Elder Scrolls V - Part 4

I actually ended up liking basically all of the other DB assassins, with the exceptions of Astrid and her husband. There was a nice mix of characters that gave it a real family feeling.

I couldn't tell you about any of them aside from Babette, Nazir, Astrid, and the jester because I was so damn desperate to avoid that sanctuary. :funny:

Your loss, man. The Dark Brotherhood is awesome.

Also, the spider never leaves its little patch of like 5 square feet in its pen. :oldrazz:

Maybe that was my problem with it. I was never emotionally invested. I ***** footed around the Sanctuary, terrified of Babette's spider escaping and being right around a corner so I spent as little time as possible. :funny:

LOL.

Man i swear u and your complete irrational fear of video game bugs never ceases to amuse me. Hilarious.

I actually thought of you the last time i played Skyrim. I was clearing out a cave and there were a few spiders and i was shooting em with my bow, but one decided to leap at me as i happened to go into the 'slow mo' aim feature and there it was, just this big ass leaping spider right in my face, slowly getting closer. It actually gave me the heebie jeebies.

5 square feet too many, I say! :argh:

Ugh. That sounds like a horrific experience. I never got close enough to have one leap at me, thank good. :funny:

It's funny, the first time I ever saw that spider was when I was wiping out the Brotherhood and it was out of it's pen. One of the assassins was sitting at the table above the pen, and the spider was roaming around by the table.

Later though, when I joined the Brotherhood with a different character the spider remained in it's pen.

I agree with the poster who said that Skyrim Brotherhood and their quests are much better than Oblivion...They've got a story that got you more more invested in their characters and in return...their quests.

But therein lies the problem...for me personally. Doing their quests made me feel...dirty.They're seem to be much more... evil than their Cyrodiil counterpart,

Yeah, it's because Astrid doesn't follow any of the honorable tenets the Brotherhood is supposed to follow. She sort of devolved them from a principled group of political assassins to a gang of murderers. She claims that's the only reason they survived while all the other provinces' Dark Brotherhood orders got taken out, but obviously Cicero and the Night Mother are pretty disgusted with what she's done because they're old school.

Has anyone else found Bard's Leap Summit?

Funny place.

Has anyone else made a warhammer that does fire damage named 'SHUT UP [BLACKOUT]CICERO[/BLACKOUT]" just to hit him with it when he says something like "Let's kill someone!" with a guard beside him?

Yeah, although it took me a while to actually jump off of it. The first time I tried, I died and hadn't saved for a while, so I ended up loading an old save where I'd never discovered it. Then I rediscovered it and figured I probably shouldn't try the jump again. Then I went back later on and was like, "Why not?" I saved before I tried the jump that time and, of course, that time I nailed it perfectly.

That's funny, I read on the Elder Scrolls wiki that the jump is quite tricky, this was after I'd already leaped of it without a second thought :woot:

How often do you save? I save like a crazy person, the ability to save whenever you like makes me a little obsessive with it.

True. But when she said that she doesn't follow the tenets, i was hoping that the brotherhood would be more...anti hero-ish, turned out they've become more ruthless instead. The brotherhood in Cyrodiil, their targets at least can defend themselves-soldiers,other DB members etc. This time around, they've sent me to kill a homeless person! and a miners girl!

Though i have to say again, the brotherhood characters this time around is awesome! from the husband and wife leaders, to the little vampire girl poisoner! and the ending with Astrid....it's wonderfully tragic! what it lacks in quests (oblivion got like 20 DB quests) it's more than compensate with great characters and great storyline!

Yea i saved quite a bit. Iv got around 250 saves i think? All on one file tho.

Heh...i bet i saved more than you.Since i got the game, i have now more than 1000 saves (i've deleted most of them of course, but that's how many times i've saved):oldrazz:

How do you tell how many times you've saved? I have about 12 files, but I always tend to save over the same ones. I'll have to see next time I play.

What I tend to do is save after any 'event'. If I fight something, I save, trade at a store, I save, a conversation, I save, etc. If I'm walking I also tend to save after a certain distance so if anything goes awry I won't have to walk it again.

By that time, I was basically just relying on auto-saves. I was at like level 40-something with full dragonscale armor, a boatload of health potions, and enchantments that allowed me to cast Destruction spells for zero magicka. So I was essentially invincible in combat. Didn't really occur to me that I could still kill myself by jumping off of something really high like an idiot. :o

Haha.

I rarely get killed with my character now but the last time i played i was routinely clearing out a dungeon and a damn bandit killed me. I sat there stunned for like 5 minutes. I was like "did, did that bandit actually kill me?"

Haha, yeah, that sometimes happens. I get so used to easily beating the s*** out of everyone that I wade right into groups of enemies and don't even notice that my health is chipping away. Then someone'll nail me and my dude'll fall over and I'm like, "What just happened? Why isn't he getting up?"

I'm the same, over confidence is the only real killer. As long as I remember to take cover ocassionally I usually live to see a glorious victory.

Death though, is never the reason I save as frequently as I do. These games don't freeze or crash all that often (at least in my experience) but it can be incredibly frustrating when you've traveled 100 miles and beaten 50 people to death only for the game to lock up or glitch out if you haven't saved. If you're saving every 2 minutes then it's never a problem.

I've often wondered though, if there have been cases where people have saved their game unknowingly a second before a killing blow hit them? For example, what if you saved your game and were completely unaware an arrow was sailing through the air toward you. Presumably every time you reloaded the arrow would strike you and you'd be killed. Or you didn't know a bear was behind you, every time you restart the bear clubs you and you're done.

I saved while I was being chased by a giant and some mammoths at an early level one time. Took me many reloads to finally get out of that intact.

How did you end up getting out it? Run like hell?

I see now, the save files are numbered. My main character has 147 hours with 1823 saves. Is that about average, or am I as nuts with savings as I think I am? If my math is right that averages to about one save every 5 minutes.

It was at the giant camp right outside Whiterun. I eventually figured out that if you hide up on the high rocks that are scattered around that area, the giants couldn't reach you and would eventually go away. But I also didn't like letting those bastard giants push me around, so I used the rocks and short sprints to lure them over to the Whiterun entrance, where the guards helped me kill them. :)

Id say one save every 5 minutes is a little excessive, but hey, thats why its your game.
