English only bakery raises ire

Even if they can't see, hear or feel, it doesn't take away somebody else's intention of insulting or causing harm.

Yeah, that finger sure is harmful...
I'm talking about the whole case in general, not about somebody giving the finger to a blind person.

I didn't insult you and didn't give you a reason to do it.

I did read it, the article says:
"There is nobody who can say they are turned down because of the language," he added. "They can point if they want to."

I interpet this as:
People go to Geno's, see the sign, say "I'm not putting up with this $#1+" and go to a place that doesn't have a "you're not welcome sign". He only gets orders in english.

"This is America -- when ordering speak English" sign = "Can't give you credit today, come back tomorrow" sign
you go the next day and they still give you no credit, nobody will ever ask for it.

I don't see the difference between you calling a complete stranger an idiot and me doing it, but I apologize none the less. I interpret the sign as an english speaking business owner asking his customers to order in the language that he understands. I'll admit that the wording could be a little less abrasive, but if he wants to ward off customers then so be it.

It's not insulting at all. Geno's is constantly busy, hence the strict rules on ordering to get people through quickly.

Having a general statement in regard to processing orders for cheese steaks is perfectly fine.

It's a shame that some people have skin thinner than cheaply made plastic wrap

Don't tourists actually make an attempt to learn the preferred language of the country they visit, if it's different from their own?

I've not been to Germany yet, however when I do visit I would at least bone up on my German as it's been 11 years since my last German class and I know I'm a bit rusty.

Uhmmm no, not really, you see, for lets say a two weeks visit you don't learn for example four years turkish. You just expect the people in tourist heavy zones to speak more than one language.

We don't want those tourists to use any grey matter in their skulls to learn a few useful phrases of another language, when travelling to another country. It doesn't take 4 years of study to learn a few useful phrases, unless you have the mental capacity of a dish towel

I keep forgetting that for some people going through life as a ****ing moron can be viewed as worthwhile. They're the ones who complain that their brains hurt when they try to use it

How do you say where the nearest hotel is in japanese?

I just heard the guy talk on the radio and jeez, I think anyone would have a hard enough time understanding his English. He kept saying something about putting Wiz in a sandwhich, what the hell is Wiz? :(

Cheese. He also has a 9th grade education which should tell you something. Of course some will argue school is overrated and all.

Cheese? Crazy Phillie people. Apparently the sign has been up for six months already and activists are saying they're gonna send people to his restuarant, ordering in Spanish, to see how they're treated. He's also a very vocal person who yells at anyone who doesn't order properly, English speaker or not.

I dont know, I dont live in Philly but I think purposefully provoking him by sending people in there isnt the right way to do it. If anything get people to boycott the store, it seems like theyre trying to trick them into a discrimination lawsuit.

Did you put that through an online translator?

The first one would be:Como llego al aeropuerto?

I have no clue about the second one.

Make english your official languaje, no problem.
But idiots like Joey Vento forget that immigrants aren't the only non-english speaking people in USA, you get tourists and business people from all over the world, all the time.
Are you going to discriminate them too?
How are you going to tell them appart?
Are you going to ask them for their passport before they enter your store/business?

But spanish speakers are the majority minority.

I'm saying most illegals speak Spanish.

And if they are from Spain it's a race.

No one is arguing that every immigrant is illegal.

You just have to watch the ones sneaking over the fence, through the fence, hiding in the back of U-hauls, hiding in the dashboard of a Honda Civic, and other various methods of hiding.

That's what makes the "illegal immigrant" applicable

I know. You don't have to tell me that, I live in Tijuana and see it every day.

Yup. Since I'm in Memphis, I have to deal with brain-dead idiots in pickup trucks who listen to way too much AM Radio, and who think every immigrant is illegal, every arab hates america and is a terrorist, and that the bestest president is in the white house.

If it wasn't for the excellent barbeque, I'd leave
