Don't Dumb it Down Dangit

Malus I respect you and all the multi-year F4 comic lovers....but none of us have experienced this ON-SCREEN....and thats what is going to count....ALSO.....the majority of that audience out there will be seeing this for the first time....they haven't experienced the comic either....its a comic, not the big screen....what will work in the comics sometimes will not work on screen...NO MATTER HOW WONDERFULLY IT WAS WRITTEN....SM in my opinion, pushed the envelope with Green Goblin.....this is FAR BIGGER...and I'm sorry, but until I see it on screen and hear the audience reaction....I'm sorry, but I do not believe that the original Galactus will work on screen....no matter how many times you tell me how wonderfully it was written....I'm not talking the writint....I'm not talking the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s....I'm talking an audience of the 21st century...and as much as I want to think that will work......sorry...but I don't.:O

You mentioned my Power Ranger comment....the reason I even made that comment was because I was honestly saying the first thing that I thought....unfortunately even with all of ya'lls input thats still what I see.....I believe that audience will see the same thing....and it will never leave their mind....no matter how well its written.....I didn't make that comment to be sarcastic, funny, or a jack ass....it was an honest idea....and I'm afraid it will be the same for other movie-goers...

DO I WANT TO BE WRONG....Hell yeah!.......and if I am.....YOU KNOW....that I'll be the first one here to admit it......

Why don't you think the original Galactus idea would work? We are already testing people by claiming there is a being who devours planets as a food source, who gives powers to someone to find said planets to devour. Why is the ultimate route more realistic than him simply being a gigantic and powerful being. I don't see it. Audiences can buy giant gorillas, worlds where animals talk, fish people running a pirate ship, and cosmic rays empowering people with superpowers, but not a world devourer being one really big and powerful individual? I just don't see why. You also don't need Galactus to look like he does. Redesign his costume, or whatever, but don't make him a cheap Matric robot knock off. Galactus can and would work.

I don't want to repeat this 100x...the look....the look...the look....what works on a comic page....may not work on the big screen....I don't think this will work on the big screen....without some massive modifications.....

one more time.....the look.

I don't mean to be rude.....but I explained that. I hate the fact that I'm against something that many here hold very important...but I do.....thats all I have to say. And don't put words in my quote.....I've never said the Ultimate be more realistic or even mentioned anything matrix.....I'M NOT EVEN TALKING REALISM HERE....its a comic book movie for crying out loud....but I think the original Galactus is too over the top to work. Thats all I'm saying on the subject.

You don't have to make him look like he does in the comics. Redesign his look. That isn't hard. If they put out an accurate Galactus that was one being, but was given a major redesign, I wouldn't complain, nor do I think people would. I just don't want to see an inferior version when you can just change his look.

So you want the original....

But you are ok with a change in the look????

I guess I'm confused now....

by change his look do you mean you would accept him being say Juggernaught in X3's size ?

I'd want him to still be gigantic, but you could do something with his costume. If you make him look cool, people will accept it. Trust me. I'd accept a costume change, but not changing him into the ultimate version.

I wouldn't mind this coloring...

No i wasn't suggesting the ultimate version,im not a fan of that but i was thinking they could alter his costume and make him Juggernaught size as opposed to skyscraper size

Why is the size an issue? Tell me exactly why you think it won't work?

Reinterpretation, YES. No problem. Tone down the campiness a bit. Even Kirby refined the character between his first appearance at the end of FF#48 and the first pages of FF #49.

But Galactus has to be an individual being that the Surfer serves, or a lot of what makes their dynamic work won't be there.

If they make Galactus a faceless armada, after what they did to Dr. Doom in FF1, they will have done nothing more than shoot themselves in the other foot.

And JMAfan- In my opinion, the reason the Green Goblin failed so miserably is because they went with that ridiculous mask that obscured Dafoe's features. They never should have concealed his face; even latex paint would have worked better. The result was something that looked very much like a power ranger character.
And that's because they changed it from what worked.

Galactus is a solitary God-like being who is older than the known universe; he is a force of nature;above morality.
He's not an armada of alien ships, any more than the Silver Surfer has wings or Dr. Doom plays "Marco Polo." :down

If the guy is absorbing planet's life force, than I think he needs to be bigger.

I understand Malus....but still feel the same.

This might make an interesting poll question. Of all the FF characters, I think Galactus is one whose physical appearance can be altered from it's original design, but I would like to keep the spirit of the character close.

I have a feeling a lot of other fans feel similarly. What Galactus looks like isn't nearly as important as what Galactus is.

So on-the-nose and concise that it hurts, Willie.  :ff:

There's no one in here really suggesting the characterization should be altered, just one post and he made an interesting post on how the UFF Galactus could work although they shouldn't call it Galactus IMO
