I'm thinking that Nathan is a grade-A jerk! Telling Peter that he's a liability to his (Nathan's) campaign. Telling the press that Peter has a problem with depression, when he actually doesn't. Going to a crime boss for campaign money. Lying to his wife about his one-night stand. Lying to Peter about getting the painting back (why, for heaven's sake???). If they keep this up I'm going to be rooting for Nate to get fried in the atomic explosion.
he's a politician, and he actually cares for his family, of which is brother is also part
if you think about it, Peter
is a liability for his campaign, would you vote for a flying freak for congress? a whole lot of people wouldn't
he tells the press that as cop-out, his dad had the same problem (or so it seems), so he's working with whatever tools he's given at any moment
he goes with Linderman because like any politician, he needs campaign money, although I didn't like how the writers handled the reporter storyline, it was way too obvious, and this show has been making its mark on its subtlety
about the Jessica thing, would you tell your life partner you had a little fling last time you were in Vegas?
as for the painting, it seems there's a subtext very people seem to have gotten right: you see, when Nathan went to Vegas, he was going to get blackmailed by Linderman, but Nate found a way to turn the tables to his advantage by outsleazing Linderman, it takes a lot of guts to pull a move like that with someone with much more money and power than you, it takes a lot of skill and cunning to actually have it all work out in your advantage, he pulled ¡t off, and nicely
now, one thing you should keep in mind, is that once you deal with these people and come out clean (which is rare, specially in real life, where people don't fly and aren't impervious to things like bullets and stuff), the last thing you want to do is
ask a favor to someone you just screwed and is looking for ways to screw you back, if he called Linderman, was to ask him to show Pete the painting, it might be a small favor, but a favor nonetheless
and that means, that Linderman has now the upper hand and that Nate is vulnerable again to this guy
now think about this for a moment:
have you noticed how this Linderman person seems to be very well connected to several of these people? it wouldn't surprise me if he was a bigger player than we thought he was
