Rise of the Silver Surfer DR. DOOM/Julian McMahon Discussion

I saw a tv special on this film. The clips with Doom are excellent! He's gonna chase theirs asses like the Wicked Witch of the West!

Like this?

That's sic! Can't wait to see him with the mask on.

Question though...I've never really followed F4 that well but, isn't Dr. Doom's 'scars' psychological? i.e. his scars he's been going on and on about for years were revealed to be almost nothing and that it was his vanity that made him believe he was damaged...

Years after he had left Marvel, Jack Kirby would answer the questions from the fans at various comic book conventions. He started proposing the thought that Victor only had a small scar along the side of his face. Here is a sketch he drew of it...

Well, check out my thread about Stan and Jack's appearances in the FF. In issue #10, both Stan and Jack "meet" the Lord of Latveria and Jack is seen trying to cover his eyes in horror at the the sight of Doom unmasked. You can also look at various pictures Kirby drew later on where there appears to be scar tissue around the eyes, or at least what we can see of them through the mask. Stan, for his part, and many writers afterward, always went with the idea that he was badly scarred.

When John Byrne started writng the FF, he had heard from Kirby about the smaller scar idea. So he wrote a tale that reconciled both Kirby and Stan's versions. In "True Lies"... FF #278, Doom's young ward Kristoff has the memories of his guardian implanted in his psyche (the Doombots performed this task since it was believed that Doom was dead after he was blasted into atoms when the Surfer defeated Terrax in FF#260). The memories showed him with a small scar after the failed experiment in college and then when he exiled himself to Tibet, the mask he had forged for himself was still hot when the monks placed it on his face. The second incident resulted in the permanent disfiguration.

Cool. Reminds me of Emperor Pappy from Star Wars.

Thanks Iron Maiden! I was asking about this in the FF Comics board but no one answered.

Is that a man standing and shrugging in a golf-shirt behind that super-computer

Yes and the other people there are also part of the crew... You can't possibly think that's part of the scene.

I just read somewhere that Doom gets turned back into human by the SS. Does that mean he loses his electrical powers and metal skin? That would be good news.

Oh, I haven't been over there for a while since things have gotten busy. Glad to have found your answer for you though!

Easy for you to say. The movie does not come out till the 8th of August in my neck of the woods and I am not flying to NYC just see it.

Same here. I wonder what the deal is, since usually we usually get movies this big within two weeks of the world premiere.

I know but I think they did not have much hope for part of the interenational market so they wanted to distribute it later in the year for the kids summer market.

It sucks but what can you do.

a bit over the top but it still looks damn nice.... and thats saying something considering i dont like much from this movie. lol

is this from the movie??

Yes, but sadly, according to those who've seen the movie,
that scene and the one that shows the interior of Castle Doom was cut so I guess we will get an even better extended cut that will have all that awesome footage :(
