Escape from New York (Remake)

If you "HAD" to recast Plisskin...do you like the choice of Gerard Butler???

  • Yes I like him...not sure if he's my top choice but...I like it! :)

  • No he's not right for the role at all. :(

  • Not bad but...I'm not sure yet...need to give it more time.

Ratner isn't horrible. Red Dragon was a decent film, and was way better than Ridley Scott's (I was so letdown) Hannibal. Besides, X3 wasn't entirely Ratner's fault, like many posters here claim. Say what you want about Rush Hour 3, though. I was letdown by that one.

I think it is funny how anti Ratner people are, X3 not that good but nether are the other x-men movies, I'd say its a production problem through and through not just on ratner however he probably didn't help

Red Dragon is at least better than Hannibal not a whole lot to say there though, but it is, its a solid movie though.

Rush Hour 1 is brilliant, 2 is average, and 3 is below average a seemingly usual track record for a franchise

Money Talks is also a highly entertaining movie

the man is a solid director has had his share of hits and misses--but he made a cameo in entourage so he is sweet in my book lol

but I mean at the same time is he my choice? No

None of those mean he can make a good Escape From New York movie.

as midnhtsun pointed out, Michael Mann could've made an AWESOME Escape from New York...
Instaed of remaking Escape from New York, they should just do a movie were someone has to break someone out of some big-ass prison using the current script but just change the character names. No-one will care that they have similar plots since the new script has so many changes.

Yeah New Line should do that and throw away the millions they spent on the franchise name. LOL

The attraction is the franchise. I do think they should be a new Riddick movie more along the lines of the game called: Escape From Butcher Bay.

Regarding this remake/expansion of the 1st film I think it's a great idea to set up an ongoing franchise. There are some cool stories to be told. A futuristic Fugitive film.

There is no franchise, just like with Riddick. Riddick was not a franchise character.

Not everything is meant to be a franchise. And if they are spending a ton of money on this to be a franchise they are idiots.

Escape From New York was a moderate success in the 80's. The sequel in the 90's was a flop.

Riddick was a franchise character...they totally F'd it up. Snake Plisskin is a franchise as well. The 90's film was a flop because it sucked. If it was anything like the first one it would have been a hit. Don't forget the original was not a success in the theatres and neither was the Thing. The movie audiences weren't big enough to support small niche films like that. Now the audience is there. They're discovered basically on DVD where theyre' fan bases grow.

No he wasn't. He was the featured cool anti-hero character in a decent and cult/sleeper hit sci-fi horror movie, that's it. They lost sight of this and tried turning him into this big budget Hollywood movie star like Neo or something. If Pitch Black was actually a hit the level of something like The Matrix, there might've been some better reason for a sequel or turning it into a franchise.

All you can do is look at things and see franchise and dollar signs. Believe it or not some movies are not always made to be franchises or characters are not always meant to be recurring characters.

Escape From New York was a decent success in theatres. It was dirt cheap to make and made more than 5 times it's budget in theatres.

Escape From New York and The Thing are classic movies. They are great movies and they are loved by fans on DVD and video. That just means that people like to buy and watch the movies on DVD's. That doesn't mean they want to see poorly made Hollywood remakes that share nothing in common with what made the originals they love to watch so much good.

^ That's what I'm saying Vile. They screwed it up. They should have kept him a bad ass anti-hero instead of taking it down the save the world road. It would have been awesome to see Riddick captured and have a futuristic escape from prison film like the game. Now they screwed it up. They left it hanging with a future it shouldn't even go into. A prequel is the only route left now for that film.

Snake Plisskin was screaming for more adventures but they screwed that up to. Fortunately it's a franchise that deserves a restart so we can see more adventures of Snake. I think the ending should be changed in EFNY though. I think at the end when he saves the President that they leave him in the prison and don't let him out. Then in the follow up it should be him trying to Escape from NY kind of like that Ray Liotta film but better.

best news i've heard all weekend...

Harry,

I don't know if this is old news but I can tell you that Brett Ratner isn't directing the EFNY remake, according to him. He was given an "achievement in cinema" award at the Savannah Film Festival and I managed to ask him afterwards about it and he said that it was happening but not with him.

I know I'm not a spy or anything but thought I'd shoot you an email about it.

I would have been ok w/Brett but he's far from my top choice. I wonder if Len is doing it then? He's not my top either. Who directed 300?

Yes!!!

My God, how can such a great character as Dr. Lecter only have 2 good films and 3 piles of poo?! I was so disappointed with Ridley Scott.

If we're lucky this movie will just die.

300 was directed by Zack Snyder who is currently doing Watchmen.
