Yeah the end was much better. I think that has to do with the darkness.

There was a noticeable difference between Reed's effects at the beginning of the movie and those that were put in later at the end. The fact that they had to cut more than half of his effects on the bridge scene showed they were not ready as far as his effects. BUT in the end they finally got them right.

Interesting. I think it's also a bit more convincing when he has the suit on. It's a lot harder to make his skin look right.

I'm not sure on this, could be completely wrong.....but it seemed to me to be very different from what was shot during the actual shooting and what was shot when they went back.....I'm not sure what is what....but thats how it seems to me....

I've got a feeling the majority of the budget will be directed towards silver surfer the 'big attraction' and 'last hope for this movie' to be a smash considering the crapness that is the first one.

The problem with the first movie, IMO, was they didn't give this movie what the comic has an abundance of, and that was heart. Writing to me is the key here along with the editing. If the heart is edited out of the writing then the problem will still be there no matter if SS is in it or not. If they focus on him, and not on the relationship of the 4 and the action doesn't stem from that, then we will have another crapfest whether SS is in it or not.

I think the intention was there to show the family spirit but personally i blame poor direction and just general bad writing for not being able to convey this properly on screen. The action had potential and certainly wasnt the films main downfall

The script wasn't great, IMO, but had potential. As far as direction, I don't know that Story was allowed to do much of that. IMO, Hoy was the main problem. After seeing the deleted scenes that for some reason on God knows at this point were left out. So as far as I'm concerned the editing was the main problem, and if I don't see Hoy's name on the credits I will be a much happier camper.

Doom was also a big problem. Not imposing enough in costume and his origin sucked. On top of that, his defeat in the last scene was too easy. He should have had his way with the team and then they could have come back with a vengeance. Oh and Latveria needed to be in the film (the actual location and not just mention of its name).

out of the 4 above i go with Reed... doesn anyone know if they are sticking with the same effects company or going with a new one?

Mr Fantastic definately needs improving in the effects department, his were the shoddiest in FF. Also the Thing needs more CG augmentations. And virtually everything else other than the cast needs improving as well.

I think they already established in the first film they were still mutating but they could easilly expand on that again here. With Ben it could be handled in his first scene: first show him from behind (so the audience dont know whats coming) while Reed is looking him over and asking Ben how he is handling his mutation. Then the camera pans round to the front and we see Ben in all his glory. Might be neat to have Ben say to Reed at this point "Please tell me this aint gonna get any worse".
 I would so like to see that scene! That would really work.
Gee, Wobbly, not only could you teach FOX a thing or two about how movie posters should look, they could apparently use your help on the script, too!

Totally off topic, sort of: The last issue of The Thing (#8) is now out, and Dan Slott really gives fans a treat. Among the many great moments are Ben Grimm's Bar Mitzvah (ingenious how Slott explains the rabbis' making an exception on age:It's Ben's 13th year of his "second life" as the Thing) Ben's monthly superhero poker night, appearances by plenty of familiar faces from years of continuity, and what looks to be the official reunion of Ben & Alicia after over 20 years! Marvel was so short-sighted in cancelling this title. For those out there who read the comics, I highly recommend this exceptional final issue.

I think how greatly advanced the visual effects will be in the sequel will depend on which effects houses they hire and also the amount time and money they're given to do that.

Reed. Most of his stretching looked awful, sometimes I was embarassed by it.

I thought Sue and Johnny were great!!

I agree. I thought Mr Fantastic's effects were good, but he is the character I think could do with improving. It still looks very cool during the final battle with Doom though. :ff:

sue and ben i thought worked out fine. human torch and ESPECIALLY mr fantastic need work though.

**** i filled in the wong hole. human torch was sweet.

Unless things have drastically changed, John Bruno told me back in May that he wasn't going to be involved with F4.
