Is there going to be any like, express DLC games or stories new players can use to create their choices from then last two games and DLC?

I remember EA did that with the Mass Effect games for Mass Effect 3. Anything like that for Dragon Age?

Are you talking about Genesis?

If so, yes and here it is:

It's magnitudes better than Genesis was and will let you customize your DAO/2 stories going into Inquisition to your liking.

Dragon Age: Inquisition : The Last Court to Bridge Dragon Age 2 and DAI

Posted Nov 01, 2014

Failbetter Studios has announced that it is working in conjunction with Bioware for a text-based adventure game that will bridge the time gap between the end of Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Players will be able to form alliances, gather financial resources and more as a minor marquis leading a town in Orlais. Events participated in will have a bearing on Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Delicious everyone: we are delighted to reveal The Last Court: the fruits of our collaboration with Bioware.

The Last Court is a very Failbettery game - text-based, story-driven - set in the Dragon Age world just prior to Dragon Age: Inquisition. As the Huntress or the Scholar you will guide the fortunes of Serault, a disgraced corner of Orlais, through the most crucial period of her history. Will you redeem her ancient Shame? Or will she pass into obscurity?

When it goes live, you'll be able to access The Last Court via the Dragon Age Keep.
Several fan streamers got a firsthand look at The Last Court and have produced preview videos. Check out the one below.

Text adventure The Last Court ties Dragon Age 2, Inquisition

Failbetter Games, the studio behind Sunless Sea and a virtual cornucopia of text adventure games, has partnered with BioWare to create The Last Court: a text-based game that promotes you to ruler of Serault, a small township located within the nation of Orlais.

As the marquis, you'll need to manage threats both physical and fiscal, forging alliances and interacting with major characters from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. Players will be able to choose the Huntress or Scholar archetype for their character, giving themselves a boost to physical or mental stats, respectively. If you're not too keen on playing the medieval fantasy version of Parks and Recreation, here's some added incentive: The Last Court will connect the events of Dragon Age 2 to the forming of The Inquisition, the driving force behind Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Failbetter did not announce precisely when The Last Court would go live, but when it does, you'll be able to access it via the Dragon Age Keep - a website where you can sync and customize your personal saga through BioWare's universe. A first-look video is available after the break.

Sweet, thanks for the help. But I will aim to play the first 2 games to get the full experience first. I'll keep the....keep, in mind.:woot:

Make sure you remember what save you want for the keep then cause you have to select them for the keep via memory of your own.

You need to remember that DAI will not have direct save game imports from the previous games, it will all be carried out using Keep. This is to help with console generation and format changes, as well as save game bugs in the previous games. The Keep will create your World State that you will import into DAI to reflect your decisions from the first two games. Also Bioware have said that they plan to add more choices into the Keep, so if they make a DLC that requires the game to know a choice made in a previous game that the Keep does not currently record then they can just add it in.

Also when you have made your choices you can have the story narrated to you by Varric, which is cool :yay:

Dragon Age: Inquisition gameplay — the first few hours

Tom and I recently played the first few hours of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Soon after, we locked ourselves into a small room to talk about combat, quests and bewildering lore. This is that chat.
Elsewhere on the site, Tim was more positive about the game's opening. You can read his impressions here, and his interview with executive producer Mark Darrah here.
Dragon Age: Inquisition is due out 18 November. Expect our full review next week

So if I want my choices from past games to be ported into Dragon Age 3, I have to use The Keep?

How has the fandom at large taken to such a feature? I'd imagine some wouldn't be happy having to use an online feature to import saves.

How else would you import it? Especially going from last gen to current-gen?

Not everyone is. I think it does stem from it being an outside source and relies on people having access to a computer and the internet. Admittedly it's not a big concern for a lot of people these days, but there will still be a fair portion of the consumer base that doesn't have ready access to those.

Though I'm not sure if they are offering a work around by importing it onto USB. I suspect they may since they'll want to offer some means for those without access to the net themselves access to a feature that's fairly important to the game.

How else would you import it? Especially going from last gen to current-gen?

Well considering that both Dragon Age games was automatically hooked up to EA/Bioware's servers if you had internet access they always had access to your saves (though you could choose to opt out). If you check the Bioware Social Network you could check your characters from any play through.

The plan for the keep was to originally sync your save to the tapestry and reflect your decisions in-game, but they gave up on that and now all you get is to upload your character, which only really gives you the name and face you gave them.

You now have to fill out every decision yourself regardless if you're using a default hero or one from a save. Though I imagine this is in part due to the fact that Bioware could never get the save import system of carrying over player decisions right in the first place when it was on the same generation.

Now I feel conflicted as to whether or not I should play the last 2 games. The Keep sounds like the ultimate express story creator. Idk now...

Well the keep is in open Beta right now and the game is about two weeks from release. You could try a play through of both before release or try out the keep for yourself if you like.

Though I have to say that not every decision is actually represented in the keep at the moment. It's still in Beta, even if it is an open one, but I would expect that they've certainly laid down the decisions that will affect Inquisition's world state by now. So while it's not a complete picture of the previous games, it will likely be mostly what is needed for the new game at the moment.

A pretty crazy amount of choices are in the Keep though. The opening narration seems to primarily be for people who have never played a DA game before but the Tapestry (the advanced mode) is really in depth.

If you've never played Origins you should definitely just play it on the basis of it being one of Bioware's best games.

And knowing more about what happened will let you make more informed choices in the Keep. The Tapestry gets pretty involved as I mentioned, DA2 had become a blur for me so I had to go through it with a wiki open to try and remember what was what.

EA/Bioware recorded data for information collection purposes but they didn't actually store any saves on their end. There were also restrictions apparently on having things like cross-gen/cross-platform saves as well that they couldn't get around.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure on how much info the gathered from our games. Though they did attempt, for a short period, to implement our choices into the actual tapestry itself before they opted for name, face, gender and class only.

  • Dragon Age: The Last Court is now available to play

  • Remember Dragon Age: The Last Court, the free browser-based adventure/RPG thingy from the wonderful Failbetter Games? Your memory is terrible—I mean, I only wrote about it last week. Past Me said that it was going to be added to (exhaustive choice questionnaire tool) Dragon Age Keep in "just over a week", and here were are, just over a week later, and it has. It's lovely when things go to plan like that. The game isn't telegraphed especially well inside BioWare's browser app, but if you login to The Keep and click on the little menu icon in the top left, one of the options is to play The Last Court. With Inquisition not out until the 18th, it might be a good way to get your Dragon Age on while you wait.

  • See that guy up there? That's a Qunari wearing an eyepatch, which is something you don't see every day. Admittedly I don't see Qunari most days, but I'd be more inclined to remember one featuring a beard and a shiny eyepiece.
BioWare are introducing us to The Iron Bull in the second of their 'meet the cast' trailers (the first one said 'howdy' to mage Vivienne). Where Viv relied on a big stick and her magical talents to best enemies, iron butterfly makes use of a giant greataxe, which is definitely a solid Plan B. The YouTube blurb describes The Iron Bull as "a powerful Qunari warrior, and leader of the Bull’s Chargers, a famous network of mercenaries. With his immense strength, and enthusiasm for crushing enemies, he provides necessary muscle to the Inquisition".
It's a safe bet that we can expect a trailer for most, if not all of Dragon Age: Inquisition's companions. After you're done with this one, have a watch of this video where Phil and Tom talk about their impressions of the game's first few hours.
Phil's review will be going live on the 11th of November, while Inquisition will release a week later on the 18th.

Well the reviews have been pouring in. Looks like it's a good game. Most of them give around a 9/10. It seems it has fixed a lot of DAII's problems. Everyone says it's gameplay is top notch. With great RPG depth, and a great full world. Can't wait!

Sounds great! I've never played a Dragon age game. Should i start with the first one?

Origins is great, very similar to KOTOR. DA2 got a lot of hate when it first came out, but it's not bad if you adjust your expectations. You can only play as a human, there are fewer companions (especially ones who are likable), and the first act is kind of boring. I recommend playing a female mage if you play it, I was more engaged with the story than my male warrior in the first play through.
