Not only that, it has the most approachable concept of all possible anime adaptations, very well-written, can be PG-13, can be turned into 3-5 movie, since there's enough material...

I don't think I could ever see a Cowboy Bebop movie and be OK with it.

If anything ever got adapted, I think it should be properties like Fullmetal Alchemist because there is a youth angle, set in a 19th century western European like setting. That way you can avoid all the white-washing complaints all together.

I don't know if Evangelion could ever be done justice in a live action format, but if we are going with adapting mecha works after Pacific Rim, then I'd love for Gundam/Zeta Gundam to be adapted like GoT on HBO.

Evangelion can't be done justice in live action. IMHO, it's impossible. Quite frankly, it was hard for it to be done justice as an anime ;) .

But it'll get the "no diversity" complaints all the same in all likelihood. Race-change someone like Mary Jane = "So progressive, a character's race shouldn't matter!", race-change Major = "Oh my God, being Asian is ESSENTIAL to the character, they're white-washing everything!".

i dont understand that smirk at the end of the gif. how does this fit with the character that the trailer presents?

beacause this is what Johansson does....in all movies.

I can't not see that neck muscle bulging out when she smirks.

Now from what I can tell

Spike = Either Japanese or Jew based on how you want to look at it seeing as how Spike's apparently modeled after the late Yusaku Matsuda in appearance but also has influences from Clint Eastwood's Sergio Leone character and Bob Dylan to a degree.

Obviously the implications of him being Jewish largely come from his last name being Spiegel and the particular gun he uses. So for me, either have someone akin to Joesph Gordon Levitt or Takeshi Kaneshiro play Spike.

However Faye Valentine is canonically from Singapore and was intended to wear a kimon in earlier designs for her so I'd say she's Asian and should stay that way.

However, the ones I feel should unanimously be white are Jet Black, Vicious, Ed and Julia.

Spike's father or mother must have been German. His last name is Spiegel.

I want Trigun with Cowboy Bebop and Akira. I think after Battle Angel Alita comes out and does well, Trigun could certainly be likely on Hollywood's list. Or smaller title like Desert Punk.

I do want to see Neon Genesis Evangelion on big screen. Pacific Rim did show you could make great Neon Genesis Evangelion movie. Instead Devil Men I would go Berserk as another interesting concept. But again hard rated R is must. From other titles, Fullmetal Alchemist comes in mind where you could go, or Attack on Titan if you want to go full blockbuster.

All those titles happening somewhere else and they arent connected to japanese culture or characters are japanese (beside mikasa in AoT). Casting wouldnt be problem, characters are good and deep, storyline also and all have potential to be great movies.

I could definitely see Fullmetal Alchemist being a successful multi film franchise. Berserk would probably be more appropriate for a HBO-type television series.

The real life Spike Spiegel should play Spike and his name is Spike Jonze.

Well, hopefully if this is successful it will mean more anime's being made into life action.

As a kid used to love Guyver, Devil Man, Fist Of The North Star and Patlabor

Naruto will happen 100% if this does well. I'm not a fan of long posts to expain why I think this but Arad has been involved with production I.G and ghost in the shell a long time publicly. You can find that stuff easily but he's also apparently been associated with Naruto for while as well but he rarely rarely ever mentions it.

Nobody really picked up on this and honestly I believe many have no idea he's even involved with naruto, which he is!

ok I believe back in 2008 avi arad brokered the deal for a live action ghost in the shell between dreamworks/paramount and production I.G who themselves acquired the rights from kodansha in 2007.

I'm going to assume arad played a similar role and was probably heavily involved in lionsgate's acquisition of Naruto's live action rights seeing as he met with masashi kishimoto the creator of Naruto a year before the lionsgate movie news dropped back in 2015.

Also in an interview with a japanese publication he was asked about what manga he was interested in making into movies he mentioned ghost in the shell and Naruto and refused to talk about anything else. That was nearly 3 years ago, ghost in the shell is about to drop. Lionsgate is starved for a franchise, hunger games is over, divergent series is a flop and all they have now is hopes in power rangers.

If ghost in the shell succeeds that naruto movie is getting fast tracked at lionsgate especially if power rangers flops.

I really hate writing long posts.

Or maybe a mixed breed. However I do consider that "Jew" as a religion and Jew as an ethnicity aren't mutually exclusive so he can easily be mixed Japanese and German. According to Watanabe, he just thought Spike Spiegel was a cool name but one could assume that there could be more to it than just that. Point is overall, the line between Spike being Asian and/or Caucasian is surprisingly Super debatable based on canon info.

Just say Jewish man.

the Thermostic pistol looks killer I love the future weapons in this

The idea of Kusanagi never smiling, telling jokes or showing levity is a fallacy. She was not above moments of mirth in Stand Alone Complex at all. In Stand Alone Complex, she was never afraid to get flirty. As for wearing makeup, she did frequently get dolled up and wore fancy outfits when she would go on undercover ops.

Just remember guys. At the end of the day she's a cop. Also, she is a cyborg, but she's also still a human by birth. She still has feelings and emotions. In the comics and anime series she was bisexual. In the anime series she had multiple girlfriends. She wasn't some emotionless, stoic robot. She had her own personal life off of work where she liked to settle down and enjoy her off time. She would even go out drinking with Batou and co, even though cyborgs can't really get drunk.

Most people have this view of Ghost in the Shell that's really solely based off the movies. Don't get me wrong, the movies are very good, however they are not the be all end all for Ghost in the Shell. There's a lot of other material out there. The Major is barely even a character in Innocence. It's really Batou's story.

The original movie is good and iconic, don't get me wrong. But it's also very short, with a threadbare story. There's not a whole lot there. Stand Alone Complex actually opened the whole world up and incorporated more of the concepts from Shirow's manga and actually gave the other Section 9 members personalities and backstories. I think we barely even learn anything about Togusa at all in the original movie, and he barely does anything in it either.

Yep. Oshii himself says that when he makes a movie he prioritises visuals over story, and story over character.

In my book, that's a flaw. And it's wrong if you are basing your view of Major Motoko Kusanagi solely off of the two anime films.

I get that people consider the original 1995 movie a classic, and that's fine. But for my money, it's not the definitive adaptation of the source material. That remains Stand Alone Complex.

Arise is OK, but it's failed to really wow me. That version of Kusanagi is a complete and utter letdown. Stand Alone Complex is what truly broke the mold and show what you can really do with this material.

The only one I haven't seen yet is the "New Movie".

Is that the one that followed Arise?

Personally I've never had the expectation this movie had to be done one way or the other, I've read and watched so many different versions of ghost in the shell which are all very different from each other it would unfair to hold this adaptation to some kind of standard.

I've seen alot of the trailer missed the point and this is a mashup bastardization...etc If you'd read the original manga you could make the same argument for every single iteration including the 1995 movie.

This is just my opinion but I'm ok with this being it's own thing, Arise deviated alot and nobody complained.
