New article from Wizard Entertainment

kinda of a bad example.... but what if they pulled a Lord of the Rings, and do Galactus like the Gollum character in FOTR.... only show glimpses of him... like the silver surfer could reference him, then they could show the depths of space, and only focus in on Galctus's eye's..... they could do this very artsy, very dramatic... never show him, only small hints and glimpses... that way, if FF2 is a huge success, we can get Galactus in all his glory for FF3.....

I agree with all that you've said.....the problem is.......the money made on the first movie is not from the comic geekdom (if anything....in my humble opinion....they did more to hurt the film than help its success)....its from the average moviegoer.....the average moviegoer, to my knowledge, has no clue who Galactus is.....I didn't until a couple of years ago.....and I actually knew quite a bit about the Fantastic Four from the cartoon.....but I really didn't know many of their villains other than Doom, Malice and the Frightful Four.....I think there is a way to merge the old with the new.....and make it work......I do not want a total original Galactus...but I do think there is a way to merge the two....and hopefully Fox has figured that out.....

Just one thing..I brought up Galactus at a drinks party with people who were bankers, lawyers, consultants and diplomats and funnily enough they seemed aware it was some planet eating person whereas the FF4 they had very little knowledge. I found that very strange and was surprised but I think more people are aware of galactus then we may think. Just to caveat what I said had to use planet eating humanoid to jog memories.

Hi Malus,

My bad LOL. There is no pink as you have demonstrated. I was typing my reply at work and for some reason I kept seeing pink in my head. But like I said, John Byrne says we all see Galactus our own way, so I say I see a pink and purple giant LOL. Thanks again for correcting me. That is a mistake that really shouldn't have been made.

As with all of us, we can only speak of the crowd we know......in my opinion, from the people I know.....as with me, none of them have heard of Galactus.....then again......none of them had heard of Green Goblin either with the first Spiderman.....its one of those things we will not know how it will come off until the movie comes out......I do not want a full on Galactus (bright pink, purple, blue....however each of us sees him) a more muted coloring would be much more to my liking.......but I do think they need to balance more in the direction of the original....if that makes sense....

This may be a shade of purple....but it damn well looks pink to the people I just showed it to.....lol

I myself like the more muted coloring of this one....

this looks pretty good.....and much more menacing to me....

this is from a website of purple palettes....I like the 3rd color....I'd be fine with that....along with the color to the right....any brighter....hmmmmm....no.

That makes sense. I do not care too much about the coloring as long as it looks good but I would hate to see the Ultimate version brought to life.

Looking at these pictures of Galactus and my warped little brain went into silly mode. If the F4 manage to blind him in one eye and then give him a sax to play, he'll be a one eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater. Sorry, I haven't had my morning tea yet.

>^^<

I honestly can see both....with Galactus in his original form as the end result....I think it would work very well on the big screen.....geeesh....I don't know.....I'm just going to have to wait and see what they in mind.....trying to figure it out before hand is just giving me a headache...

Turns on the sarcasto ray and steps in front of it.........

It's a good thing Sam Raimi and Donner took out all the cheese and corniness in their films. God knows, they would have been huge flops with the general audience. Who in the world would want to see a movie about a guy in tights swinging through NYC--audiences aren't familiar with the comics the way the comic nerds are. The material must be made realistic and believable for the average audience. Tights simply cannot work on the big screen. Spider-man should wear some kind of body armor and climbing claws like a ninja for a live-action movie. The closer these films are to the source material the worse of they are.

It seems Hollywood will never learn from huge financial disasters like the Star Wars franchise. You simply cannot go way over the top with these films.....Look at the Indiana Jones franchise and how miserably it was received by audiences--I mean come on!! Who can do all those things in real life? Gimme a break!! Who's supposed to believe that??!!...

Steps out of sarcasto ray.

You know, I really hope Payne and Story, as fans get to do Galactus the way they KNOW he should be done. Firstly so that we get to see Galactus on screen the way we've always imagined. Secondly to silence the nay sayers, who really seem devoid of any sort of sophisticated imagination.

There was so much of the same talk before the Spider-man films ad-nauseam. After Raimi and his team proved it could be done, the excuses came. "You can get away with it because it's Spider-man". "It worked because the films was so silly".

Jesus people imagination. If all you see is a comicbook page and the image of a guy with a "dorky helmet" I kinda feel sorry for you. If all you saw in Jackson's LOTR trilogy was a fun exciting summer movie, I feel sorry for you. If you don't get some sense of wonder from the Harry Potter films, I feel sorry for you. If the whole, Jedi Knights and Sith Lords thing comes across and corny and silly, rather than a classic and epic struggle between good and evil,.... I really don't know what to tell you.

Use your God given imagination.

How about we simply allow everyone to give their opinion, including you, instead of telling everyone what their opinion should be... If you want the total original....thats cool....I see no problem with that....I would rather have alittle of the UFF thrown in as well....thats my opinion.....WITH imagination....thank you....:yay:

Excuse me, double post...

I agree, I would like to see him more muted than bright tones. I believe his traditional blueish-pink (borderlining on a purple) is called magenta.

The official Marvel model sheets (including color keys) specify that Galactus' armor is purple and blue.

But I agree, the traditional look should be muted. In fact I'd go with a predominantly black-armored Galactus, but with blue and purple gridwork or circuitry-like piping that glows.

I wouldn't mind if Galactus became black and silver.

I wouldn't mind if Galactus became black and silver.
I wouldn't scream murder either.
I just want the general appearance (giant god-like being; armored) to remain faithful.

I'd prefer he never left his ship, to tell the truth.
Because I think everything that is essential and frightening about Galactus can be conveyed by showing him in that context.
In fact, I'm pretty sure that's been the setting for at least 75% of all Galactus' appearances throughout the character's 40-year history.

I would bet that Galactus will look like Galactus, to ignore the ulimate alliance design would be a travesty of justice, a travesty. Story must know this.

What a great article. It's sounds like he is really into the characters, and will do justice to them (as much as you can do justice to them in a movie, at least)

I find it annoying that after a great article like that, 90 percent of the posts revolve around endless nitpicking of the shade of Galactus's Purple Helmet. It's a little perverted, in my not-so-humble opinion. :oldrazz:

More important, positive things: It sounds like the Surfer is going to be perfect. Reed is going to be a true leader, and the Baxter Building is going to be pimpriffic. He understands the Fantastic Four is all about Sci-Fi. Dr. Doom is going to be a bad-ass.
All good stuff. Can't wait. After hearing all that coolness, and seeing the sweet teaser, the color of Galactus's helmet doesn't register very high on my give-a-crap-o-meter.

"Give-a-crap-o-meter." That's great.

so we are going to see..... Gah Lak Tus......

great.... (sarcasim)

I don't remember him mentioning that in the article....:whatever:

As far as color.....as I said.....I'm fine as long as the color doesn't take away from who Galactus is....as in.....my god that guy is pink.....and they never see the true danger that he is.....if they can do that....I have no problem with the color....it is simply an opinion...

I'm trying not to read a whole lot into this article....mainly because I remember a certain Frost talking about his love of the Fantastic Four and how much of a fan he is of the comic.....

Alot of it sounds great....I would have actually liked to have read alittle more about the characterization and relationships of the 4 themselves....my hope is that he was simply talking about 1 aspect of the entire movie.....and not talking about the majority of the movie....

^didn't he mention ultimate extinction... last time I checked.. that was all about Gah Lak Tus........

I think one concession that the hardcore may have to make is the loss of the antlers on his hat

I guess alittle clarification on my part about the color may help in understanding my thoughts on it....

I simply want a look for Galactus that will enhance his intimidation, not take away from it.....so whatever color, style, whatever they use for Galactus I want it to further his character......not send people whispering in the crowd everytime he is on screen....

ok.....I'm done......:cwink:

For all this going-back-and-forth about Galactus' look I sincerly hope we get a good reveal of him on film. Because I have a strong feeling we aren't going to see crap, save a hazy outline of him in a nebulae. :p
