Meh, Fett's a badass. I have no idea why people just have to kick the shins of his fans. He's a great character, with great stories through the EU.

Security Expert: Sony Knew Its Software Was Obsolete Months Before PSN Breach

In congressional testimony this morning, Dr. Gene Spafford of Purdue University said that Sony was using outdated software on its servers — and knew about it months in advance of the recent security breaches that allowed hackers to get private information from over 100 million user accounts.

According to Spafford, security experts monitoring open Internet forums learned months ago that Sony was using outdated versions of the Apache Web server software, which "was unpatched and had no firewall installed." The issue was "reported in an open forum monitored by Sony employees" two to three months prior to the recent security breaches, said Spafford.

Spafford made his comments in a hearing convened by the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade. Sony was invited to participate in the hearing, but declined to attend. In a letter to the committee, Sony said it has added automated software monitoring and enhanced data security and encryption to its systems in the wake of the recent security breaches.

"If Dr. Spafford's assessment is accurate, it's inexcusable that Sony not only ran obsolete software on servers containing confidential data, but also that the company continued to do so after this information was publicly disclosed," said Jeff Fox, Consumer Reports Technology Editor.

I'm seriously wondering about the fate of PSN the more and more I read.

I'm not kicking the shins of his fans. I'm just being....

real

Honestly, I don't even care that much :o

Boba Fett doesn't really exist.. so it's hard to be real on the fate of a fictional character, lol.

Oh and you care alright, you care a GREAT deal...

If that is true then Sony deserved this wake up call. Cheap asses

Lol at "open Internet forums". I guess we will have to see Sony's response, but I hope there was more to his assessment than that.

Fett has some cool lore in other mediums than the films, but in the films he comes across as incompetent, lol. They build him up to be some badass and then he gets destroyed easily.

That's kinda been the word on Sony for a while. That they're defense is pretty weak. Obviously, it had to be pretty weak or things would not have gotten this bad. They weren't even encrypting our information...

And yeah, XBL never got hacked. It crashed because too many people were on...so, pretty different. It seems like this could easily go on a few more weeks. Sony hinted that we'd get PSN back in drips and pieces, so if we believe them on that, then it could easily be a few more weeks.

It is in Sonys best interest to get this online as soon as possible. They are already paying enough with the free month & download & extra days. If this goes on to two months then damn sucks to be Sony

Guess it won't be online 'til Monday. :\

I would be pretty surprised if it was back by Monday. They've given me no reason to hope for it to be back by then.

If somebody asked Sony when the world would end they would say "Soon". Since that is when they say PSN & SOE will be back up

Not to make such a huge comparison, but it's like when they downplayed what was going on with the tsunami....Japan has a thing about saving face when it comes to **** happening to them, and they don't like to admit something is worse than it is.

I had a strong feeling they were. This was no coincidence. I want the FBI to find these bastards and throw them in jail

I think I have another mission for Seal Team Six

As long as Sony is actually improving protection,I wouldn't mind PSN being down for another month!,why pressure them to hurry up and put it back ASAP IF there still not fully ready??

Perhaps it could still be hacked another day,But an updated software&firewall could still help for a while!!

If PSN is down for another month Sony better be prepared to update the welcome back program

If PSN is down for another month Sony better be prepared to update the welcome back program
they will pretty much have to, especially for those paying for Plus and DCU
