Escape from New York (Remake)

If you "HAD" to recast Plisskin...do you like the choice of Gerard Butler???

  • Yes I like him...not sure if he's my top choice but...I like it! :)

  • No he's not right for the role at all. :(

  • Not bad but...I'm not sure yet...need to give it more time.

Christian is a chameleon he is one of the few actors that I think could do almost any role.

I wouldn't want Bale to do this role, simply because I don't want him to start doing too many major action/summer type films all of the time. I think he has a lot of talent and would rather see him do more of the off the wall less flashy films like The Machinist and American Psycho.

I guess I just don't want him to change his views and start only picking big budget type films since Batman and hopefully 3:10 To Yuma are getting him way more exposure. I like him as that kind of actor that you know will pick some smaller films but ones that are interesting and different.

Christian Bale is very Pacino like, great at what he does, but he doesn't really change a whole lot, he has this radius of roles, but doesn't have a wide array of radius'

He'd be very good though..

So I'm guessing this project got canned?

The Script reviews sounded promising but it's probably best the film isn't made especially after Kurt Russle spoke out against it.

I wonder if the fact that Doomsday flopped at the box-office had any effect on whether or not they'd go forward with this film.

Seeings as this would be the same type of film, but would cost about 90 million more to make... its a big risk. Huge Budget, R-rating, and then ti could end up pulling in similiar numbers to doomsday.

New Line was absorbed by Warner Bros so it depends on the contract. WB probably has the rights and they'd be foolish to let those expire. They also had Gears of War.

Didn't the director and Gerard both bail out on it?

Yeah. Hopefully they'll convert it into a sequel instead and move on with it. Kurt Russel is definitely not to old for another go. I mean it's obvious they wanted to remake this because remakes are "in" right now, but the whole "aging action hero going on one last adventure" is just as in.

Yep, and then they gave it to Jonathan Mostow.
Im not really opposed to him directing it, more indifferent than anything. T3 alone was not a bad action film but it wasn't a good terminator film, he wasn't able to live up to what Cameron did with 1 and 2.

Hunter is gonna hate this but now without Gerard in it, Josh Holloway as snake! haha

Gerard s out? Great! Josh send your CV

Didn't Josh at some point turn down playing Gambit because the character was too close to his character on Lost? Surely this would also apply to Snake?

from what i have read, yes he has turned down roles that were too much like his character sawyer, but as for gambit the shooting schedule of Lost interfered with him playing that role. Your right though he might not want to play snake for that reason, but he would be the main character in a big budget movie so that could make an influence on his decision.

I hope Kurt Russel is able to make an apperance :) But I'm a definitely keep my eyes and ears on this one. That movie is just a fun fulled ride :) I remember when I was younger my dad had a poster of it with the Statue of Liberty's head in the middle of NYC. I always wanted to know what it was about when I was younger :)

I don't want Kurt back as the lead and I don't want another sequel. I want a new franchise with the right talent behind it. A new foundation to build the franchise off of.

I would want a prequel but it would also kick off a new set of Escape films.

They were doing a Escape from NY story but with a big backstory behind it. That sounded good. I'll bet New Line wanted to make it PG and light and Gerard walked.

I figured Gerard walked becuase of the bad press caused by Kurt's comments...

No remakes! No prequels! Kurt Russell made Snake Plissken!

How about some original ideas instead?

Well thats pretty stupid of him to think like that. I mean he s not even in the movie industry and he's acting like he s Tom cruise or something. First try to make a movie thats gonna be a blockbuster than you can choose what u want. And frankly I' ll would be honored to play in escape from NY.
