Episode 07 - "Nothing To Hide" - Discussion Thread

Am I the only who thinks that the last 2 episodes were really, really disappointing? This show started off great, the first 5 episodes were fantastic, but it seems as though the pace has slowed almost to a crawl with a series of side stories overtaking the thrilling base that the show was established on simply acting as filler to take up some time. I still look forward to future episodes, but I'd hope that they get back to what made me dig this show initialy.

Last night's episode was a BIG improvement over the previous week's Nikki/DL centric show.

No, you're not the only one. :csad:

Maybe the marks on Matt and the RadiationGuy were some sort of tracking devise put in by Glasses, to keep track of all the Heroes they have captured and returned.

What has Glasses done with Issac? It looks like then took all his paintings, Whats Glasses going to do when he sees a bloody Claire in the paintings?

Its interesting that Matt is dyslexic, he can read minds but he has problems reading words.

I like the part where Pete lies to save his brother, you can really see how they are related, they both are good liars.

I wonder how effective the gun is going to be against DL when he can just phase the bullents through him.

A good episode overall. shows like this need to answer old questions. and at the same time ask interesting new questions.

Actually, I liked the Nikki/DL-centric show (I wish they hadn't ended up fighting). The part where Nikki was talking to her alter ego was kind of creepy, yet fascinating.

is there a thread for the episode titled homecoming....thers new pics for that ep on comicscontinuum

This episode was better than last week's, if only because it didn't focus 85% of it's energy on Nikki but remembered the rest of the cast exists. However, I do feel that these last 2-3 episodes have seemed to have more "drag" than the first 4-5 episodes. This I suppose is not to be unexpected; not only is the show a gaurenteed hit for at least a second season (thus they have to stretch it along), but very few stories can be told even with a large cast for a good 12 installments without there being SOME amount of drag. Hell, an X-Men comic book story that frequently has 7-10 cast members (not counting the villian most times) can feel draggy at a mere 6 installments. And no, I wasn't about to go, "oh, HEROES sucks because it rips off the X-Men". I just used it as a comparison as the X-Men also have a large cast.

The aforementioned Nikki didn't actually die from her fight from D.L., but wakes up frantically after finding Micah gone. Her alter ego also now has a name; no, no, not She-Hulk but "Jennifer". Whatever. Also missing is Isaac, who after meeting Eden last week has suddenly vanished, with all his prophetic paintings with him. Glasses-Man strikes again! Peter is naturally preturbed about this, but he has other things to worry about; his gal-pal's father died, but Peter seemed to have an odd dream about him as he passed. This at least inspires his girlfriend to aid him in his quest, telling him that the fella who bought one of Isaac's paintings...is the mobster that his bro Nathan just scored cash from in Vegas.

Meanwhile, on the road, D.L. tried to redeem himself in the eyes of Micah, however, this is hard considering he just seemingly killed his mother in front of him, AND D.L. doesn't try to explain that Nikki actually was the one who killed his men and set him up for prison in the first place. Either because this topic was awkward, he was still in shock about it, or because he maybe didn't want to scare Micah too much more by saying something like that about his mother. For plot convience, they happen upon a burning car in the highway, and D.L., either because he is somewhat noble or wanted to prove to Micah that he could be a "hero", uses his intangibility powers to save person trapped inside. And for more plot convience, Hiro & Ando happen upon the scene on their trip to NY. Hiro manages to NOT choke this time and uses his powers at the right moment to save D.L. and the passanger from a firey doom. He shows Micah his "future comic" and explains his powers in broken english. While I naturally like Hiro, it is starting to seem almost contrived and random how some characters just bump into each other. What next? Will Claire use the same toilet seat as Nikki? Will the hocked loogie that Nathan spits at the ground while flying happen to slip up a crook Matt is chasing? Or maybe I'm just not used to this kind of thing happening, as I never watched LOST.

Speaking of Matt, he returns again and gets considerable facetime. His FBI ladyfriend comes across another corpse, someone charred with radioation burns, who she belives is Syler. Matt is more skeptical, but she narrows down a fingerprint and with the magic of CSI computers, finds a match. It turns out their target seems to be a man who can harness radiation about his body at uncontrolled levels. They have a showdown with him at the hospital where his wife is dying of cancer and Matt uses his power (which he has difficulty "reading" at times) to tell "Radation-Man" what his wife is thinking before she dies, calming him down for arrest. Syler's powers weren't like this so I'm with Matt that this dude isn't him, simply another "special" killer. Matt also uses his power to unlock another TV cliche; his wife is distant because she's having an affair with his over-friendly best friend, who he clocks in the locker-room.

Claire's somewhat-annoying younger brother finds the tape of her and her buddy "testing" her powers (and literally staples her hand to "test" it; what a jerk!), but when Claire breaks down the kid lets her keep it and may be on par to keep her secret, for now.

Finally, as Nikki switches willingly to "Jennifer" mode to track down Micah (who is another special with a knack for machines, something fans have predicted for a good month now), Nathan's mother and wheelchair-bound wife (who he cheated on with Nikki) organize a "brunch" with a magazine guru to boost his polls, which Peter crashes and threatens to bungle when Nathan refuses to help him & orders him to leave. However, when the mag guy asks about the mafia connection, Peter proves to be a capable liar himself and twists it so Nathan can save face AND his marriage; for now. Nathan also is able to track down the painting but tells Peter he can't, and ignores a call for help from Nikki.

So, yeah, a better episode than last week but I am feeling some drag. I still enjoy the show, though, but hopefully it hasn't run out of steam before the finale.

Not to bag on anyone, but seriously. Does anybody understand that theres more people on the show than just Hiro? I get that he's the fan favorite. But why is it everyone has to just jump on the "these episodes suck" bandwagon cuz they do a show focused on Nikki? I'm glad they did an episode and a half to open up her character. To me, she's the one having the worst of real life issues. Her husband was arrested, and she's left trying to raise a child with no money. All they're doing is showing how 'real' these characters are. I'm sorry not every episode is Hiro making funny noises, but thats how it is. I think everyone involved with this show is doing an excellent job, and probably making one of the best shows made in a long time.

I believe you're right... :cwink:

Personally, I didn't find the most recent episode all that draggy. Draggy means to me that nothing much happens between episodes. Lost is draggy as was Dragonball Z for lack of plot advancement but at least in Heroes, you feel that you're moving forward and learning new things without being teased mercilessly.

I'm pretty "meh" about Niki but mostly because I don't find the character all that compelling in the scheme of things. Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind when we get a better idea of what is going on with the supers. :cwink: I find the Petrelli brothers a lot more interesting in terms of their individual personalities and chemistry as brothers. But that's just me. The good thing about an ensemble cast is that there's something for everyone. Obviously Niki doesn't do it for everyone... certainly not enough to be able to carry an entire episode.
I prefer episodes that focus on several different characters but again, that's me.

How is Nikki having the worst real life issues? Her alter ego framed her husband and got him arrested, and add to that stole millions which Nikki could have used instead of stripping :oldrazz:

I agree with those who say that the show has slowed down a bit, it doesn´t surprise me that it has though I hope they kick it into a higher gear soon.

I have to admit that I find Matt´s whole homelife story to be rather boring, it´s just cliché to have the mind readers wife be cheating on him :whatever:

Its not real life where a husband is taken out of the family scene, and the mom is left to fend? I see it all the time where a dad dies, and he was the breadwinner in the family. The mom's job was to stay home and take care of the kids. Thats how Nikki and DL were.

I'm just saying that they're making an effort to make these characters real. But no one likes real anymore.

I'm not complaining, I don't watch t.v. at all, mostly what I download of the net. Yet this show has got me glued for an hour it broadcast on mondays, so bravo nbc for greenlighting such a above the standards show. I think with the mighty cast of characters, there should be a longer broadcasting time, or either that get rid of the damn commercials *lol*. Hour just goes by so quickly watching the show, at the end i'm always wanting more! Makes the week kind of hard because after that the t.v. doesn't come back on, not unless im gaming.

Yeah as said before I love the conversation Micah and Jessica have over the phone. As my mother would say "Quit trying to act all grown." In terms of Micah, thats one smart kid.

of course not, he's a politician, that would show vulnerability amongst his peers.

I know, you being all pro-flying politicians and stuff, but this is the real world, and really, there aren't enough of us in any given district to assure a freak would win a congress election

he did what he had to do in order to save his campaign and keep reporters away from his brother

anyway you see it, before the elections Nate is just some guy like any other (except for the fact that he can fly, but that's beside the point), after he wins the election he becomes a very powerful person, and since he seems to be the kind of person that always gets his way, I could see him getting rid of Linderman as his first priority once he wins

and that's what I love about his character, you know he's a grade A *******, but you just know he's doing everything for a greater purpose

don't you just love different shades of gray better than black and white?

I do love those shades of gray. He is an a** but it does seem like he has the greater good in mind when he's acting like a bastard.

So do you think Claire had her powers before or after she lost her virginity (unless she still has it)?

Because that would be a downside to her power. lol

Great episode as always, a lot was hinted to and revealed. I was a little dissapointed when Hiro and DL didn't 'discover' each other, DL didn't seem to care about the fact he moved in a split second. Would have been good to see people start to come together.

Nathan really has no redeeming features, the whole sleeping behind his wife's back was bad enough as it was without finding out she can't walk because HE crashed the car. She's hot too so absolutely no reason, to compound that by lying to her about it when the truth was there on the table. Well he's an arse.

it seems you're not paying attention, Niki didn't steal anything, it was Jessica, and yes, they might be the same person, but remember that when Jess takes over Nikki goes totally blank

I agree with those who say that the show has slowed down a bit, it doesn´t surprise me that it has though I hope they kick it into a higher gear soon.

it's called "pacing", it's a very useful tool when writting novels and other finer works of fiction, it makes the action parts feel more "actiony"

I have to admit that I find Matt´s whole homelife story to be rather boring, it´s just cliché to have the mind readers wife be cheating on him :whatever:

yup, such an endless list of mindreaders who get cheated on, like for example...

that's going to be reality television's biggest contribution to pop culture

maybe the fact that she's a cheerleader, and we all know they're all ****s

Hey... I was a cheerleader! Well briefly since I found out they were all ****s :woot:

That would be an upside. The hymen would reconstruct automatically every time it's ruptured, probably DURING the penetration, thus causing her to be a virgin FOREVER.

Plus, she's like 16. And on TV Lala Land, girls under the consent age are always virgins. But in real life, I think that even the actor who plays Micah got into the sack with Ali Larter.

Nathan's wife is insensitive from the waist down. She makes it really clear during the interview (something like, quoting from memory, "being married to a politician, I'm used to being insensitive"). Even if she's indecently hot just by being Rena Sofer, sex with someone paralized right in the Playgrond can't be totally pleasant at all.
