Escape from New York (Remake) - Part 1

The slasher movie bogeyman of remakes, everytime you think it's dead it lunges back for one more go.

I'm excited ho hear this, as Rodriguez loves the hell out of EFNY and is a huge fan and friend of Carpenter. Still, I'll be somewhat cautiously optimistic, since with Robert, projects don't(or haven't yet) often come to fruition( i.e, Fire and Ice-remake, Heavy Metal, and Jonny Quest).

Scott Eastwood, D.J. Cotrona(From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Norman Reedus, and Timothy Olyphant are some of my picks for Snake.

I just hope Rodriguez doesn't shoot it in front of a green screen in his garage.

Sort of wish this was what David Leitch was doing instead of Deadpool 2.

But as a sequel. Escape from Planet Earth starring Kurt as Old Snake.

Off the top of my head I can't come up with the actor to play Snake... Like at all. I'm sure there is a good choice to be had though, but damned if I can imagine it right now.

Hugh Jackman or Viggo Mortensen.

A part of me wants to see an old Snake.. with Kurt Russell still playing him tho.

Wyatt Russell is...

... Son of Snake.

The best part of Escape from New York is it's laid back, almost hangout vibe. I'm sure a modern action movie can achieve that tone.

If Rodriguez can channel his earlier work like Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn or even Planet Terror then I'm game. If it's like his Machete films...fugetabotit!

God yes. He ran that jokes into the damn ground.

Bit of an update from Variety. If this is accurate we can expect to hear casting announcement's in the not to distant future. http://variety.com/2017/film/news/robert-rodriguez-escape-from-new-york-remake-1202015963/

Dafuq? He literally only wrapped on a massive scale effects heavy sci-fi epic a month or so ago.

Leigh Whannell to Tackle 'Escape From New York' Remake for Fox (Exclusive)

Just days after closing a deal to write and direct The Invisible Man for Universal, the Australian-born filmmaker is taking on another studio franchise, Fox’s Escape from New York.

Whannell will write the script for the remake of the John Carpenter 1980s classic. Sources say that while there is no deal for him to direct, the door is open for that possibility.

Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing. Carpenter is executive producing.

Neil Cross, the creator of the BBC crime series Luther, wrote the most recent iteration of the project that Robert Rodriguez was attached to direct.

Whannell, however, is kickstarting Escape with a new vision for the project that sources say will retain elements of the original but bring new ideas to the table. One of Whannell's goals is to avoid the bloated tentpole remake path that afflicted the reboots of other 1980s-era movies such as Robocop and Total Recall.

Whannell made his debut by writing and co-creating the Saw franchise with pal James Wan. He teamed up with Wan to launch a second horror franchise, Insidious. He made his directorial debut with Insidious: Chapter 3. Last year, he wrote and directed the dark sci-fi thriller Upgrade, which starred Logan Marshall-Green. That movie, while not a hit, showcased his chops enough to trampoline him into the studio franchise world.

Escape From New York was my first "15-rated" movie I watched as a 14 years old back in '81. I almost managed to get in to Alien two years before, but my pal was too short back then, and the ticket lady devastatedly (spelling?) asked him for an ID (later on he grew way taller than me lol). And that was it for my cinematic Alien experience.

But a cople of years later, EFNY was a completely bloody awesome cinematic experience. Kurt Russell/Snake Plisken was our favourite bad ass hero back then (shortly after, Indiana Jones came out, didn't matter).

Anyways, I try to stay away from nostalgia reading news about this, but damn, they really need to nail this.

They better cast Wyatt Russell

Make it a sequel/soft reboot instead with Wyatt Russel as Snake Jr. looking for his dad who’s already escaped earth.

They never can properly capture Russel's likeness.

This doesn't strike me as a good idea. Not that I'm upset about a reboot but my first instinct says this won't work.

How about Kurt Russell not for old Snake, but younger Snake that we've seen all along? They can use GOTG2 technology to keep him young for the movie.
