Escape from New York (Remake)

If you "HAD" to recast Plisskin...do you like the choice of Gerard Butler???

  • Yes I like him...not sure if he's my top choice but...I like it! :)

  • No he's not right for the role at all. :(

  • Not bad but...I'm not sure yet...need to give it more time.

That's almost as bad as taking an anti-hero like Riddick and making him a hero...like they did in Riddick. LOL

X3 is the only real reason I dont like him, he just butchered the movie and it was a dissapointment being that it was the final film of the trilogy. Aside from that I never had a problem with rush hour, infact I think thats what he is best suited at.

Corretion for #2 Directors dont really do the camera work themselves they more "direct" (not trying to be snide!) the cameramen what to do. Rarely are they hands on interms of physically holding the camera and capturing footage.

Yeah. That reminds me of something funny. Before Iron Man started production I was chatting with Favreau about his movie "Elf". I told him I thought the funniest scene was when the news was reporting of a creature or something in Central Park and then they showed the video tape footage of Elf walking through the woods and it looked exactly like the old bigfoot footage of bigfoot walking with the long slow stride and swinging arms. I almost passed out laughing when I saw that. Anyways Jon then told me he actually took that footage himself with his only personal home video camera and laughed because he never got credit for that. LOL

Did you guys see that pic of Hugh Jackman on the front page in the Wolverine Article. Wow he'd be a cool Snake!

I'm happy with Butler but wouldn't mind Jackman. I don't think he'd be boring at all.

I dont know about jackman as snake, he would be passable as snake, but Im glad that its butler over jackman.

Me too. I'm also fine with Ratner. Things could be much worse. Look at Terminator 4 w/McG. Forget that. At least Ratner's films are entertaining and have mostly all been successful.

I just look forward to the first shot of Gerard as snake..for me it will make or break it.

1-2 Not really. Haven't seen 3 just yet since the first two are meh.

If Brett Ratner directs this, i will immediatly not see it, Len Wiseman would have been a much better choice, and GB is a good pick for Snake, but i will lose all interest in this movie if Ratner directs it.

Ratner's supposedly the man for the job now. That could change too. I'm a fan of sci-fi and this franchise so no way I'm NOT gonna see this film. I'll be in line the 1st day to see how they pull it off. It might suck but it also might be awesome. I've never seen a Ratner film I did not enjoy. Some of you are brainwashed into hating him I think. :)

The only thing that has brainwashed me into hating Ratner has been his movies :woot: . I have never seen one i have ended up loving or even liking (Rush Hour 1 was OK and his best IMO, though i havent seen Red Dragon) and i just think he is an amateur film-maker who adds no intellegence, character or story development to his movies what-so-ever. He is down there with Paul W.S Anderson as a film-maker i am just not interested in and have no faith in either.

I had hope for this when Butler was announced, that hope is all but gone with Ratner doing it.

:csad: At least we still have the original.

I question Brett Ratner truly understanding the elements that made the original film excellent and great. The things that can't really be repeated or done again today.

^ The main thing is Butler has to create his own Plisskin without changing the core elements of the character. He can't just copy Kurt Russell. He has to be different but at the same time...the same. Hopefully Butler understands this and will smack Brett if he tries to change it.

Don't forget Ratner has an official site and does read the messages there so we could try to get the message across to him.

#1 It should be R rated.
#2 It should be just as dark if not darker than the original.
#3 This isn't a comedy.
#4 See "Escape from La" and dont' do that.

I want to see what happens before the beginning of the 1st film (which is scripted), and I want to see more of the sewer people, more firefights with them, and more hand to hand combat.

Please no basketball game.

I'm most interested in his entry now with the twin towers gone.

Well, I don't know about you all, but I thought Red Dragon was pretty good. Ratner is a director that sometimes hits the spot and sometimes misses it. Let's hope he doesn't miss here.

Red Dragon was good. I've enjoyed all of Ratner's films. They're entertaining. I think he could do it justice.

It's a flawed idea in the first place. It's also the reason why these modern updates aren't successful or nearly as good as the originals.

Most of Ratner's movies are actually a lot more like Escape From LA than Escape From NY. That is dumb action comedies that look really cheesy.

A movie just can't be dark or called darker for it to be good.

There was a reason that Escape From NY made sense and looked good. At the time, the NY in the movie was what NY in real life was heading towards. People who live in NY now and lived there when the movie came out, can't have imagined it becoming the way it is now.

Escape From New York was also a shining example of guerilla, efficient, penny-pinching filmmaking. Part of what made the movie so great was that they didn't have a ton of resources, so they had to think harder and do lots of edgy, and different things.

This movie gets made it will have a big budget and everything they could possibly need. They aren't going to think and come up with interesting, and revolutionary ideas like Cundey, Cameron, and Carpenter did with the original.

I just saw this and thought it bore sharing.

Butler's about as bad a choice you can pick to replace Kurt Russell. Only person Id be ok with is Josh Hollaway playing the role. But they shouldnt re-make this film.
