Cheering and clapping is seen as a respectful act. Booing is seen as not just disrespectful, but almost one that's childish. It just doesn't reflect well on you or the place you represent. Even with the former, you'll never see anything completely over-the-top, like someone flashing the stage or shouting and screaming when you obviously aren't suppose to.

Been listening to the latest Giant Bombcast, and they brought up an interesting point about this not just affecting gamers. Developers are losing money because PSN is down, something about Capcom losing thousands of dollars because of it. And, more importantly, developers are unable to test out they're game's online capabilities. So hearing how it's affecting games that are in development...is pretty crazy.

And Tretton better not make any jokes. I just think the mood would be too uncomfortable for Sony to make light of the situation. I could see a few boos coming from people as a reaction to some stupid joke. Atleast, purely reactionary.

Hearing also that Sony will probably need to kick up to developers too, and not just us gamers, is interesting to hear.

Kind of like not informing your customers your outdated security was hacked and leaked all their personal information until almost a week after it happened?

Pretty irrelevant to this particular point.

I thought someone corrected that statement and actually proved that their security wasn't outdated?

The security was not outdated and the timeline has been posted many times already to show that we got the info when they did.

So why exactly is this mess still going on? Did they get hacked again or something?

They are rebuilding the system to try an prevent being hacked again. It's taking longer than they expected apparently. Online play will be the first of several phase'e to be turned on and that should happen soonish.

Perhaps you should read the timeline and not the headline. They found out what was possibly taken on the 25th and they told us on the 26th.

E3 isnt just for journalists. I had a friend who was a programmer(not for games) and he was sent an invitation. I was his "plus one"

Pretty sure the timeline proved they didn't give us the information of our compromised data when they found out...

Perhaps you should:

April 20, 2011. Early Afternoon – SNEA engineers discover evidence of "unauthorized intrusion" and that data had been removed from PlayStation Network servers. PlayStation Network shut down by engineers, taking 77 million registered PlayStation Network and Qriocity accounts offline. Sony retains service of computer security and forensic consulting firm.

-------

April 26, 2011 – Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment America provide public notice of the intrusion and alert regulatory authorities in New Jersey, Maryland, and New Hampshire.

there's some faulty reporting there.
they discovered the hack on the 20th
on the 25th they discovered what was taken
on the 26th we were told

They had no idea what info was taken, so they called in specialists. They waited to hear from them.

So? They still knew there was an unauthorized intrusion. There was no reason not to notify customers at that point in time.

April 24, 2011. Easter Sunday – Sony retains additional forensic team with "highly specialized skills" to "determine the scope of the data theft".

April 25, 2011 – Teams confirm account details compromised, including name, address, country, email, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password, login, handle and network ID, but remain unsure if any of the 12.3 million global credit cards stored on the servers were compromised.

this to me says they knew data was missing but not what until the 25th.

they werent sure what data was taken...for all they know hackers could have stolen "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" off the PSN store

Perhaps you should read the timeline and not the headline. They found out exactly what was possibly taken on the 25th and they told us on the 26th.
Possibly?

Didn't they find out for sure that the data was stolen on the 25th? But, they knew what was possibly taken on the 20th?

The SECOND they knew something was going down they had every right to alert their consumers. Maybe they didn't know what kind of hack... but why does that matter? They could have posted a PSBlog about how PSN was breached, that's all.

Example:

"We have found a breach on the PlayStation Network. Details at this time are not known. Please be aware that we are working extra hard to find out what the breach has caused. Stay tuned to PSBlog for further updates."

But they didn't, instead they tried to cover their butts by saying they had "routine maintenance" to do as if this isn't 2011 and what actually was going down wouldn't get out.

They should be not looked upon as "completely innocent" because, they're not.

not.

Exactly what Benstamania said. It doesn't matter WHAT might have been hacked. As soon as they knew of one, they should have alerted customers, told them they would be investigating it further, and informed them to take any necessary precautions.

They didn't know the full extent of the intrusion on the 20th and when they found it was significant, they told us about it on the 22nd. Your original post seemed like you were saying they knew info was taken for 6 days, which isn't true.
