If Goku is going to become a legend at the end of a trilogy or however many movies they make he should start off in the first movie saving Earth from Piccolo with an ending similar to that of Star War 4.

If Goku is constantly saving the Earth he should get huge recognition like Superman would. The people of Earth should care when he dies. Since characters should arc in a movie so should the people of Earth- they should be treated like a character too.

The dragon ball Earth should be distinct from our Earth. It should not give people any reason to think its a futuristic or alternate version of our Earth. This can be fixed by showing baby Goku's journey from Planet Vegeta to DB Earth. He would enter a solar system with a different number of planets with different looks and sizes. Closing in on DB Earth we would see that it has different geography from our own.
Another aspect that can be fixed is removing any regular looking airplanes, boats, homes guns, etc.. that we have on our Earth.
All modes of transportation should have that capsule corp look to them like Bulma's motorcycle in episode 1.
Buildings/homes should only have that unique look to them like in the show which means Grandpa Gohan's house should change. Or maybe his house is one of the few homes/places that shouldn't change like temples because the narrator mentioned in episode 1 something along the lines that it was in a place untouched by the ravages of time.
There might be other aspects in the show that are similar on our Earth aside from they look and talk like us but the ones I mentioned are just a few examples.

i like your idea about Goku approaching Dragon Earth, but i honestly wouldn't want them to reveal that he's a Saiyan until the end of part 1 at the earliest. us fans know all about Goku but the revelation of Goku as a Saiyan would be a nice little surprise for those who haven't been exposed or are unfamiliar with the series.

i think they should start the movie off establishing Gohan and his house, maybe even a small farm just to further show that he's in an area unchanged my time (like you said). being that Goku's ship would be technologically advanced, it would be able to touch down without creating any disturbance. Goku could wander around and stumble across Gohan doing his daily martial arts routine and etc, etc.

as for Dragon Earth, i actually think it should resemble Earth quite a bit. it's clear to me that the map of Dragon Earth is based on the continents of Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia. i'd actually throw in an American-like continent as well. this "Earth" however, would be ours on steroids. the jungles are like Avatar/Skull Island (from King Kong), which could even give room for the possibility to keep the dinosaurs and the cities are like Neo Tokyo, 5th Element's, and Speed Racer's. much like 5th Element, it would also have limited interplanetary relations and travel, which would explain talking creatures (not necessarily animals).

I've been reading people's comments on Dragon Ball: Evolution before and after it came out on other forums and there's something I don't understand. Some people say that staying true to the anime or the manga is impossible or unrealistic because the original content is "too out there". While I agree that there should be some changes like not mixing regular animals with dinosaurs and talking animals. But when people start mentioning aspects like Goku's tail, Bulma's hair and talking animals in general I don't understand where their coming from. With all the sci-fi and fantasy movies out there that people have enjoyed out the years aspects of Dragon Ball like the ones I mentioned are too hard to swallow in comparison?
not really...the trick is getting someone who's ambitious and confident enough to tackle this franchise and bring it up to today's standards of sci fantasy. it seems no credible writers or directors are up for the job. the only one was Stephen Chow and i'd wager that Fox turned him off to directing the film, so he just took a back seat at producer.

a direct translation of Dragon Ball would be horrid, but faithful, as well as critically and financially successful, Dragon Ball based movie is TOTALLY possible.

if this acceptable in this world, then there's no reason why an adventurous, geeky teenage girl couldn't have blue hair either.

I'd have 3 movies filmed closely
3+ hrs in length

First movie - dragonball (child actor in lead role) journey to the west style asian epic
second movie - dragonball z (adult actor) epic space opera
third movie - dragonball gt (same child actor as first) western

Please, no GT, ever. GT was such a bad and terrible successor series to Z.

I agree DorkyFresh that Goku shouldn't be revealed to be a saiyan in the first movie.

I think that a little more info on who King Piccolo is should be given in the first movie. Even though he isn't revealed to be one half of Kami or an alien until the Piccolo Jr. Saga it should be mentioned that he isn't an actual demon or another strange looking creature from the planet because the general audience might think so. Maybe show part of the Lookout where King Piccolo can take form then descend on Earth just after Kami separates into two (which we wouldn't see).

I'm kinda confused DorkyFresh is your vision of DB Earth really our Earth?

It's to do with stereotyping. Think of it as visual shorthand. It's kind of like how when a show decides to have a doctor, he's typically shown in either scrubs or a lab coat (despite the latter never being used while the former is only used in theatre); unless the show is specifically about doctors or features several of them (and even then, it's still likely to be the case). Likewise, in a world where most people have black, brown, blonde and red hair, someone with unnatural hair colour is typically seen as a raver/party-goer type of character; which doesn't quite fit Bulma's character. So, the only way for Bulma to get blue hair and not look weird is to set it in a world where lots of people have unnatural hair colours. And it has to be apparent in the main cast. Given the hair colour of most named human characters in DB, that's not the case.

Can someone sum up why King Piccolo makes a good villain?

Also where does he rank for you in a list of best dragonball/z/gt villains? If he doesn't rank in the top 3 would could be improved about his character that would get him there?

I just finished watching the entire dragonball series.

The whole time I was waiting to see if Goku would learn how to fly or charge up like in DBZ but he didn't. He did charge up his spiritual energy though in the Piccolo Jr. Saga but nothing like what we see in DBZ. Perhaps this a piece of DBZ that they can put into a Dragonball movie.

As for the dinosaurs, I think they can be left out seeing how they only appear six times maximum.

The only character I would leave out is Oolong because I found him annoying and two of his characteristics his shape-shifting ability and pervertedness can be already found in Puar and Roshi. I would change Turtle so that he's just a regular turtle who doesn't talk. But that would change the whole aspect of how Goku gets his Nimbus Cloud. Chi-Chi's look should change since she looks like a child version of Slave Leia and I don't think that would go over well with the public.

King Piccolo's sons might have to get a name change because their actually names might be too cheesy in a live action movie. Also King Piccolo should be a bigger badass because I found him more scary when mentioned in Roshi's flashback story.

To me Piccolo should be alot like Akuma from the Street Fighter series, he should look intimidating

glad you came around ;)

no, not exactly like our Earth...but a planet similar to our Earth. again, think of our Earth on steroids. the jungles would be like King Kong/Avatar and the cities would be like 5th Element/Speed Racer.

One scene I would like played out that never happened is where one of the good guys actually makes the wish for Shenron to get rid of King Piccolo and Shenron attempts to do so. I guess the dragon has to fail because Goku has to be the one to defeat King Piccolo.

That would be an interesting idea.

I was thinking about a movie--the 3rd as far as my earlier ideas for a 1st movie go--set on Namek covering the Freeza saga. I think I'd make Namek look like a Nazi-occupied area, with camps set up for Namekian prisoners and overall just a really horrifying place. The Ginyus would be in charge, and I think I'd have much of Freeza's force be saiyans who were brainwashed--really brainwashed; it was covered in a Psychology course I took and the process sounds quite frightening--in order to make us hate Freeza all the more.

Piccolo would leave for Namek at the end of movie 2 after the ordeal with Vegeta and Nappa. When the heroes reach the planet, they'd discover Piccolo, Guru and other Namekians acting as underground freedom fighters of sorts.

One thing I would change is bringing characters back from the dead via wishes...I would not allow that, simply because the others can simply say "well, fire up the dragon radar and let's get our buddies back..."

In order to tie this 3rd movie to my 1st, I would have Piccolo explaining the reason for his father's actions--his father being Demon King Piccolo--and pursuit of the dragon balls was to square off against Kami. DK Piccolo would've wanted Kami to merge with him once again. This "whole" version of Piccolo would've then returned to Namek where the saiyans were infiltrating the culture as "plants" be Freeza prior to his invasion.

I can't figure out a credible motivation for Freeza to be hunting for the dragon balls, though. Immortality, yes, but why?

So Mr. Wooden Alligator your 3rd dragonball movie is like Schindler's List...in space.

If King Piccolo just wants to merge with Kami to leave for his home planet and help out instead of wanting to wreak havoc on Earth with this new power it doesn't sound like he's a villain anymore.

Is your 1st point good or bad? I've never seen Schindler's List; I was thinking about how to go out with a bang to conclude the trilogy while making a dark movie.

On your 2nd point, I think its all in the methods King Piccolo uses to obtain the dragon balls. My idea is he's using the RR Army as a ruthless killing machine to eliminate those in his way. We would see this during the movie as well, not simply be told that the RR Army is killing innocents in their search for the dragon balls.

That aside, what is your opinion as far as whether or not the ideas are good or bad?

My first point is neither good or bad. I saw the "high concept" - the single core idea- and thought to mention it.

I really like your idea of a 3rd movie. It really grounds the story in something familiar instead of just making it about something where the audience can't connect with what is going on.
This kind of approach with should be applied to the other dragonball movies. If Freiza is like Hitler than who would King Piccolo and Vegeta embody?

Also should a trilogy have an overarching villain like in Star Wars and the Last Airbender movie instead of individual villains per movie?

If George Lucas shouldn't direct a dragon ball movie I think he should still be part of it somehow because it looks like something he would understand. Look at the capsule corp vehicles and the cities, their like something out of Star Wars. Also all the humanoid animals/creatures are nothing short of what he filled the world of Star Wars with.

If Fox says 'this and that won't work' I think George Lucas is the guy who would say that it would and get the production moving in the right direction.

I think the look of Shenron should change so that he looks like the Namekian dragon he is like Porunga. When you think about it why does he look like an eastern dragon aside from Akira might have chosen him to look like that when Porunga doesn't? Since there doesn't seem to be anything eastern about Namek or its people, Shenron's look should have leeway to change.

When I talk about making Shenron look more Namekian I don't mean he should look bulky like Porunga. Keep Shernon's same length and color while making changes elsewhere.

dude it's dbz-everything should look bulky :oldrazz:

But I'm saying Shenron just to look more Namekian shouldn't take up the bulky look of Porunga. This might be dumb but what about instead of Shenron's regular horns have him sport Namekian antennae?

Dragonball Evolution

Very cheesy for the most part but Jamie Chung is smoking hot!!!

Scale of 1-10 a 2 but JAMIES A 10:

If I were to do a DBZ movie, I make it a trilogy spanning from Saiyan saga to Freiza saga.

The first movie would be the entire Saiyan saga, 3 hrs in length. Each hour would focus on a specific event. For example, Act 1 (radditz), Act 2 (training), Act 3 (goku vs vegeta and nappa). Of course I would trim the fat from the story to fit it in 3 hrs, but I think this'll be the best way to go.

i can totally see where you're coming from, but think about this-not even piccolo had antennae in dbe (which wasn't necessarily that bad)

But if they do a reboot and have King Piccolo actually sporting antennae then it would make sense if Shenron had them as well.

If King Piccolo is one half of Kami how come he never knew about the dragon balls without Pilaf telling him?
If they change that and KP does know he could have found some before he was contained by Mutaito. Then when he escapes the jar he continues his quest to find the remaining dragon balls alongside whatever evil plan he has.

Isn't Dragonball: Reborn happening? I saw it was listed on imdb.com, but details were at IMDB PRO.
