Escape from New York (Remake)

If you "HAD" to recast Plisskin...do you like the choice of Gerard Butler???

  • Yes I like him...not sure if he's my top choice but...I like it! :)

  • No he's not right for the role at all. :(

  • Not bad but...I'm not sure yet...need to give it more time.

I don't have a problem with a remake. But at the same time, I think they still could have done a sequel.

He proved in Death Proof that he ain't too old to get it done but on the other hand everyone would complain it's just another milker before the guy is too old like Rocky Balboa, Indy 4, & Die Hard.

Any news that confirms Ratner is not involved with a project I'm interested in is good news.:woot: Also, I would like to say that I have not been brainwashed into disliking his films because I've seen most of them:

Money talks=crap
Rush Hour= mediocre comedy
The Family man=boring drama
Rush Hour 2=mediocre comedy
After the sunset=boring crap
X-Men 3=most disappointing movie I've ever seen.

I have not seen Red Dragon so I have no opinion of that movie.

^ Those are just your opinions of course.

Rush Hour was more than just mediocre it was actually a great film. Family Man was also a great film. Rush Hour 2...more of the same. X3 I totally loved it and his direction was fine. If you had problems with anything it had to do with how rushed it was...Ratner didn't cause that, nor did he write the script though his prints are on it.

Lastly Money Talks was funny as hell.

None of those mean he can make a good Escape From New York movie.

even though ratner is off, I still don't see why that means he can't make a good EFNY movie ether

again he isn't my favorite, far from it, but he has shown that he isn't a completely voidless director, he has made some decent movie, I'm not saying he would make a good movie, I just don't see why he can't

I'm happy Ratner is off the project, it means the film is getting further away from being made.

A few director's I'd love, and forgive me if I don't know their names. The directors of:

Equilibrium
Running Scared
Night Watch

Names I know:

Alex Proyas (won't work for Fox)
John McTiernan (isn't he in Jail)
John Carpenter (only if he signs a contract stating it'll be nothing like Escape from LA)
Sam Raimi (what the hell is he doing if not The Hobbit)

^ and those are all your opinions as well lol.:woot:

Kurt Wimmer also wrote and directed the wonderful mess that is, ultraviolet. So, I'd say no to him.

to busy with De Niro on Frankie Machine, I say his protege Peter Berg.

the Rundown? the Kingdom? i'd be down!!!! he seems like he's moving up in the ranks since he's working with Will Smith and Charlize Theron for his next movie.

Yup, he tells a good story, has an edge and brings kickass action.

Success doesn't equal lack of quality either.

I never said that but as we know by hits like Scary movie and the Fast and the Furious 2 and 3, a hit is the last thing we should judge a movies quality on.

Any word on the progress of this movie? Is it still being made or is it production limbo??

best news i've heard all weekend...

Harry,
I don't know if this is old news but I can tell you that Brett Ratner isn't directing the EFNY remake, according to him. He was given an "achievement in cinema" award at the Savannah Film Festival and I managed to ask him afterwards about it and he said that it was happening but not with him.
I know I'm not a spy or anything but thought I'd shoot you an email about it.

Ratner gets a "achievement in cinema" award... The end of the world is near...

Look at this picture from Escape From New York:

Escape_From_New_York_Wireframe.jpg

Do you guys know how they did this shot which was in the movie a CG map of NY? This was done with a 3D model of NYC, shot under a blacklight with reflective tape on the buildings.

My point is back then, you had imaginative and hungry grunts on this movie that had little money and did things like this to get amazing results. Whatever remake is shot will not have this same sensibility.

Guys work just as hard and are just as creative now, they also have the actual tech to create a believable prison Island NY. It' not like duct taping **** together makes you better.

I'm still happy ratner not doing it, I'm also happy they aren't making this yet. Is there even a special edition of the DVD yet?
