The Dark Knight Eric Roberts is Maroni!

Didn't Maroni appear in Mask of the Phantasm? The other bosses are all being killed off and Sal asks Joker to protect him. Joker poisons him with his joker toxin and the girlie who is the villian finds Maroni Jokerized.

In fact that's one line that has to be in TDK. Find it, rewatch and you'll see how awesome the interaction is between Sal and the Joker.

You know, i'm really surprised that there hasn't been a thread for this. I know that when I first heard that Eric Roberts had been cast as Maroni, I was blown away, especially when I heard that he'd been chosen over the likes of Bob Hoskins and James Gandolfini.

I know that mob bosses are Roberts' specialty, but since we already have a thread for everyone else (including Rachel), why not let The Boss get his own thread?

I don't rate Roberts that highly, I can think of others I'd prefer for maroni, but there you go, I'm sure he'll do a good job

Plus, IMO Roberts looks more intimidating than either Hoskins or Gandolfini. Not that i'm bashing either, i loved the Sopranos, and Hoskins was fantastic in Unleashed (which Morgan Freeman was also in, btw ) but Roberts looks like the kind of mobster that doesnt need a bunch of cronies to get his point across if you get where i'm coming from. Especially when compared to Wilkinson in Begins

Nolan tried but Brimley couldn't couldn't come in to film that week. He was too busy waiting for his testing supplies.

Correction. He was superb in The Departed.
But the role of Maroni is interesting as in the comics he was not a cliched Mafia figure as Carmine Falcone is. I'm not familiar with Roberts work but I can't imagine the role is too demanding so I think that at the very least we well see an adaquete performance if not a superb one. And I don't know why you'd want Hoskins for the role. That man should play the Penguin, end of.
