World Doc Ock's Lair v2 - Part 1

^ Same, whenever I make it to a new comic shop that I don't typically visit I usually remember to look for those 2 Webspinners issues but I can never find them. I have every issue of that series besides those 2. :csad:

Cool Tumblr page, btw!

Thanks, guys. :)

BTW, fair warning: do NOT do a search for 'doctor octopus' or 'doc ock' on Tumblr. It seems that people are posting spoiler scans for 700. :cmad:

Me, I've been reading back through old Spidey issues with Ock in 'em, re-acquainting myself with the Tentacled Terror; after years of near-dormancy (with little spikes of interest as in during Ends of the Earth), my Ock-obsession's back in full swing (Spider-Man pun unintended).

Feels good, man. Feels good. :otto:

Merry Christmas, everyone. 2013 will be a BIG year for Doc Ock :otto:

Well... this should be a pretty interesting thread for the next year or so :D

This morning I read Amazing Spider-Man 700 and Avenging Spider-Man 15.1.

As a result, I have been in a state of giddy glee ALL DAY. Seriously, I keep breaking into manic little giggles. It's amusing the heck out of my husband. :)

(heeheeheehee)

I still have not read ASM #700 yet. Can't wait to.

2013 is the year of the Octopus :otto:

Do yourself a favor and be sure to read Avenging Spider-Man 15.1 AFTER you read ASM 700. It's a really excellent epilogue -- or prologue to Superior Spider-Man. :)

(Year of the Octopus inDEED. *GLEE*)

ASM #700 was one of the most controversial and glorious pieces of writing. This will go down in infamy. Some will hold it in the hall of bad fame, some in the good.

Either way, it's the most controversial Spidey story that's attracted the most attention since Gwen Stacy's death. Nobody was sending death threats to the writers for Sins Past or One More Day.

Though Gerry Conway did tell Dan Slott on Twitter that he was glad that Twitter didn't exist back when he killed off Gwen. :woot:

I'll bet! There'd have been a Conway roast.

If Superior Spider-Man sucks then the peeved off fans will really be justified in their complaints. We know it's all temporary. Peter will be back.

Ock must be the only Spidey villain to be the central villain for two anniversary issues; #600 and #700.

As great as GG is, I'm surprised Ock isn't Spidey's main adversary overall. Scientist vs. Scientist.

Oh! Well...that's fantastic! Actually that makes a lotta sense it's silly I didn't know that already.

Works for me

The magic of Tumblr -- click each panel to see 'em separately. Kinda like the poor man's "guided view" on digital comics. Kinda.

Anyway.

Been getting back into Marvel RP. New game, new Ock (though not Superior Spider-Ock, lol).

Also means new fanart. Uh. Such as it is.

(I may have been up waaaaaaaaaaay too late last night.)

I love Tumblr lol.

I think someone's forgetting The Burglar - AF 15 and ASM 200! :p

Ock was in ASM 500 as well.

So who read the first issue of Superior Spider-Man? I absolutely LOVED it. It was hysterically good.

Watching Ock adapt to Peter Parker's life, and essentially acting like Otto Octavius in Peter's body (which is who he is at the end of the day). The way he spoke down to the new Sinister Six as if they were rank amateurs who had the gall to call themselves that. Calling his Horizon co-workers dolts. The way he tried to impress MJ on their date by bragging about his scientific genius of tracking the new Sinister Six, and addressing her as "my dear" lol.

I won't spoil the ending because there's a bit of twist, but I'll just say it shows this "Superior" Spider-Man is still the nasty and evil Doc Ock at heart since
he was willing to kill Boomerang by punching him to death.

I was very excited and skeptical about this first issue before I read it, but Slott sold me on it. This is going to be so much fun while it lasts. Ock makes a fantastically interesting Peter Parker and Spider-Man. There won't be a dull moment.

I meant ASM anniversary issues :oldrazz:

Ock was in ASM 500 as well.

Yes, but not as the main villain.

One of my favorite bits in Superior Spider-Man #1:

"You--you saved me!"
"So it seems."
"I'm alive!"
"Yes, and I'm so glad I took the effort to preserve such a master of the self-evident."
"Wha?"

That, and I TOTALLY CALLED IT:

No matter how many times Ock may say he's putting his old self behind him, it bothers the heck out of him that anything awesome he does now will be credited to Peter Parker. Or Spider-Man. Not Otto Octavius or Doctor Octopus.

That bit in the Horizon lab, combined with the whole "I GET TO WIN" bit at the end was so very... VERY in-character. And realistic. The epiphany in ASM #700 was real. As was the one in Avenging SM #15.1. But people don't do a complete 180-degree turnaround at the drop of a hat.

I think Otto's desire to be a hero is sincere, even if it's for the wrong reasons. I like that he's actually effective -- his "Master Planner" methods are different from Peter's, but they do work. But the narcissism is still there, the anger issues, the ego issues, the rage, the selfishness... he's still Otto Octavius.

It's fun to be excited about comics again. :otto:
