If Pilaf is not in a reboot to let King Piccolo out and not one else can fit the bill one suggestion I have is, make KP's first world conquest take place in present time instead of when Master Roshi was younger.
By taking this route, the shame of failing in front of his students, his self-exile and the creation of the Evil Containment Wave can fall on Master Roshi's shoulder's instead of Mutaito's. In addition to failing in front of his students, Master Roshi can fail in front of his fans too at... the tournament, which would be a nice little way of fitting it in the movie.
Fans of the manga would you be able to accept this change?

IMO those are just useless details...they should just make a movie with tons of martial arts and cgi. They should also stay true to the story....buuut not in that way rofl...i mean we should have the main characters and the basic plot with a few inspired changes

How many differences are there between the manga and the anime?

From what I've read there's alot less stopping to chew the fat. Not as much bulls***, less of the talking during battle... they're doing Dragon Ball Kai in the spirit of the manga. It's just more fastpaced.

I'm going to put it out there and say that a faithful DBZ film would be ridiculously stupid. I watched the show the other day and as much as I love the series...it wouldn't suit well on the big screen. The dialogue is extremely corny and cheesy.

I can see the visual department having a great time with a DBZ movie, but let it be as one of the best manga cartoons ever.

dbz has always beenmy favorite show. since even before I saw a single episode. (by the time I got cable gt was on) but if they did amovie based on the first half of the series I wouldn't mind them changing/combining multiple dragoon ball hunting story-lines into 1. like for instance, we can skip the first couple of wishes like oolongs wish for panties, and allot of other stuff. I still think it would need to be 2 movies for the first half of dragon ball. now, when i say changes, i mean mostly changes to shorten/condence it. I'm not open to them trying to make it some modern day real world futuristic crap like b4. just them cutting out redundancies to speed it up a bit so we can get to z. (pre z)

but to be honest I would rather just start with z first and do dragon ball as a prequel after either the cell or frieza saga. we need some good z movies b4 they try to figure out how to do a dragon ball movie. I don't wan't to wait like 20 years to see vegeta and frieza on the big screen.

and finally, on the other hand I would be fine if the never even tried to make a movie of this. drz kai is already the perfect screen adaption of the manga. we have something great to watch that doesn't take 300 episodes to finish the story.

Honestly I'd rather do that too. The series should start with Z. They already screwed themselves over with the Dragon Ball series because of DB:E.

Ah, I've been liking Dragon Ball Kai. I love it. Its shorter and faster paced. I approve

You know who should bring Dragonball to the theatres..............

ZACH SHYNDER

**** yeah

The Washouiscky brothers should bring dragon ball to the cinema, they could use great fight scennes like those of the matrix trilogy and use the worlds and colours of speed racer, that would be really cool.

so I've been watching dbz kai and all, but does anybody know if they're making dragonball kai? like a kai version of the first half of the story where goku's a kid?

I think they´re not, which is unfortunate since that is also a great era from dragon Ball

Alot of people were furious about how Krillin never showed up in DB:E and even questioned the writer and director for having even watched the show or read the manga when technically he wasn't even suppose to be in the first movie.
Yes, Krillin showed up in the Dragon Ball series, but specifically he never shows up until the first quest for the dragon balls is over.

On a side note, are there any characters from dragon ball that you wouldn't mind being left out in a reboot?

I'm starting to agree on the thought that DBZ should never move into live action. There are a ton of anime that could more easily be brought to the bigscreen. Trigun, Cowboy Bebop (I don't really want it though, this is my favorite anime, don't ruin it), any of the Gundams, Afro Samurai... hell, let Inuyasha replace Twilight. Personally I'd love to see Samurai Champloo, if it was done 100% faithful.

anybody wanna vote on the thread in my sig?

I'm inclined to agree with Silver Knight.

seeing sucker punch trailer i think it can be done in the hands of Zack Snyder

Stephen Chow NEEDS to direct a DB for it to own... he is the perfect choice to make a great DB movie IMO but he only directs his own stuff : (
