Thank you for giving "DC fans" a bad name. :wall:

What is it looking like? Does GotG have a chance at 2 weeks at #1?

How am i giving DC a bad name?, i actually think this may happen. GOTG will take out this week and despite the negative stuff against the Turtles i think the turtles will do surprisingly well and take out nextweek. I will definitely see both films.

I'd call it the first true mega-franchise, or ultra-franchise, or whatever prefix one wants to attach to it. Basically a franchise....composed of smaller franchises.
I think that's the best way of really describing it.

Here's my Guardians of the Galaxy review.
Ok, Marvel fans around the world and James Gunn. If you're listening, I just wanna let you know I just got back from my first viewing of Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX 3D. And, you know what, I ****ing loved it. Everything was incredible in the movie. The second opening scene with Quill on Morag dancing to Come and Get Your Love fit the scene perfectly. Thanos from Avengers was fantastic-looking. Josh Brolin did a wonderful job of voicing the Mad Titan and I can't wait to see what he does next. And, I hope you will allow Joss Whedon to bring the Guardians and Avengers together to battle Thanos in Avengers 3, because it will make one hell of a global smash hit. Too bad you couldn't get Brolin credited as Thanos. But, I'm okay with it. Then, the music was spot-on fantastic from Hooked on a Feeling to the Piña Colada song to Cherry Bomb to Ain't No Mountain High Enough to I Want You Back. You've made space movies get even awesomer music. BTW, Ronan was a major badass villain. I know some people are a little concerned with his one-dimensional ith, but, that's why he is. As Lee Pace said, Ronan is complicated, and it's clear he ain't joking. Yondu was one very cool character. Drax was the most funniest character of all in the movie. The planets and locations were very real, especially Xandar and Morag. Thanks for also bringing back Thanos's servant from Avengers, The Other, though it was sad to see him die in what I feel will be his memorable appearance ever in the MCU, although I did suspect he was gonna die in the movie. Denarian Saal was a very interesting character in the Nova Corps. The battle of Xandar was fantastic. The duels were amazing. And, a few more things. First, thanks for keeping Drax's comic book origins the same when he says at the end "It's really Thanos I wanna kill", Secondly, the casting was spot-on perfect. Third, I think this is the best Marvel movie ever, better than Avengers, better than Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and even better than Iron Man. Fourth, the way you opened up the film with the Marvel logo coming up after Quill gets abducted by Yondu was surprising and awesome. And, fifth and finally, last but most certainly not least, the best characters of all in the movie were Rocket Raccon and Groot. You made them feel like they are the new favorites of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel did a phenomenal job voicing them and they will be what drives this movie to be a global financial phenomenon. After what I saw, it's clear that Marvel has another worldwide billion dollar hit on their hands, whether people agree with me and believe me or not. And, I hope people will make this Marvel's next billion dollar hit, because if any other Marvel movie other than Avengers and Iron Man 3 can make a billion worldwide before Avengers: Age of Ultron, it's your movie. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. So, in my closing thoughts, bring on the sequel in 2017, introduce Quill's father, and continue to make more movies in your style. Best Marvel Movie Ever! Thank You and Marvel and Disney so very ****ing much. 5 stars.

SPOILER ALERT- TURN BACK NOW IF YOU WANNA WAIT UNTIL THE MOVIE

P.S. Kudos to you and Marvel for bringing in Howard the Duck into the MCU in the final post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy. If you can, I must ask you if you can reveal who voiced him in that closing scene and I would like to make sure you bring him back for the sequel in 2017. So, if you can please answer back. Thanks.
And, I hope people will get Guardians to open over $100 million in its opening weekend, because it deserves to.

A poster at HSX forums claims that GOTG is already surpassing TWS in terms of Thursday grosses in his megaplex.

I need this movie to break out (even if I haven't seen it!)

I'm too excited for it.

My theater was pretty crowded. There were more people for GOTG at 7PM than there were for ASM2 at the same time.

My theater was packed, twice as full as dofp or asm2. Crowd was hyped too, cheered and clapped at the end. I hope this goes over 100m this weekend its so much better than I was expecting.

By the time I got to the theater at 6:30 the 7PM and 9:50 2D shows were sold out already. I had to go to the 8:30 2D show and it was packed once I got in there. I didn't even look at the IMAX 3D and Real3D presentations since I never go that route. Judging by my theater's reaction WOM is going to be great.

In Whitby, Ontario, Canada, my theatre was jammed full, and there was a rousing standing ovation when the credits hit. Everyone popped for Thanos as well.

There was a ton of folks leaving the 7 pm showing and tons more going for the 3 screenings that were playing when I went in. Walking in people were raving about it. I honestly don't think I saw anyone going to any other movie. I absolutely loved this film and it seems everyone else that saw it with me did too. I don't think a single person got up until both stingers played. The MCU is so ingrained in the mainstream now people know to wait. I really think this is going to break out and blow away expectations.

My 7 oclock showing was about halfway full but its a rather large theatre. I see this doing very well this weekend.

This was the first time I went to a 7pm showing, and they were using the "small" theaters at my theater. Still, a nice crowd in terms of size.

My 7 oclock showing was about halfway full but its a rather large theatre. I see this doing very well this weekend.

Same exact situation for me. When I was leaving the theater there was a pretty sizable line for the next showing that was going to go see the movie, so hopefully this is a hit at the box office. It certainly deserves it.

10pm last night. All three showings sold out. So it in IMAX 3d and it was insane. Gonna have to see this again.

I went to the 10pm showing at a IMAX theater and it was packed. Has 600 seats in total and every chair was filled besides a couple from the first few rows. I don't remember TWS having as much people and I saw that one on release date as well.

While on line I saw a bunch of people leaving the 7:00 showing with posters too. I would have went to the 7pm showing if I knew you get a free poster for it. :argh:

I just checked the Metreon's reserved seating for tonight's 7:30 IMAX 3D. I'd say it's around 85%-90% full already.

OK lets examine some facts now.

Boxofficemojo is predicting a 82 mil OP.W.

Thats a 225 mil total dom. gross guarenteed if we consider GoTG to have better legs than Thor TDW due to better reviews/word of mouth/marketing campaign and actually being a better movie.

so we have half the picture over here.

225 mil DOM is a lock.

Boxofficemojo is predicting a total north of 300 mil OS. Not that we didnt know that already.

that makes a 575 mil WW A LOCK. im expecting north of 600 mil WW.

Pretty much what we predicting so far.

A 82 mil OP.W. also gives Guardians some hope for topping the 2nd weekend as well although that really depends on TMNT . its tracking for a 39 mil which i think is off. TMNT will open at 41-47 mil. Guardians has a 50/50 chance to top that. It needs a 85-90 mil opening and a 48-51% 2nd weekend drop.

I just checked my local cinema about 7 screenings today, most seem to have only 10-20% pre booking though

My 7 PM showing was completely sold out.

For comparison spider man 2 had 8.7

Oh and opening day in Russia was 3. Million

I think prior to this Cap2 had the highest of the year with a $10.2M from late night showings.
