no, most definitely not. I think hrithik roshan would make a great piccolo.

If this isn't a resume to direct a real live action DBZ movie, I don't know what is.

Creed III Director Michael B. Jordan Wanted It To Be Anime AF

I think it was in one of the Avengers threads where, after saying my suggestion of Secret Wars would be too big for him to do next, I suggested he direct the Armor Wars film, since that doesn’t seem to have a director yet. He’s a Gundam Wing fan and could bring a lot of that Mecha flair to the suit fights. I imagine Rhodey’s going to have his hands full and be on the ropes for a lot of that film, and Jordan seems to be a really big fan of directing/playing underdogs in films.

Now see a Gundam Wing movie, live action could work. Because like you said it's really the look of how you do the Mobile Suits and the action and such.

But something like DBZ is just different to translate.

Well, Goku isn't human, so he technically doesn't have to be Asian. Same goes for pretty much every other alien in the franchise.

I think all of the humans have to be/should be portrayed by Asian actors, though. I don't remember if there are any exceptions to that rule.

Not so sure about that...
True he is an alien but given how the character was based on the Chinese and Buddhist mythology deity, (the name is literally the same, as the writing in kanji is also the same, 孫悟空,...Son Goku in Japanese language and Sun Wu Kong in Chinese language), and most elements in the story has borrowed heavily into Eastern Asian sphere...I think pretty much you have to cast Goku (and his family) to be an East Asian.

The only major non Asian character in DB is Bulma, and no.18, I think.
The major alien characters like Piccolo, Furiza or Cell are more open, though...for any races.

And I must add...the name of Yamcha, Tenshinhan also based on Chinese cuisine, haha.

Muten Roshi (Kame-sennin) is also based on Chinese myth deity.

Toriyama-sensei really put many Eastern Asian culture/elements in the story, which perhaps for many fans in the West didnt notice or aware if you aren't familiar with it...so yeah, it only makes sense if there is ever a plan to adapt this into live action....Hollywood should at least respect it.

Dragonball is too goofy for the live action treatment. If you try to do a direct adaptation, it's going to be unintentionally funny. If you try and ground the designs, the fan boys that take the series too seriously are gonna be ********. I'd say keep doing Super movies. This doesn't need a live action adaptation.

Same with One Piece...and pretty much most of Shounen Jump's fantasy action manga/anime titles out there, with the exception of the more grounded story like Slam Dunk or RuroKen.

The key of adapting any of Japanese property like this is you have to GET and understand the spirit and the core of the theme as well as the story. You just cannot do it just because of the trend or just because you love watching the anime or the manga, without ever understanding the message or the theme behind the story.

That mentality is what gets us many bad adaptations like Dragon Ball Evolutions, Bleach, and Full Metal Alchemist, etc. (Notice that some of them was made by our very own Japanese production, so I won't say that any adaptation of Japanese manga/anime has to be made by Japanese company whatsoever as that is not a guaranteed to be a successful/good adaptation as few above are already showed).
so, if there is someone out there in Hollywood who happens to GET the theme and the spirit, then by all means...do it! With the proper budget as well!
As long as they don't take too many liberties with it, like making it too "Westerny" like the Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac) live action has shown, as it could potentially lose the spirit and the theme of the story. And usually I don't take any issue with this stuff as much as many in the US, but like I already pointed out, for title like Dragon Ball , given the background behind the creation of this world and its character (Goku in particular), which heavily borrowed and inspired by Eastern Asian sphere, I think you have to include those elements in the story as well as to cast Goku and his family as no other than East Asian.

Anyway, sorry for the long post...that's my take on this. Haha.
