Only if it's Blind Fury's perception.

by self worth do you mean self esteem, if so than yes.

people see me as a lazy stoner whos dosnt do anyting, well if thats what they see me as than thats what i give them, it does kind of effect my self worth. cuz i know i can do much more. yes i admit im lazy, but i should get over that in time.

Anyone remember the Twilight Zone episode where the beautiful women was considered a disfigured abomination by a society where being a disfigured abomination was normal?

What should determine a person's self worth?

Also why do we care what people think of us? Are our brains wired that way for Darwinian purposes? Or does society train us to care about what others think for Orwellian purposes?

Yes, I remember that episode.
I sort of shirk the confrontation, by telling people so little about myself.

That's totally stupid.

well i do it mostly to my family, but when im outside with friends im energetic and outgoing, not as lazy as if i were at home, but hey isnt home a place to kick back and be lazy?

Whilst I still think it's pretty daft, I guess that does raise an interesting point as to how one acts around family or friends.

Do you use this approach with just strangers or everyone?

I think most people try to project an ideal self to others while keeping our true selves hidden.

"Be careful what you pretend to be because you are what you pretend to be." - Kurt Vonnegut

I think it's uncivilized to pretend to be something your not for social status. You're trading your freedom to be and express your true self for a prison of social acceptance and conditional love.

This may be considered civilized now but I believe sometime in the future society's ultimate goal will be to help all people achieve self-actualization rather than than help a few achieve status and prestige.

Should we seek friends who accept us for who we are?

or change who we are to obtain/keep friends?

Personally I cannot consider someone who doesn't know or accept my true self as a friend. But I understand we don't always have a choice because friends are hard to come by. Sometimes hiding our true selves is a compromise we make to keep relationships.

it does if one is easily influenced by other people.

for me, it really doesn't, my opinion of my self is the only thing that matters and that's because i'm slightly harsher critic than anyone else.
