doommachine's art thread

Here's a little project I'm working on for my advertising class (somehow my assignments in that class have repeatedly been really cool). The assignment is to do pro-war propaganda posters in the vein of old-style ones but for the current war. I'm still wildly undecided about the slogan/other lettering to put on it. The idea is kind of to show like a long warrior tradition and saying to people y'know, like you can be a part of this or something like that. Anyway, here's the picture so far. It's very far from being finished, even the composition isn't anywhere close to what it's going to be and the background is mostly just a placeholder, but I thought it would be cool to post it in stages.

That is awesome! I wish I was assigned projects like that in school!

Some scribblings.

Character/costume design that I'm not really sure how I'm going to use yet:

Another coloring assignment. There's 2 versions and the difference is very small, but I'm not really sure which one I like better, or if I should tweak it some other way. I've also included the original lineart so you can see what it starts out like.

I like the second, more muted one, personally. They both look great, though.

You are phenomenal! Do you have any tips on how to draw bodies like the first pic?

Johnny Blaze?
I don't know the character's name. It's a Walking Dead cover.

Thanks. Yeah I prefer that one as well. That's the version I ended up turning in.

Thanks :woot:. I hate to sound like everyone who's ever answered that question, but it's basically just a matter of studying anatomy books, life, and photos and then lots of practice. To get the motion of a pose like that or say, for Spider-man or something, I find that it helps to watch videos of acrobats or parkour. Hope that helps.

I'm sorry, but you have a ghost rider avatar and you couldn't tell me if that was Johhny Blaze or not.

It was a reasonable question. I forgot to say where the lineart was from when I posted it.

I still don't get how you couldn't know if that was Blaze or not considering you drew it from a walking dead cover and you seem to be a fan of the character by your avatar

Um, I think there's some kind of misunderstanding happening here but I'm not really sure what it is. I'm sorry about any confusion. I'll do my best to clear it up.

I didn't draw the picture; it's colored from the original lineart of a Walking Dead cover (the original can be found here) for an assignment in my coloring class at school. I can understand why you might think it's Johnny Blaze because of my avatar, but that was just a coincidence. I meant to say where it was from when I first posted it but I forgot.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks. I haven't been working on it a whole lot at the moment. Other projects take precedence because they're due sooner. I've been working on a double-page spread of dinosaurs ransacking New York, so that's taking up quite a bit of my time :-P. This is what it looks like now, still far from finished:

I'll probably post the dinosaur pages once they're penciled.

so young and yet so talented. also, patient...

lol

freaking awesome!
:woot: thanks

Thanks, but I swear I have no talent whatsoever. Just lots of years of trial and error. I would dispute you on the patience thing too, but the artwork I'm just now putting up would totally contradict me. It took LOADS of patience.

I've been working on it for a while but did all the buildings today because I procrastinate like crazy. I'm actually pretty happy with it though. I left it rougher than I normally would for finished pencils because I'm going to be inking it very soon. It's kind of a bad scan because the pencils are pretty light but hopefully you can make out everything ok. Double-page-spread of dinosaurs wreckin' up a city:

Finished that propaganda poster assignment. It came out pretty well I think.
