Escape from New York (Remake) - Part 1

Clarke is the choice I'd go with.

Butler is terrible.

I'm in the minority here, but I can't stand Ryan Gosling.

One thing that's subtle about Plissken, is that he's not a Schwarzenegger demi-god type. You gotta remember he drinks, smokes and doesn't work out much. It's why I think it should be Josh Brolin or Jason Clarke, or hey, I wouldn't complain about Gerard Butler either, just make him ex-SAS.

I won't lie I would actually be excited it someone like Brolin was cast, that and if they were going to go with a very serious and gritty retro tone to the film.

Too bad those things will be unlikely.

I'd be alright with Gerard Butler as Plissken.

I don't see Jason Statham.

Tom Hardy is a better actor than either of them, but he's already taking over Mad Max and has a buttload of other upcoming projects. I don't want to see him get overexposed.

He's already right up there with Fassbender on here for being suggested for every conceivable role. I mean, yea he's awesome and badass but he can't--and shouldn't--play everyone, people would get sick of him right as they were getting to know him.

You really don't see a guy whose permanently stubbled and sounds like he chugs gravel for breakfast as Plissken?

Josh Brolin as Plissken would be pretty sweet!

Because we were all just dying to know how Snake lost that eye, right? Um, right?

Ugh.

If you're describing Jason Statham, no I don't see him as Plissken.

Or Hardy.

Or Ryan Gosling (even less than the above people).

Josh Brolin sounds better to me than any of those suggestions.

AFAIC recasting Plissken is like trying to recast Indiana Jones or Max ( Mad ).
If it was me, I would create a new character and made another Escape from "insert a place here".

Yeah I am not down with recasting icons. Someone suggested B. Cooper for an Indy reboot and while I could kind of see it in him, I would be iffy about any reboot period.

I could see Statham as Plissken. I don't want him, but I can visualise it. Hardy too.

Ryan Gosling is the absolute worst choice listed so far.

Given Statham is busy with Heat, that sequel to a movie he appears in the post credits scene of and Expendables 3 and Hardy has Animal Rescue, Locke and Child 44 on their respective plates, I hope they'll both be too busy.

Josh Brolin or Jason Clarke for the win.

Hardy is booked pretty solid for God knows how long, he's supposedly also playing Al Capone and a guy who climbed Mount Everest and might do more Mad Max movies...

Producer Joel Silver Breaks Down His ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Trilogy; Script Isn’t Complete Yet
Perri Nemiroff said:
When asked whether or not the script is complete, Silver replied:

“No, no we’re not, no we’re not. I mean, it’s funny because we have a relationship with Studio Canal, which somehow ended up with the rights to that, and it has been floating around LA or at least in the development world for a long time.”
Right when we found out that Silver decided to commit to take on the challenge of producing the reboot, we also learned that he didn’t want just one new Escape from New York film; he wants a trilogy. Silver further explained:

“I always liked Kurt’s character, the Snake Plissken character, so I’ve always like that idea, but we kind of figured out a way to do almost a trilogy of that story.”
Previous reports have likened the first film of this potential trilogy to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but Silver broke it down further:

“There was a videogame that came out a few years ago called Arkham City, which shows how when Gotham became this kind of walled prison and how it became a walled prison. And they never deal with that in the story of Escape from New York, so part of our idea was to kind of see how the city became this walled prison and how the Snake Plissken character was a hero and how he became not looked at as a hero. And then, in the middle of the story, would be the movie that we, you know, previously saw about the President’s daughter goes down, he has to go in and get her. And then, you know, they did a sequel, Escape from LA, but I would like to then kind of find a way to have New York go back to a place that we’d like to see what it is today.”

Clearly Silver’s already got big plans for his Escape from New York series, but it’s also vital to point out that the project is nowhere near go-time yet. Silver noted:
“So there is a way to tell the story in three ways, but we haven’t got there yet and we’re just starting.”

Lockout is the best Escape from New York/LA remake we'll prob ever get

I can bet you he saw maybe barely a minute of his grandson playing Arkham City.

Why do I get the feeling this re-boot will be stuck in development hell for a while? I love the orginal, but am not against re-makes, hence me liking the new Evil Dead and Robocop movies.

But this just all sounds....iffy to me.

I half agree with you there. I thought the concept to Lockout was awesome and I LOVED Guy Pearce's character. But the movie itself... it almost felt like an action movie with barely any action in it. Aside from the (awful) CGI bike chase and the aerial fight over the propeller, it seemed like most of the movie consisted of Snow and the President's daughter just hiding out in janitorial closets. I guess it was the budget. It's shame, because I would go to see the Snow character in 10 more movies.

Same. I consider every iconic movie remake nothing more than a lazy attempt at a money grab unless it proves me wrong after the fact.

Lockout was horrible I really tried to enjoy it and fully appreciated what they were trying to do with it, I even like Guy Pearce in it but I just thought it was bad.

That sucks. My brother said the same thing. I thought it was fantastic. The best 80s action movie throwback I've seen in years if ever.
