Justin Theroux (“The Girl on the Train,” “The Leftovers”) is set to join Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgard in the Duncan Jones-directed science-fiction thriller “Mute” at Liberty Films and Netflix.
Set forty decades in the future in Berlin, Skarsgard is portraying a mute bartender in what has become a roiling city of immigrants.
Searching for a woman who has disappeared, he finds himself in the city’s underbelly with an odd pair of American surgeons seem to be the only recurring clue.
Jones and Mike Johnson penned the script while Jones and Stuart Fenegan will produce.

Florence Kasumba who played Black Panther's bodyguard Ayo in Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming solo film has joined the cast.

Gilbert Owuor from True Blood and The Newsroom has also joined the cast.

Glad Jones is getting back to sci-fi. Judging by the reception to Warcraft it seems sci-fi is what he is best at.

Warcraft was a hard shoot for him. His wife got breast cancer during pre-prdocution (and survived. During her chemo, they got married which was very sweet.)

Then his legendary dad died during post-production. :(

EMPIRE magazine February 2017 has the first look images

looking very neon noir

I hope it's just the early draft if it's meh. I read the God Particle first draft and wow, it was not polished at all. Felt like a lot of the dialogue was just 'fillers', then the later drafts would work on the lines. So we'll see.

Jones has had Mute on the back burner for years so I would expect him to of refined the film by the time he filmed it.

The 2009 version of the script is online.
it's not particularly dynamic but has decent bones that hopefully got fleshed out in later drafts.

If there is a newer version of the script I'd love to read it.

Set in the near-future, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) is a bartender living in the pulsing city of Berlin. Because of a childhood accident, Leo lost the ability to speak and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh). When she vanishes without a trace, Leo’s search for her takes him deep into the city’s seedy underbelly. A pair of wise-cracking American surgeons (Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux) are the only recurring clue and Leo is forced to take on this teeming underworld in order to find his love.

The Netflix original film is directed by Duncan Jones and written by Jones and Michael Robert Johnson. Stuart Fenegan serves as producer and Charles J.D. Schissel and Trevor Beattie serve as executive producers. The film will launch in all territories where Netflix is available in 2017.

I hadn't known that this was heading straight to Netflix. Might not be the worst thing. It will get in front of a lot of eyeballs and a.lot of Netflix originals have gotten a massive response.

So this was scored by Clint Mansell early this summer and now looks like it has been getting test screenings. No word on a release date though.

Ok. I've heard the @Mute score by @iamclintmansell enough times to be able to say it may well be as good as the Moon score.

Experience so far with @mute... some people cry because they love it so much, some people actively hate it.
Gonna be a fun ride!

Has there been a trailer for this? Did I miss it?

I don't think so :) Netflix release, right? They usually release those late

I'm very excited that there's been no trailer or teaser and the movie is coming out next month.

on the other hand, the movie might not even been made had it not been for Netflix, I hope Duncan Jones made a good one.

Not sure what you mean? I am not demeaning Netflix, if that is what you think. I simply now understand the lack of marketing so far.

Annihilation and Mute in the same month?
