Escape from New York (Remake)

If you "HAD" to recast Plisskin...do you like the choice of Gerard Butler???

  • Yes I like him...not sure if he's my top choice but...I like it! :)

  • No he's not right for the role at all. :(

  • Not bad but...I'm not sure yet...need to give it more time.

Actually this is more awesome than anything that has been awesome before. I couldn't wait for Escape from LA thinking it'd get a big budget and be a great action flick. What a screw up that was. With a hard R rated 300 film doing so well hopefully they give it a solid budget and cast and make it right.

Kurt Russell has to play The President.

As much as I would love for Kurt Russell to have a cameo or more......not going to happen. I had read a review with him and his opinion on this remake. He has a great distaste for this lol. He even mentioned the fact that there casting a Scott(is Butler Scottish or Irish, can't remember) for an American made role and cult icon is wrong.

Watching Kurt Russell play Snake reminds you of just how watered-down Wolverine was in the X-Men movies.

Same. I hope he goes with R.

I hated his Underworld films but Die Hard 4 shows he has talent as an action director.

Len could do great with both of these films. The studio needs to give him R film and no 1.5 hour bull**** in the first film of these new franchises. I want a franchise not a single film.

Being a long time Carpenter fan, I already have my doubts, but I'm a fan of both the director and the star. But Snake is Kurt in my mind. Always will be.

If they do this right, it should be an R.

After seeing Kurt in Grindhouse, I see no reason why they couldn't continue the already existing franchise. Carpenter could have directed another sequel and Kurt could have easily returned as Snake.

Yeah, easily unless Carpenter is producing this like THE FOG.

But I believe this one is coming out of a different company entirely. I think the first film's rights reverted back to another studio hence a remake. Much like what happened with T3.

Why would they remake this? I don't get all of these damn remakes. Remake something that sucked but could have been damn awesome and remake it well!

Because it's a business. They'll remake any and everything they can get their hands on as long as they assume it's profitable.

Yes indeed. In an effort to reboot the franchises.

Escape From New York was never a franchise. It was one really damn good little 80's sci-fi/action film with a really crappy sequel/remake.

The point is Hollywood will take any and everything that they see and tempt into franchise territory or a profitable tool if they can. It's part of the business and a big no duh on ESCAPE being a franchise, but if it bears a sequel, Hollywood considers it in that range.

Generally, the rule is it makes a sequel it's franchise worthy.

The sequel was a piece of garbage that bombed in the 90's.

Again duh, but it was a sequel no less.

At least it had Carpenter and Russell still intact after a long period of time. That's more than most sequels can say.

Nobody can copy what Kurt did for the role but Butler could give us an all new take on the character. Let's face it Kurt is too old and the story is awesome. No doubt it could be really wild with a big enough budget and updated a bit from the late 70's early 80's mindset of the first script. Don't think of it as Butler being better than Russell but just...different.

That's about all this is worth, but it'll be interesting to see, no less.

I disagree.

Escape From New York was a classic. Any attempt at updating will be just that. It won't be a franchise, and it will be a poor imitation of the original. There is only one Snake Plissken.

I'm not saying make another one with Kurt Russell. I'm just saying the original is a classic and damn fine movie for it's time. Kurt Russell's character and performance IMHO is a classic performance. Gerard Butler wouldn't come close.

Do I like Gerard Butler? Yes. He's got some masculine quality that a lot of these pretty boy male actors lack right now. He looks pretty tough. I think he's delivered some good and underrated performances like in DEAR FRANKIE. I still don't think he can make this role work though.
