Episode 07 - "Nothing To Hide" - Discussion Thread

I'm thinking that Nathan is a grade-A jerk! Telling Peter that he's a liability to his (Nathan's) campaign. Telling the press that Peter has a problem with depression, when he actually doesn't. Going to a crime boss for campaign money. Lying to his wife about his one-night stand. Lying to Peter about getting the painting back (why, for heaven's sake???). If they keep this up I'm going to be rooting for Nate to get fried in the atomic explosion.

Cool episode, and the little "heroes" action scene with Hiro and DL was cool. Nathan is disgusting, sorry, but I'm not "feeling" his character at all. He's the kinda punk who thinks the world revolves around him, and screw everything else...EVERYTHING. Jessica and Nathan really should hook up and get married...that's a fun household image. I'm really digging Claire's character, but man-o-man...she's only 17. Micah...figures...he's know all along about Jessica, so I'm wondering if he knows his mom's alias started all the havok? What happened to Mohinder?

Mohinder took his dad's ashes back to India. He's supposed to be in the next episode, though.

he's a politician, and he actually cares for his family, of which is brother is also part

if you think about it, Peter is a liability for his campaign, would you vote for a flying freak for congress? a whole lot of people wouldn't

he tells the press that as cop-out, his dad had the same problem (or so it seems), so he's working with whatever tools he's given at any moment

he goes with Linderman because like any politician, he needs campaign money, although I didn't like how the writers handled the reporter storyline, it was way too obvious, and this show has been making its mark on its subtlety

about the Jessica thing, would you tell your life partner you had a little fling last time you were in Vegas?

as for the painting, it seems there's a subtext very people seem to have gotten right: you see, when Nathan went to Vegas, he was going to get blackmailed by Linderman, but Nate found a way to turn the tables to his advantage by outsleazing Linderman, it takes a lot of guts to pull a move like that with someone with much more money and power than you, it takes a lot of skill and cunning to actually have it all work out in your advantage, he pulled ¡t off, and nicely

now, one thing you should keep in mind, is that once you deal with these people and come out clean (which is rare, specially in real life, where people don't fly and aren't impervious to things like bullets and stuff), the last thing you want to do is ask a favor to someone you just screwed and is looking for ways to screw you back, if he called Linderman, was to ask him to show Pete the painting, it might be a small favor, but a favor nonetheless

and that means, that Linderman has now the upper hand and that Nate is vulnerable again to this guy

now think about this for a moment:

have you noticed how this Linderman person seems to be very well connected to several of these people? it wouldn't surprise me if he was a bigger player than we thought he was

I think he knows that Jessica is responsible for things that have happened. After all he immediately knew he was talking to Jess and not his mom when he called.

I agree PLAS, a lot of closed minded people wouldnt vote for a guy who could fly or whose brother might be a depressed crazy person.

wow micah is a technopath, i new he had some kind of power, he can manipulate electronics with his mind.

so i guess this proves thet hero gene could be hereditary, but who knows yet, that was a great episode by far.

Linderman is definitly connected to this and will no doubt play a big roll in the seasons climax.

i don't know why so many people hate nathan, he's my favorite in the show, that politician's smile he gives all the time is fantastic.

Do we know if Lindermen even has powers yet? I also think that Radioactive Man somehow gets transfered to NYC and ends up blowing it up.

Nathan hasn't been behaving as though he cares about Peter.

If I thought he was a better candidate than his opponent, yes, I would vote for the flying freak.

Are you saying it's okay for Nathan to lie about his brother's mental health in order to help his campaign?

How did Nathan come away clean from his dealing with Linderman? Yes, he got more money than he originally was going to get, but they still have the video of Nikki and Nathan. He's been at Linderman's mercy ever since Las Vegas; Linderman just hasn't had any reason to squeeze him yet.

As for the painting, maybe I misheard, but during Nathan's phone conversation with Linderman it sounded to me as if Linderman was going to give him the painting. If so, why would Nathan tell Peter he couldn't get the painting?

Nathan wanst to see what it is Peter wants it for first, before he goes actively participating and aiding Peter in his save the world stuff.

Further, the video was recorded in order to have something as leverage to use with Nathan should he get into office - there's no power there yet. Thats why Nathan made them give him more money - cos four mill guarantees his seat, and that clearly what Linderman wants. Nathan wants the seat more than he wants to not be under the thumb of a mob boss. He's probably just hoping he can find a way out of it when the time comes.

Maybe because he's totally callous, unfaithful to his wife, and willing to throw his own brother under the bus for political gain.... amongst other things?

yeah its pretty established that hes kinda corrupt and is doing anything to win the election. he is working along side a mobster, as that one reporter [or whatever he was] pointed out during brunch

his personality stinks so i dont like him. perhaps if he goes through some sort of new character development that changes his current personality to something more of an actual hero, id startto like him

Well the idea is that these are real ppl and not everyone is perfect some ppl are not that nice or atleast don't act it, so i think he's ment to be a jerk now i for one love to hate him, eventually i believe he will change along with all the other characters.

The idea is that these are not real Heroes not yet they are becoming it, so yea i expect a big change from Nathan, till then i like to hate him :D

Which is a good thing since it means the character is still interesting.

Who wouldn't? It's ALI LARTER, man!

I have to say that the more Nathan I see the more I see him as a badass awesome jerk. The man oozes the Machiavellian idea of "The ends justifies the means" making him a potential uber awesome hero.

I wouldn't. There are few things in this world lower than people who cheat on their spouses.

I missed this episode can someone PLEASE give me a play by play!!

So there seems to be another symbol. It was seen on both the Nuke guy and the Telepath guy. It looked like two scratch marks but they paid pretty close attention to them both haing it at the end. We know that Jessica andC Claire's father's sidekick both have the other symbol. Does it denote teams before there even is teams.

of course not, he's a politician, that would show vulnerability amongst his peers.

I know, you being all pro-flying politicians and stuff, but this is the real world, and really, there aren't enough of us in any given district to assure a freak would win a congress election

he did what he had to do in order to save his campaign and keep reporters away from his brother

anyway you see it, before the elections Nate is just some guy like any other (except for the fact that he can fly, but that's beside the point), after he wins the election he becomes a very powerful person, and since he seems to be the kind of person that always gets his way, I could see him getting rid of Linderman as his first priority once he wins

and that's what I love about his character, you know he's a grade A *******, but you just know he's doing everything for a greater purpose

don't you just love different shades of gray better than black and white?

Am I the only who thinks that the last 2 episodes were really, really disappointing? This show started off great, the first 5 episodes were fantastic, but it seems as though the pace has slowed almost to a crawl with a series of side stories overtaking the thrilling base that the show was established on simply acting as filler to take up some time. I still look forward to future episodes, but I'd hope that they get back to what made me dig this show initialy.

I love Nathan. He pretty much represents the cynical point of view above anyone else. His line about "so what if I can fly,how is that going to change the world?" was great and made alot of sense.

Nathan is a crucial character in this show,he's definitely one of the factors which "ground" the show. Not everybody is going to be out to save the world if they found out they had powers.

Au contrair. The sixth episode was slow but it brought new angles to certain characters and showed us more revelations. And the new one deepened the myths. I don't want to see Ubuntu right away.
