Payne: Four 2 Will Do More

Don Payne, who is writing the upcoming Fantastic Four sequel movie, confirmed to SCI FI Wire the previously reported news that the follow-up to the superhero hit will prominently feature the Silver Surfer, herald of the planet-devouring Galactus. "That's the worst-kept secret in town," Payne said in an interview while promoting his latest project, the superhero romantic comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend. "The Silver Surfer will be in it. The Fantasticar will be in it. We're just trying to make it more exciting and funnier, and, you know, we're trying to top the first one."

Payne (The Simpsons) said that the second Fantastic Four adventure presents numerous opportunities, as so much of the first film was devoted to establishing the characters and introducing the Fantastic Four universe. Now, for example, there will be more time given over to developing Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd), aka Mr. Fantastic. "I think people know the characters now," Payne said. "They know the tone a little bit better. Origin stories are always hard to get off the ground, and we're going to be up and running. I think the one thing I really want to do is make Reed Richards, that character, smarter and tougher. He's the leader. I think Ioan did a great job [in the first film], but I think he could have had more stuff to play as the leader. Reed Richards has his nerdy side, but he ultimately has to make some tough choices." The Fantastic Four sequel will begin production later this summer with an eye toward a June 15, 2007, release. —Ian Spelling

This is a great find man. And the plans payne has for Reed, fabulous, this is exactly what happened in the comics (not that he has to be cut from the comic pages) but its good that Reed will get some attention.

I think that the first movie showcased ben, this will probably be Reed's film with all the talk about his relationship with Sue and the FF now being a corporation. Sue will also no doubt see even more screen time.

Johnny and the surfer will probably headline the trilogy's end as they defeat Galactus as Story no doubt knows he was prominently featured in Big G's defeat by lee/Kirby.

On a totally unrelated point I hope the Fantastic Four gets to make it to a fourth movie. After all they are the fantastic four.

Again, good find dark

Thanks. Payne is a relative newbie but he sounds like he's in touch with the fans complaints at least on the issues he touched on. That on top of Story's comments on Doom and the action...I'm happy.

That sounds really great. let's just hope they can transfer that to the big screen.

I still think they move to Dec 14 2007. Watch. :)
Avi wants a summer date and i only see them pushing back if it's really need to be done.

^ I know he said that but I think FF needs some time to itself. I hope they set the film during the XMAS holidays too. That always seemed to make the first 2 Die Hard films more fun for some reason.LOL

people than would say that be ultimate cheesythan. and FF2 doesn't need a need anything else against it. its had a hard enough time with that during the first one.

Sounds like Payne has a lot on the ball.
Nice to be able to breathe something like a sigh of relief.

uh no considering there was only stuff in there about Reed. Yes more for Reed...that's cool. Doesn't mean much in the long run.

Nice find AD:up:
I'm not 100% convinced by Payne. Yeah sure he's a fan of FF and thats a plus but he's only done comedies in the past. I'd feel much better if he had written one or two good dramas but thats just me.

More Mr Fantastic does sound good. Just hope the fx is better this time around. The fx for him in the bridge scene was not really good.

Nope and no they're still worried, they'll ALWAYS be worried.

 I definitely like what he says about Reed. It seems like he may get it.

June 15 is perfect as long as they have enough time for proper post production. I really think the holidays cut in to family box office. Harry Potter is one thing but FF needs to stay in the summer. Even after Spider-Man and POTC3 clean up, they'll still be plenty of box office left for FF2. As long as a completely cool FF trailer is attached to Spidey 3, FF2 will do well enough.

Strike when the summer iron is hot and people are making it a habit to go to the show. "Build it and they will come."

How come there is no mention of Galactus ever, besides saying his herald is the Silver Surfer...

is Galactus gonna be in this or not....????

I guess they kicked the Watcher out....

:(

I really think it will do well in the summer. As long as they start promoting early and well. The need a teaser in the next few months. Take a page from Spidey, not Superman where they waited till 7 months before to release a teaser.

Galactus was confirmed by the girl playing Alicia Masters in her last article from what I remember, and then later by another source. It's somewhere on this board.

Here it is:

Alicia Confirms FF 2's Silver Surfer
Lovely Kerry Washington says fans can expect Galactus as well.

Kerry Washington, who played Alicia Masters in Fantastic Four, told MTV that the sequel "probably will be darker.

"They have handed in two different scripts, and they are trying now to take the best of both," she said. "So we're not exactly sure yet what it's going to look like."

Fans can be sure that both Silver Surfer and his world-devouring master Galactus will be in the film, she said. "You would think that the Silver Surfer would be its own movie franchise, because people really love that character," Washington said. "I think it's really exciting that they're bringing that to 'Fantastic Four.' I think it'll be huge."

Look for Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer June 15, 2007.

Yeah thanks. I sent that to the hype editor 45 minutes after it was released on that site and they post it this morning with no cred to me. Bastaches!

Edit: Ok they fixed it for me and gave me credit. I hereby unbastach them. ;)

AMAZING news!!!

perfect I am so happy.

you know what guys I think Don Payne will pull the script for this one off really well.

the only thing that kinda worries me is that the movie will be FUNNIER. I think the first one had a lot of comedy and less action (which btw was great).

Hopefully F4-2 will have a LOT of action and cool sfx + funnier (meaning better comedy lines).

That's good news. Mr Fantastic always seemed to be not enough of a leader to me in the last film.

So are you guys a little less worried now?

I was worried about Payne. Now I an much more hopefull. It seams he has a good understanding of what FF is all about.:) Stronger, more of a leader, Reed is indeed what that charactor needs. No mention of Galctus. Silver Surfer prominent is good. Nothing about Doom either. I think that is the best keep secret. I see no mention of Doom, or Julian in anything pertaining to the cast. We know the basic 4 will be there, along with SS. Mabey Doom is the big surprise. The Fantasticar. I like that very much. :) So I am much more hopefull, however I still worry about the editing idiots at Fox. That has always been my main concern. POTC shows that people will sit thru a 2 1/2 hour movie, if it is good and entertaining, and it can make a ton of money to boot. And speaking as only 1 FF fan, a 2 1/2 movie is np here. :) As long as I get to see a good FF sequel, with all the goodies we fans deserve. :)
