I'm pleasantly surprised by this.
I'll bite the bullet here, but there's no way that TDK deserves to rank this high... better than Schindler's List, Vertigo, Gone with the Wind, 2001: A Space Odissey, SW Episode IV, Casablanca, A Clockwork Orange, Blade Runner, Godfather II, ET? no way, no how. As much as i love TDK, i dont think it should even be top 20.

I agree on Godfather as #1 though, that's a movie i just dont get tired of watching :woot:

Agreed. It's only because TDK is fresh in everyone's minds and how great of a movie it was. I love the movie. But better than those other films?! Blasphemy! But anyways, it's a good list. I'd rather hear it from people like us than the people who claim that (haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure it's good) Citizen Kane is the greatest film of all time. :whatever:

TDK beat Taxi Driver?? Wow, crazy list indeed. I surprisingly like it alot.

Well I'm glad the list wasn't like......

1. The Dark Knight
2. Pirates of the Caribbean

Etc.

Citizen Kane, 81/2 and Lawrence of Arabia ot in the top 10? Hardly a list to be taken seriously, especially with Raiders of the Lost Arc at No. 2.

It should be called, 'Most Popular 500' as taht's what it is.

Might I suggest more people voting have seen The Dark Knight than Taxi Driver?

YES

I think TDK is just having flash in the pan success. Later on it'll get a more appropriate response. High on a list but not this high.

TDK higher than Taxi Driver, Alien, 2001, Blade Runner, Star Wars, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?

Shame on you England!

And where the hell where Total Recall and Superman II?

2001 (boring) and The Good, the bad and the ugly (not a fan of westerns) I can believe, but the rest are a little off. I think its because TDK is the best movie of the year, that is why people voted of it so highly.

I suppose, but 2006 and 2007's best films where in pretty realistic positions though.

Return of the King is a better film than the Fellowship of the Ring; and how are films like the Matrix and Die-Hard better than the Seven Samurai. They're not even better than the Magnificent Seven. In no way shape or form is Jaws a better film than Goodfellas. Still, it's nice to see Chinatown and Raging Bull close to the top.

I'm a Batman fan, but TDK received a little too much love. Apocalypse Now shouldn't even be in the top 25.

I'm sorry, but TDK better than 2001?

At least it didn't enter the top 10.

You know I think Two Towers is better than ROTK and FOTR. The Battle of Helms Deep was just more powerful and moving than the Battles of Minas Tiras or Modor.

I think that the character development of all the characters went further in TT, that's why it's my favorite of the 3.

I like the shot of Gandalf and Eomer mounted on their horses just prior to their assault on the Orcs and Urban's subtle, but noble take on Eomer is great in TT; it's the best work he's ever done imo. Faramir's story is really great.

I do enjoy the way the battle at Hornburg takes place, but some things in ROTK make it more dramatic for me, though with these 3 films, it's win/win I guess.

I agree with both of you on that shot of Gandalf and Eomer. That first shot of Gandalf on the hill with his horse, surrounded by the sun, then Eomer coming in behind him, saying, "You're not alone." It gives me chills. Also, there's something when Gimli says "The sun is rising." And we see the beam light in the window while hearing Gandalf's 'Look to my coming of light on the fifth day. At dawn. Look to the east.' There were alot of things that made Helms Deep such a great battle sequence.

The Godfather is number 1... what a surprise. :whatever:

Not to say that the film isnt a good one, but I find that any movie that is repeatedly referred to as the best movie of all time is usually over-rated (TDK included, and that is my favorite movie).

Four Batman movies? How many Star Wars films were included?

Also, don't entirely blame the Brits for this list- it was an online vote so anyone could have done it.

5 SW movies, all except AOTC. Which IMO is the worst. All the Indiana Jone movies made the list too. (Oddly in the order they were made)

I'm surprised Raiders got to #2.

Im not surprised Raiders made it to #2:

Great script
great director
great leading man
great composer and score
the definitive adventure movie that seems to be the comparison for every adventure movie since.
great practical effects and stunts
iconic leading character (AFIs #2 Hero)
fan favorite, lots of replay value

It scares me that I've seen good majority of this list.

Superman Returns
Sweeney Todd
Snatch
Batman
Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
Unbreakable
Speed
King Kong
A History Of Violence
Dumb And Dumber
Spider-Man
American Psycho
X-Men 2
V For Vendetta
Dawn Of The Dead
Spider-Man 2
Iron Man
RoboCop
Batman Returns
The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
Casino
Children Of Men
Mean Streets
Zodiac
Predator
Sunshine
The Green Mile
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith
Suspiria
The Terminator
Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
The Prestige

England, clearly a country of immaculate taste.

The bolded are my 10/10's. I've got 30 of them. I'm currently 9 down 21 to go!

:up: I'm sure that with time, SR will be higher on the list, as it should be.
