Fantasy Dungeons & dragons movie discussion

Solomon got the film off the ground as a guy who had no real contacts or experience in the movie industry. Including rights to film in more scenic places in the Czech Republic. I give him kudos for that and would consider him as a potential I'd have no reservations of having him work the movie from the buisness end, dealing with suppliers and employees and the etceteras of making a film.

The man has some measure of competence and a helluva lot of get u and go. Just restrain him in the Creativity sections.

I agree. He's great at getting financial backing, finding set locations, etc. He just can't write, direct, or DM worth s#!t.

I was curious as to whether or not the planned 3rd film of the trilogy was happening so I googled it last night. There wasn't very much info on the subject, mostly just old news and reviews on the first two films, but there were a couple of sites that claimed that the 3rd film has been greenlit. About all they had to report was that and Bruce Payne and the guy who played Berek in the second film (I think his name's Tom Dymond) have both agreed to reprise their roles from the earlier movies. As for writer, director, plot, etc, your guess is as good as mine.

I think Dungeons & Dragons needs to be remade. Keep the characters the same, but just write the whole movie with a more serious tone and a better plot. Hopefully have it written by someone who actually understands the source material. Here are my casting choices . . .

Of course the original sucked all kinds of bad, so the remake will have to go through a whole Rob Zombie style rewrite. Hell, I'd even ask Rob Zombie to write the script! Doing to the original Dungeons & Dragons movie what he did to the Halloween movies would just be an improvement in my opinion (ie: what ruined Halloween would in fact improve Dungeons & Dragons).

If the remake of Dungeons & Dragons is successful, then they can remake the sequel. Since the writing of Dungeons & Dragons II was vastly superior to the original, I would simply make a few minor adjustments to the script and recast it with known stars. Here are my casting choices . . .

Dungeons & Dragons II: Wrath Of The Dragon God

Has anyone seen either of these two movies? I have the Dragonlance one at home and rather enjoy it. I haven't been able to find a copy of The Scourge Of Worlds at any video stores though. I may have to special order it. Either that or get it through eBay.

OH! A new casting suggestion for Venger! I can't belive I didn't think of suggesting this before!

IMO this movie deserves a reboot. :) Gett a better writer, director and production company. They should even use the playable races either 3.5 or 4e rules. Now should they a new D&D world or an already published world like Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dark Sun or Greyhawk or even 4e world?

I totally agree that the movie deserves a reboot. It certainly needs a new writer. Maybe a new director. The production company I have less problems with. The production values of the first movie were pretty good, but the writing was horrendous. The directing could've been better, but wasn't as bad as the writing.

As for the characters, maybe make some more of them different races. They did all right with the races in the original. There was an elf, a dwarf, and the rest were humans. Maybe make Snails a halfling or something.

As for the world, while the first movie didn't specify any particular D&D world, in the second movie they did use several referances from the Greyhawk campaign setting. So it was indirectly a Greyhawk movie. If it were to be a Dragon Lance or Forgotten Realms movie, then it should probably be based on one of the books or series of books set in those worlds.

And by the way, 4e is set in The Forgotten Realms.

The core books and source books are not set in FR its own world called Points of Light.

Really? I was under the impression that they were using The Forgotten Realms for 4th ed in much the same fashion that they used Greyhawk in 3rd ed. But then, I haven't bought any new D&D material since the core rulebooks of 3.5 ed came out. I dislike much of what was done in 3rd ed, and don't like anything about 4th ed.

Truth be told, I thought Bruce Payne and Thora Birch's performances were just fine . Aside from the pretty spectacular VFX, they were the best part of the whole damn movie. Only thing about Damodar I didn't like was the wardrobe and the make up (whoever though Damodar should dress like a fetish club reject and wear blue lipstick should be shot). But if you're gonna do a remake, that means recasting the whole damn movie, so . . .

I just found out that the wife of one of my coworkers is the niece of the man who provided the voice of venger. Is that freakin' cool or what?

I do have some ideas for a new film adaptation of the original table-top role
-playing game titled: "Dungeons & Dragons". My ideas are that the same characters from the 2000 film plus additional characters and/or characters possibly meant for the 2000 film when it was "a project", however you want to put it, along with its setting, at least a lot of, if not all of "its same storyline 'ideas'", like for instance, "the notion that 'everyone is equal'", two items capable of controlling dragons, "a scepter of 'gold dragon' 'control'" and "a rod of red dragon control", among other ideas. For example: - the ideas from this following link: - http://www.vtap.com/video/%22Dunge...V0lLSTE3NDY1Mw . I could not find what I hoped to find, but it was all I could find. Also, the storyline ideas that you can see in there, I have ideas of combining them with a few other ideas. You can name them all, the ideas that is, if you wish, but let me tell you about the ideas I have for them in another thread. For now, here are at least some of my ideas for the cast and/or the characters, including in birth name and/or extra identity: -
Charlie Tahan as Ridley Freeborn/The Hooded Riddler (More of him in another thread, if you will let me make one)
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...1t:429,r:0,s:0

(S.T.C.UP.W.I.A.T.W.T.C.) as Little Will, the Halfling (I have an idea for another name for "halflings" in later "D&D" editions, but ask me in another thread, if I am welcome to post one)

(S.T.C.UP.W.I.A.T.W.T.C.) as Snailsilas Mortonomous/the Speedy Snail ("Snails" for short) (Same for him)

(The abréviation above, stands for "Soon to come up with ideas as to who to cast", by the way.)

(S.T.C.UP.W.I.A.T.W.T.C.) as Arlos Romus (one of the many law officers under position of "Honorable Sheriff of Sumdall) (Same for him)

(S.T.C.UP.W.I.A.T.W.T.C.) as Elwood Gutworthy (Same for him)

(S.T.C.UP.W.I.A.T.W.T.C.) as Marina Pretensa (Same for her)

(S.T.C.UP.W.I.A.T.W.T.C.) as Norda (Same for her)

Freddie Highmore as Irvius Persianus

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...Q9QEwBw&dur=37

Logan Lerman (I have been currently debating with myself about whether I should cast him, or someone else as the following character, with Logan Lerman being casted as someone else) as Captain Damodar/Lord Damodar

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...QEwCQ&dur=1021

and Daniel Radcliffe as the respected-and-trusted-by-the-High-Council-of-Mages-above-all-else-but-secretly-evil-and-treacherous-villain-of-an-evil-Archmage and that villain of villains among many, Lord Profion

http://www.realbollywood.com/up_imag...liffe4738e.jpg

As I said, more of it in another thread. If I am welcome to post another thread, of course.

Thundarr, the threadstarter, is probably your best bet for a critique, he knows all the D&D stuff, he is around every so often. He may not have seen your post when you put it up the other month. He was around today giving us his expert opinion on nutters in that psychopath thread, so you should send him a personal message if you want to ask him for input and opinions in the thread.

I've read a couple of trilogies that I feel would make great DnD films set in the Forgotten Realms:

The Erevis Cale Trilogy--This one tells the story of an assassin-turned-butler who is called to take up his old mantle after a drow and a human mage make an attempt on his master. Along the way he becomes a priest to the god Mask. Much of the second book is set in Skullport, a really horrific place.

The Haunted Lands--A Lich sets out to bring the realm of Thay under his rule. His legions include demons, nighthaunts, an this thing called Xingax, described as looking like a giant aborted fetus which supposedly manufactures new breeds of undead for the Lich.

Its got various protagonists--a bard, the ruling wizards of Thay opposing the Lich, and a battle mage--as well as a doomed love story and a really powerful ending.

Jeremy Irons' terrible scenery chewing makes Dungeons and Dragons such an entertaining disaster of a film.

Personally I would never want a remake of that horrific original film, but a film set in the the universe that actually does it justice would be awesome. I want a the dark elf trilogy, drizzt is such a cool character.

Well if they correct what was wrong with the original movie, then I'm all for a remake. But if they're just gonna make the same damned mistakes all over again, or make even bigger mistakes, then I say "Hell No! Haven't we suffered enough?"

I agree with this 1000%
