Infinity War Does Whatever a Spider Can - The Peter Parker/Spider-Man thread

Loved Spidey in this, he got some really cool power moments and showed his strength a bit more than he was able to in Homecoming.

Him stopping Cull’s hammer and being able to knock Thanos about a bit had me giggling like a school kid.

I guess on a more superficial note, I pretty much want to start collecting any and all Iron Spider merchandise that I can.

I love this Iron Spidey suit much more than the comic book one.

Aloha,
Me too. I never really cared for the Iron Spider costume during the comic book Civil War arc, but in IW, it looked great and served a real purpose.

MCU has been drawing from the ultimates and other timeliness for quite a while now.
Exactly, MCU has never simply been one type of comics. It has borrowed as much from Ultimates as it did from 616. Including Tony and Peter's relationship with elements of the 616 Tony/Peter relationship. Not to mention Ultimate has influenced several other Spider-Man cartoons, movies and video games. It at this point has as much validity as the 616 does.

That being said while Ultimate Peter did idolize Tony, it didn't feel as much as he does in the MCU. I did like Spidey's power set but I do feel like Homecoming captured the more natural teenage voice in a sense more than Infinity War, and to a lesser extent Civil War did. Hopefully there is a balance.

Yeah I prefer what we got in IW to the comics on that.

Still don't make the Ultimate line the "traditional" versions of any of the Marvel characters and outside of aesthetics, the MCU has pulled WAY more from the 616.

No one used the word traditional until you I think......

But Thor in RR and IW, Nick Fury....Hawkeye.....WWII Cap...... SM HC Iron Man...TWS Falcon....all draw from their ultimate interpretations

I absolutely loved Spider-Man in this...but, I'm hoping he starts coming into his own here fairly soon. I realize he's an inexperienced kid by comparison however I'd like to see his confidence start to build.

Otherwise, Spider-Man was great. His lines, the action, all so well done. And of course Holland himself knocks it outta the park. That ending though, damn.

I love his reaction to getting [BLACKOUT]"knighted" into the Avengers by Stark[/BLACKOUT]. He's happy instantly but quickly puts on a responsible/humble face as he considers what it means and what he needs to do. This guy really wants to be a decent, upstanding hero. Love the kid.

Agree on the mr. Stark lines. I really wish he did better vs the guardians too

I agree to an extent. I think of Spider-Man 616 and what he's done over his 'career'...Spidey has trounced the X-Men, knocked the Hulk flat on his back, single handed defeated Fire Lord, took down the Juggernaut by himself, lifted tons of steel off his back even at the point of exhaustion and defeated countless super villains and threats so, the Guardians should be easy work for him. However, MCU Spider-Man is not there yet. He's still too young, inexperienced and unaware of the potential he has. I hope his confidence starts building in the sequel and begins to take steps toward becoming his own man. So as it stands him not doing as well as he should against the Guardians makes sense. I don't like it but it makes sense.

Yeah, MCU Spidey is just starting out and getting valuable experience. Imagine him doing stuff like this for 5/6 years and where he'd be by then.

I found that Peter had earned his spot as an Avenger, so when Tony knighted him. It felt special. Even though Tony basically did it because he stow away lol

Yeah loved that moment, and previously when he refused to leave the ship and go back to Earth.

I've liked him in all 3 films (CW, HC & IW) but this is the best I've seen of him so far. The MCU really got Spidey right.

He really has earned it. And not because he stowed away but because of what he did to help, his will to help and the fact that the Avengers needed him at that situation. He's definitely worth his spot on the team. I'm glad it was also made official for the audience.

Tom Holland voted best Spider-Man after 'Avengers: Infinity War'
I can go with this. He's the best combination of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Tobey was a good Peter but so-so SM while Garfield was a so-so Peter and a good SM.

I had my issues with HC and think it's quite over rated, but overall yeah he has been great. I think the Russo's have a better handle on him personally and that's I prefer their take on him overall. In IW though, he wasn't just there to make up the numbers, and it was great to see.

It’s in my lower half of MCU films. Holland was fine in it but it’s not a film I would rewatch every day. Spidey in IW though was pretty much amazing all the way through. Couldn’t have asked for any more.

Yep, agreed on all that.

I was surprised how much I liked his spider legs in this one. Wasn't crazy upon hearing they would put it in beforehand but it looked and moved like real spider legs and felt like natural extensions of the suit. They were used really well overall.

He does little subtle things like that, that make this iteration much better than the previous two.

Personally, I hate that "Spiderman" is perpetually trapped as a kid on the big screen. I grew up reading him as a man with responsibilities at his job just as much as being a hero. But being young really resonated in IW.

Took the girlfriend to see it, who basically has zero interest,
and when he started to fade she was literally crying. Tremendous acting in that scene!

Yeah, it was good seeing Holland as a kid but I want to see him progress to adulthood during the course of the MCU too. Some of my favourite Spidey stuff from the comics is of adult Peter Parker after he's left high school.

Yeah, the acting was really good in that scene. It's upsetting even on rewatches when you know it's coming. Very well done.

I haven't seen Homecoming since it's release but I remember thinking his reaction was odd considering he just turned down an invitation from Stark at the end of his own film? And now he's all of a sudden honored to be a part of them.
Maybe there was enough of a time gap between these 2 films so he basically had a change of heart?
