Title says it all, how would the Earth's sorcerer supreme fair up against Phoenix? :hyper:

Dr. Strange would give her quite the fight though, but yes, I agree, ultimately Jean would beat the old surgeon.

Dr. Strange would hand her her ass, assuming we're not talking the full power White Phoenix of the Crown, but the Phoenix we saw before she went Dark.

Dr. Strange is Earth's Sorceror Supreme. He dukes it out with folks on the Phoenix's level constantly, like Dormammu, Mephisto, Nightmare, Eternity, etc. etc.

His abilities are enough to make Galactus himself feel their effects. Hell, Dr. Strange has made Galactus scream in agony. Scream. Just try to think about that for a moment. Dr. Strange is powerful enough to make Galactus feel pain.

It would be a harsh, brutal battle that forces Dr. Strange to use every trick in his arsenal, but I think he would prevail in the end. If it's cosmic-level Phoenix, that is, from the early 80s. The one that's been shown over the past few years, however, really wouldn't hold much of a candle to the Doctor.

The Phoenix is the most powerful force in the universe, the battle would be over before it even started.

You guys don't know Dr. Strange. He's dealt with the Living Tribunal. He'd win.

Hmm...I'd say it would depend on the current Phoenix avatar, and Dr. Strange's current arsonal.

It's a toss up.

But I'd say Dr. Strange for the win, cause Phoenix avatars can be killed, and have been killed by alot less powerful people than the Doctor.

Dr. But Jean would just come back again anyway.

Not nessacarily, she hasn't come back yet. We have more of a chance of Celeste, Rachel, or Quintin as Phoenix than Jean. It looks like Marvel is sticking with the trend of keeping the dead as dead-thing.

Besides maybe the Doctor will be there to stop them should they do soemthing evil.

It would be an awsome fight though.

depends who's writing.

they haven't shown many limitations in what Strange can do (except like, control Scarlet Witch)... and the Phoenix is either all-powerful and determined or just all-powerful and totally out of control of itself.

Well people have always said that Jean can kill someone before they can fully form a thought, can he use his 'powers' faster than a thought?

Cyclops post pretty much somes it up. He once made Galactus scream in agony. That's not an easy task. He's the most skilled soceror of the black arts on the planet.

That's the problem with posting vs. fights in the X-Men forum. Most posters in the X-Men forum ONLY read X-Men books if they actually read comicbooks at all, so they have no knowledge of the Marvel Universe outside of the X-Men's secluded corner.

That wasn't pain Galactus was screaming from but torment of the billions and billions of souls he destroy from his quest of eating the planets, pretty sure Dr Strange made Galactus saw all those people he killed. Been awhile since I read that book but pretty sure it was a mental attack Dr Strange did

Physical pain, mental pain, it still hurts. And it still came from Dr. Strange.

Mind you, when Professor Xavier, the strongest psychic on the planet, tried to penetrate Galactus's mind with a massive boost from Magneto, all he achieved was annoying Galactus enough to hit them with a massive blast of energy that was a Galactus equivalent of swatting a fly.

The Phoenix actually fought Galactus at one point and wiped the floor with him if I remember right, while Strange has only "caused him noticable pain". I don't even see how this is a debate, Phoenix eats star systems for snack time, has held the entire universe in her hands at one point, and has been called second only to the "The Creator" by Uatu.

The phoenix can defeat galactus? Wow she's more powerful then i thought she was.

Well to be fair Galactus was extremely weaken at that time, he nearly died until Reed Richards saved him. When Prof X tried to mind read him Galactus was nearly at his full strength, Prof X might had been able to read Galactus mind when he was weaken and that might be why Dr Strange manage to zap him with that spell, at full strength it might not been able to do him harm.

Dark Phoenix was not Jean Grey and is dead.

Phoenix/DarkPhoenix it was, and is Jean Grey herself if you read Uncanny X-men issues #101-#137. 1976-1980.

In issue #137 Uatu aka the watcher has pointed it out. Issue #136 also pointed it out right in the narrative box Yet Jean Grey is Dark phoenix.

And after then it was pointed out that Jean Grey was in a cocoon at the bottom of the ocean while Phoenix stole her identity and acted in her place. Gotta love them retcons.
