Yeah, it is basically the comic equivalent of brainless popcorn fluff, which seems to be what Loeb is going for. I dropped it because it's built on a mystery and I found I didn't really care who the red Hulk is, and because seeing a Hulk fight an Abomination for the fiftieth time doesn't grab me. Thor fighting anyone, however, I'll be there for. :)
Come on Kain! That was Hulk and Reed by himself in a box. Who IS going to beat the Hulk in those conditions?

My argument was Reed with preptime and that includes the rest of the Fantastic Four.

See above.

:ff: :ff: :ff:
Wouldn't that not count as a "Reed vs. Hulk" fight, then? That's an FF vs. Hulk fight. That's like saying Captain America could beat Galactus... with the rest of the Marvel universe backing him up.

I'm currently enjoying hulk so much more than WWH it's scary. Probably because it's big guys just punching other big guys rather than alter physics with super punches.

Reed with minimal prep would own anyone, period. He's just that smart. But on his own, that hulk fight seems believable enough to work for me with those conditions.

Oh, yes the sentry sucks all forms of animals.....

...and probably swallows.

There's just not enough there for me in the current Hulk comic. It's simplistic to the point of boredom, and I guess big comic fights just don't hold the allure they once did for me unless I'm really into the character. Personally, I'd love to see a shift in the complete opposite direction, with a return to the professor Hulk and a mix of super-science and earth-shaking fisticuffs.

I'd like to see more of banner as the supergenius he is. I loved that What if planet hulk where he lands on the peaceful planet and you just have a banner vs. hulk back and forth. I'd like to see more of that as their personalities don't really mesh.

But barring that, which I really don't see happening, I'd take prof. hulk.

I don't see that happening, either. Banner and the Hulk seem to be getting along since Planet Hulk.

Alternatively, I'd love to see Mr. Fixit return, if only to see the Hulk rocking some pinstripes again. :)

hmmm, you know what would be interesting (and someone tell me if they've already done this) but to have banner so mixed up that everytime he becomes the hulk it's randomly one of his previous forms. It wouldn't be anything that should be permenant but I kinda like that concept (at least it plays out well in my head).

I think Jenkins did something like that in the last adjectiveless Hulk title. He kicked Banner's multiple personality disorder into overdrive and introduced all kinds of funky Hulks, although most of them were relegated to Banner's mind and never took over the physical body.

huh, not really a fan of jenkins, I think I'll pass. Shame. I just had this wacky idea in my head where for like a week or whatever whenever banner became hulk it could go brainless original, Mr. Fixit or the professor, with wacky results.

Oh, I don't think Jenkins' run was particularly good. Just saying, it tackled a similar concept. It's a good idea in practice, though. I've always found it odd how mysteriously reliable the Hulk is at any given time for a raging id.

Reed with preptime IS the FF. My original beef was that the Hulk took Reed down too easy. If Reed has all his resources, which we all know includes his family, then he could have took the Hulk down. EDIT-- Just imagine Superman invading the Batcave without Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, or Batmite showing up to help. :D

And to be honest even if you removed the FF and gave Reed the amount of time he had I think he could have come up with something better than a fake Sentry. That crap might work on Gladiator but it won't work on the Hulk.

I guess in all fairness this Modern Reed prolly couldn't do it after all. In my day Reed would have used anti-gamma rays and turned him into Bruce Banner. X-Ray of the U-Foes used that trick all the time. Or he would have sent him to the Microverse or Galaxy 56378 where the Gravity would reduce the Hulk to a 90 lb weakling, or...

God I could go on forever...

I have no doubt Reed could beat the Hulk through some scientific doohicky all on his own if we're giving him prep time. I just don't think Reed and the Fantastic Four are somehow synonymous, especially if you're talking about a fight.

You know how unique the FF are. It's almost impossible to separate them. But I get what you're saying as well. If it's Reed and the Hulk in a box, of course the Hulk will win.

Did you ever read the "What If the Invisible Woman had Died?" Sue dies in childbirth because the Boys get held longer by Annihilus in the Negative Zone. Well the boys get back and Sue dies. After the funeral Reed goes bat**** crazy. He erases all his files and then goes on a suicide mission to the Negative Zone to take down Annihilus.

Reed is unstoppable. It was awesome.

I have to agree. I was scratching my head in bewilderment when i read that issue. Reed is given 24 hours prep time...and THAT is what he came up with?

So, I couldn't find that What If at my shop, unfortunately. I'm going to another shop tonight because I missed Captain Britain and MI-13, so I'll check there.

Keep your eyes peeled. It's a great addition to any collection. And quite possibly the best What If ever.

Course I might be bias. :D

Thank you, Cap'n. I was beginning to think I was TOO prejudiced towards Reed.

Not at all, reed should have had something better, same for doc strange. Tony was the only one that actually had hulk beat with his strategy (if hardball hadn't ruined it).

Well, there was a mention in The Last Defenders this week about how Strange's magic energy is at an all-time low, so I guess the crap Bendis has been spewing about how Strange is super-weak could've been at play outside of the Bendisvengers books as far back as WWH.

But Reed should definitely have had something better.

i dont think hes bad but i kinda agree that marvel brought him out of nowhere (while saying that he was always there and all of the ppl of earth had there memory wiped so thats why they couldnt recognize him) and why call him the worlds strongest hero it was cool when it was just thor, hulk and silver surfer but now this guy???hes also too emo! but i wouldnt call him a superman rip off since he doesnt have the x-ray vision, heat vision, super breath, he also has his own powers that even supes doesnt have so he really isnt a superman copy.

The sentry has potential. The major problem is that after making him god like, they forgot that unlike Dc, they lack godlike enemies to fight with. Though yeah SI was dissappointing in his actions. They could have done anything else but no he's gotta go out like that. Though as we've seen though, The sentry is only one flip of the coin. The otherside has major balls(gay given his actions but balls)
