Infinity War Does Whatever a Spider Can - The Peter Parker/Spider-Man thread

I wonder if the suit has repulsors? I mean if you're gonna Iron Spider, might as well "IRON" Spider, get me? Pretty sure the gold on his wrists are web shooters. All in all I'm digging the texture and pattern of the suit.

Oh that makes sense. I was wondering how he was going to shoot the webs from the suit, but if its coming out of those bracelets I can dig it.

The odd thing about the MCU Spider-Man is that Uncle Ben isn't mentioned (yet). So Peter Parker does NOT seem to have a never-ending emotionally-stunting guilt complex.
"I can't stop being Spider-Man, because Uncle Ben is always going to be dead and it's always going to be my fault instead of the man who killed him."
Thank God. We don't need emotional angst in a Spider-Man film.

He is pretty much Iron boy at this point. So not having repulsors would be odd.

Oh you best believe post IW they're gonna take full advantage of that side of Peter. I feel like the only reason he's not feeling it now is because Tony is sort of filling that void but Peter will soon realize that isn't the one he needs to impress.

I hope so

Or because Tony might be one of the casuailties of IW/Avengers 4?!

Naw, I am trying my best not to think that...He's just gonna retire. Move to Boca

The...hell?

Yeah, 'cause the 50+ years of books never had that or anything.

Majority of the books are light-hearted adventures of young Peter Parker/Spider-Man at school. No need for emotional angst. It doesn't make for entertainment.

You do realize that Peter Parker graduated high school five years into his 57-year run, right?

Maybe angst isn't the right word for it. Spider-man's stories have always worked because they combine emotional conflict with light-hearted adventures.

True. But they don't need to explore that concept just yet. I believe the level of angst in the films will increase as the films go forth and Peter ages.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I REALLY dislike this new suit's design. Idk what exactly it is, but the more I see it the less excited I am about it. Could be because I'm not a fan of Iron Man-tech Spidey

Gee-wiz, pal, that Spideyman's always such a breezy light-hearted ragamuffin.

This is a guy who's shared books/arcs with freakin' Daredevil and The Punisher for god's sake, along with having been written by Frank Miller of all people for a while.

Most Marvel characters have a pretty broad spectrum of tones/stories. Yeah, Spidey has his light & breezy keep-the-neighborhood-safe aspects. He also has the "McFarlane's Venom's breaking into my home, stalking me and talking about brutally killing my girlfriend" aspects.

Like, you know, most Marvel characters. Different villains, different periods in their life, different tones. Peter's not a dark & grim individual, but trying to say he hasn't had some pretty bleak & tense & "emotionally-angsty" stories is ridiculous.

EDIT: But yeah, SpideyJJ, I hate this tech-suit bull**** too. Makes sense in-universe, Tony wanting to protect him as much as possibly, power him up a bit, but it's still totally balls as a Spider-Man look.

The best Spider-Man comics take place at school with little to no repeated crying over Uncle Ben/Gwen Stacy. Spider-Man: Homecoming understands that Spider-Man should be a school comedy.

"Can" be a school comedy, is what you're looking for.

I disagree with this notion. The best, most iconic Spider-Man stories take place when Peter is an adult in College.

Aximili is correct in saying that the tone of Spider-Man comics do frequently fluctuate. Tragedy and loss is a consistent theme throughout the comics. Homecoming did touch upon this but I think they're going to lean more heavily into that element in the sequels

Yeah, it depends what situation he's in. Stopping Shocker or some small-timey guy from robbing a bank - yeah, quippy smartass fun teenagery Pete will shine through.

He's not all "whoa, awesome dude!" when Goblin's bombing people or Venom's threatening his family or Morbius is out on the hunt. I won't even get into the Carnage stuff.

Pete's just a guy. He has his relaxed, fun, wanna-hang-with-this-guy moments. He also has his crying, "I give up", throw-my-costume-in-the-trash moments and his "I'm going to beat you to death, Norman!" moments.

No different to how Cap functions in WWII stories, modern political-thriller stories, and big Avengers team-up aliens-are-everywhere stories. Same character, different moods & contexts & circumstances.

Almost guarantee Tom's Spidey will go through some serious **** before he retires from the MCU down the line.

Peter Parker is nowhere near as good as an adult. He's a much more fun and interesting superhero as a kid at school having to juggle school responsibilities with superheroism. Marvel won't do any of the tragedy and loss thing because they know that's not what audiences want from superhero films; audiences want light and breezy feel-good movies, and that has always been the best tone for Spider-Man stories.

Loved the exchange between Strange and Peter as well as the final shot!

Amount of Spider-Man comics that are a school comedy: 0.
