Eragon

the movie is supposed to be an epic dragon tale movie and its only like 105 minutes long:(

If thats true its a ****ing joke, this movie needs to be at least 150 mins long, to do the book any kind of justice. Once again Fox the ****ing ****s strike, god i hate them.

Anyone seen it yet?

I did yesterday and it was better then I thought it would be.
Acting was good, I liked all the characters and when I heard the Dragon could talk I was expecting like cheesy Dragon open its month talking and well cheesy and it wasn't what they did was better and Rachel's voice fitted so well.
Look forward to the next film.

Just saw it...

I wasn't expecting anything... but I can only say the movie sucked

Good thing I didn't pay for the movies:yay:

The books suck, and thus the movie sucked as well.

That was one of the WORST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN
My brother and I ran out of the theatre before it could have another five endings

Liked it. Definitely, in my opinion a million times better than POTC2. Granted it's not up for academy awards, but it was a good and fun film that was very entertaining.

Adressing the whole 'Star Wars' debate:

I can see where the Star Wars similarities are; but whether or not that was purposefully done that way or not is up for grabs, actually. Since the "boy being toss into a new world and destiny due to the death of a loved one" and "wandered who teaches the boy" are really just archeatypes that have been used long before and long after 'Star Wars'. 'SW' was built around these many types of archetypal characters, thus the only similarities that can be clearly drawn (I think) are the rise and fall of the Jedi order being similar to the rise and fall of the Dragon Riders. Other than that alot of it was just using the same conformed archeatypes. To really have 'copied' SW, the bad guy would have to be Eragon's real father or that (forgot her name) was his sister. But, many of those similarities that have been drawn in previous posts are actually more towards the archeatypes than 'Star Wars'...

Lucas brought up the want of using and combining these mythological archeatypal forms in one of the behind the scenes documentaries. So, if you want to do some further research just pop back in that special feature (srry, forgot the name of it) or search 'Star Wars Archetypes'.

I personally don't think 'Eragon' could be stated as being a copy of Star Wars. Yes, it used similar archetypes but the details within are different. As far as I know, might be wrong, Eragon's father wasn't the betrayer of the Dragon Slayers. Etc. Thus, it is more using the same archetypal form than it is copying off of SW.

I saw it last week. I liked it a lot.

question:

Is his new friend in black going to become a rider?

are there going to be more riders?

Fox's fantasy epic Eragon, based on Christopher Paolini's novel dropped a whopping 70% in its second weekend to 6th place. Clearly losing business to the new Fox family movie, the big budget effects movie only made $7.1 over the weekend to bring its total gross to $37.6 million.

My cents:

1) Movies are DEEP, even pure action fests have a LOT of work put into them by a lot of people, and as artistic pieces, they are useful for communicating thoughts of all types and can be analyzed for insights into the movie maker's psychology. Just because you don't take a movie seriously doesn't mean the people who made it don't.

2) The Inheritance trilogy uses some of the same archetypes of Star Wars... however, a cursory glance at the Journey of Luke when compared with that of Eragon shows quite a few glaring differences, notably that Eragon is initially excited about being a dragon rider, and Luke is skeptic for quite a while. Also note the lack of the everyman archetype of Han Solo... a prominent feature of the trilogy... Eragon plays the only everyman... even if you try to pinch Djimon Honsou's character into a Lando, a quicky wiki on Ajihad will show you how shallow these comparsions are.

That said, one can pick out one by one the inspirations for the Matrix, fully acknowledged by the makers, but that doesn't change the appeal of the movie, because having parallels to something else is simply not a determinant of quality... though it does provide interesting ammo for people who just want to hate something, regardless of it's actual worth.

SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED

Perfect example, an emotional response which, AFTER a position is already decided is THEN backed up by thoughts and that cobble together a pseudo-logical case against the movie: "It's a rip off" (like nearly every other movie which we all enjoy)...

3) As for future riders
Based on the books:
Murtaugh, the 'friend in black' does become a rider of a Red Dragon
The Evi King, Gilbatrix (sp?) has a big Black Dragon
There's an old crippled dragon ridden by a dying elf that trains Eragon and Saphira in the second book
Finally, of course, there is an unhatched green egg in the posession of the king that's supposed to hatch for an unknown rider in the third book.

I haven't seen it yet. I was gonna watch it on friday but, well, that's another story....Seems like it sucks though.

Ironically it's probably because Fox released Night at the Museum this weekend.
