Bandai-Namco Elden Ring

so Samurai is pretty good but **** do I hate the delayed attacks lol

I really wish there was some sort of quest log or something to help me keep track of who I've spoken to, what they said & what I should be doing/on the lookout for, for them.

I found out what the problem was also with the incantation, I needed a sacred seal in order to use it.. might as well not have bothered though, it's a heal & it's useless as it only heals about 1/10th my health.

yeah I get the minimalist approach but a quest book or some sort of log to keep track of things would be ****ing nice.

They just added a patch which lets you add map markers w. NPC's names and stuff, which should make it way easier to track those quest givers etc

I guess Tarnished have great organizational memories. As for myself I couldn't tell you a single mission ive taken or carried out. Randomly there will be some indication I've accomplished something and I have no clue what its for or if I'm supposed to do anything else.:funny:

I desperately need FuturePress to publish a guide for this game.

I've not played since update but there already is an ability to add unique markers for various things you've found in the world which I have been doing recently with NPC's, however I have only started with that so any I've encountered previously won't be marked.. being able to add names/descriptions will be nice though.

I'm talking about something more like a active quest type log, say like a journal that I can check more easily what I've been doing.

Patch changes looks interesting, especially the new NPC quests. The NPC marker also sounds helpful.

I'm especially pleased to see some of the sorcery spell balance changes. Increased damage and/or decreased FP consumption for some of the spells, in particular certain gravity-based spells. That has been one area of disappointment while playing the game. You pick up these cool looking advanced spells, and they do pitiful damage compared to basic early spells. Or else they cost way too much FP to be viable.

And I second the request for some kind of quest log. Almost 50 hours in for me, and it is hard to keep track of everything.....haha. If I weren't following the guides and videos online, I would be totally lost.

So, yeah, having some kind of quest log tracker would indeed be major quality of life improvement. It could be a journal tool you access at a site of grace. Or even some kind of new "scribe" NPC at the roundtable who records your journey. I'm sure they could come up with some kind of creative way to introduce a quest log mechanic into the game, even if a simple adventurer's journal would suffice.

Man, Commander Niall is a pain in the arse. I've felled 5 demi gods but some soldier chump is taking me down?
Haven't met Niall yet. But must've met his brother, Commander O'Neil in the swamp area. He was also a royal pain in the ass!!

Finally beat him but he was a PAIN. He has these two summons that will destroy you so quickly, but if you kill them first, he goes turbo mode for the rest of the fight. A very cheap boss fight if you ask me hahaha

Maybe this is a stupid question, but does anyone know what exactly the “Lands Between” are? The way the game begins kind of implies that your character is dead and has been revived (like in Dark Souls), so I’m guessing that the Lands Between are some sort of Purgatory between heaven and hell (or some version of them)? Or am I totally off on this? Do they ever explain it? I don’t care about spoilers given that I doubt I’ll ever be able to finish this game lol.

The NPC marker update is already a great help for someone like me, it automatically marks the NPC's location for you so you don't have to manually do it & when you hover over the marker it tells you exactly who is at it.

I would have preferred a sort of quest log as I said earlier, but this is probably as good as I'll get & as I say, is a big help.

Only just ventured into Stormveil castle for the first time & some turd locked me in a room with a knight who I could barely see in the dark. Found the 2nd or 3rd grace & fought 3 giant dudes who looked a lot more tougher from afar than they actually were.

those nights are so difficult for no reason lol

So I'm level 109, haven't finished the main story yet, I think have like 2 great rune bosses to go but... It's like the spell of Elden Ring has just spontaneously worn off. I suddenly and weirdly have no desire to play it. I can't even put my finger on it... But the whole gameplay loop just has suddenly left me feeling really cold on it all?

Part of it definitely might be those recent nerfs. I didn't even use Mimic Tear that much, but reading about how badly it was altered (it does less damage, the AI is now "walk into walls" stupid, can't heal itself and uses spells 75% less often), to me it completely undermines what this game is selling you. Which is, the game is very difficult, but if you put in the work, you can become super powerful. I was mostly invested in the power level grind, making the perfect build. But now the magic feels dampened because... FromSoft could just nerf any powerful build on a whim?

To me, the potential for super powerful builds and collecting legendary weapons was like the pay off for how truly cheap many of their bosses are. Now it sort of all feels hollow? I feel like I've lost any motivation to seek out powerful weapons and then invest a 100 smithing stones into them.

I think that combined with the fact that once you start to encounter plenty of repeating bosses, the magic of discovery wears off a little bit too. And the tough ones can be so cheap it doesn't even feel satisfying to beat them? That Commander Niall fight was so crappy for my melee build. They basically force you to use summons, and even then you just have to get super lucky with who you find and RNG boss moves. Beating him just felt so empty haha. I

I dunno, I might need to move onto other games and process this weird sudden lapse in enjoyment haha Can't remember bouncing off a game so suddenly before.

Devs nerfing powerbuilds is without a doubt one of the pettiest habits of the industry. Like they're ******** that players found a way to outmanuever their game's arbitrary BS.

I'm glad I bought a physical copy so that I'll always have the option of playing the game without From's meddling.

It seems like that "turd" who locks you into the room with that knight is also the same sneaky bastard who is responsible for stealing a % of your runes every time you die in Stormveil castle. You may have met him near the beginning of the castle if you chose to use the side entrance instead of the main gate.

I noticed that happening to me while I was playing through that area. At first, I thought it was a built-in penalty when you died in this game. However, I thought it odd because I did not remember it happening when I died elsewhere in the game.

Sorry, as someone not as familiar with FromSoft, are you guys saying that even after you build your character into a juggernaut, they add in new elements to weaken attacks that you can’t do anything about? That’s annoying.

More likely that they nerf/weaken the weapons, spells, and equipment that your character is built around. If the nerf is severe enough, that could make the weapon/spell much weaker or radically alter the playstyle of your build. Which, in a sense, could render your whole build useless.

That’s some bull****. What’s the point of putting in the time to build up your character then? Ugh.

Hence the frustration!

At least, stat wise, there is a respec option in this game. However, as far as I know, there is no "respec" option for your weapons. So all the time and resources spent on farming materials to upgrade a certain weapon will be lost and wasted if some patch severely nerfs said weapon.

Also, some players choose weapons based on style and the "coolness" factor. And others, like me, choose weapons based on lore/role-playing reasons (as I am doing with the Moonlight Greatsword). If said weapon is rendered useless due to some patch, then that makes all the time and effort spent getting that weapon feel wasted.

I don't expect OP weapons and spells that can one-shot powerful enemies or bosses. But for the amount of time and effort required to obtain some of these legendary weapons, like the moonlight sword, I expect them to be cool enough and powerful enough to be worth it. Otherwise, the game put me through hell and wasted my time for nothing!

I have yet to die yet in Stormveil so I've not noticed any % of runes missing, but yes that's the guy, the one you meet at the gate. I went back to him after dealing with the Knight & I had planned to kill him but he became a vender & opened the main gate for me anyway so I just let him be.

Yep! that's him!

Apparently the new patch added some quest-related stuff to that NPC, so I'm curious to see if there's more to his story.

Anyways, I've reached lvl 80 and am slowly making progress through Ranni's questline for the Darkmoon Great Sword. As I get closer to the end of the quest, the areas and enemies are definitely getting tougher! Oh, the things my character is going through for his tsundere mistress......haha!

On the plus side, that also means they drop more runes to level up!! In fact, I've found myself a great new farming route in Nokstella. Once I figured out how to exploit the enemies (in particular the "electric blobs"), earning around 4,000-5,000 runes in a few minutes has become quite easy!

It's done!! I finally did it!! I got the mythical, the legendary Dark Moon Greatsword!! **** Yeah!!

It's a thing of beauty and I can't wait to get it upgraded to try it out!

Also, story wise and lore wise, doing Ranni's questline to obtain the Dark Moon Greatsword was immensely satisfying.

Major Story Spoilers
Lore wise, the Dark Moon Greatsword is a wedding gift from the Carian Queen to her spouse/consort. The last step in the quest to get the sword is to put the Dark Moon Ring on Ranni's finger. So, essentially, my character got a legendary sword AND married a princess!! :)

So to that guy at the beginning of the game who scoffed at me for being maidenless, I have two words for him..........
