cmad:

How about give a different studio to do a superman movie. I know its highly impossible but its the only way you guys can get a reboot.

lol diferent studio? WB is the one with their heads screwed on firmly nowadays and we want to forfeit this? wow.. thats reckless.

Sequel for me. This time, show us new villains and knock our socks off

And Batman forever<Superman Returns

Oh and- by the way that's NOT a fact, that's YOUR "opinion". Learn the difference. I think it's one of the best studios ever.

Apparently you haven't read that article about the studio. I think its on the front page.

Wasn't able to find THAT, but did find this (front page of what?- of this thread?- because there isn't one if that's the case):

BOM: Studio

Quality of films is up for debate. Personally, most of my favorite films come from WB. I hear 'talent' working for the WB to always have strong appraisal for the company, alot more in comparison to other studios. Top five box office studio. Ranking below Sony, Buena Vista (I think that's Disney), 20th Century Fox, and Universal. Thus, it is up there in the top five box office wise.

^Don't forget spiderman 2> SR

Hmm personally, being that i prefer the more straight faced approach, SR beat it out, but Spiderman 2 is funny and has cool action.. its a good one too.

Thats not what theyre showing recently... replace that with fox... yikes.

You have your facts, i have mine.

Well, Batman Forever did hint at the Joker and Batman's murder of him as well.
So, it could kinda be like whatever hints we had in SR if you want to play it that way.

Well we do know Lex is on an island. So who knows what would happen to him from there.

I say wait a few years and start the whole thing over again. What Superman Returns did was screw it all up. It should have been a masterpiece and it ended up being a major disappointment.

I say restart the whole origin from the beginning. Use the current comics' origin and have it work that way. Obviously it's going to parallel Superman 1 because it's going to be an origin story and the story hasn't changed all that much, but I think it's necessary to just reboot the whole thing. It's gone way too far in the wrong direction to save at this point.

I'd still keep the music, though. That music is synonymous with Superman, it isn't even about the series of movies. To me, that music is Superman's theme. I'd do the same with the Danny Elfman score and the Batman Begins sequel.

You know, while I think the music from BB was awesome, it was still kind of neutral or somewhat generic as far as theme music goes so I think a variation of Elfman's score could work.

As far as Superman, I agree with you. WB F'ED UP BIG TIME! And they know it.

I would say restart and borrow heavy from Superman TAS and the use the source material since 1985 with an emphasis of the last five years including "Birthright."

Also I wouldn't start the new movie as a straight up origin story but have it open where Superman has been on the scene for about a year but neither him nor the world knows of his alien origins until some threat from Outer space arrives and exposes Clark's background. This would result in a identity complex and xenophobia for both the people of Metropolis and the rest of the world especially since the threat came from Krypton (Braniac -- borrowed from TAS.)

Agreed. His origin can be brought back through flashbacks. It doesn't have to be a "linear origin".

Posting the top comic adaptations doesn't really help SR, because Superman is the world's most recognized comic book hero. Spiderman probably wasn't in the top four until the debut of the movie. the X-Men were no where near close. Superman and Batman are two of the world's most recognizeable comic book superheroes.....the X-Men and Spiderman never were as popular as superman and batman prior to the movies...so i think that it is interesting...that SR has the Superman brand behind it and a gigantic budget...yet it placed 6th on your first list and fourth on your second list. I'm sure the the WB was using the same logic that I am using when they put all of these resources into this movie..I mean..Superman is the hero of all heroes...there is no reason he should be struggling like this @ the box office....unless...Singer screwed up the movie. I am a comicbook fan....and I went to see the movie just because it's superman..my brother who doesn't read comics @ all..went to see the movie..just because it's superman..and he hated it. a lot of people went to see this movie because they expected to see a kick ass movie...with all of the fancy technology and things we have today..why is it that SR was the best we could get from a Superman movie?

whether we get a reboot or a sequel...there are two things i definitely want:

1) something fresh, inventive and able to take advantage of today's technolody

2) definitely a new director
