Kurt Russel is Snake Plissken. There is no other. Why can't they just do another sequel?
I hope this goes into production limbo.
Ew no way he would be a last choice for me. He is a great actor and he is built but he charisma the way he carries himself is just completely wrong for the character of snake.Creative differences? More like Kurt had a talk with him or New Line wanted to go PG-13.
I imagine this film is still going forward so here's my top choice for Snake now:

No those are called great actors, but either way there are just some roles that certain actors/actresses are not able to convincingly do.^ That's why they call themselves "actors". They can portray different characters.

Mathew Mcconnihay(sp?) is too charismatic too pretty boyish for the role of snake. He is better suited as the self sacrificing hero, where snake is an anti hero that only plays the good guy because he is forced to.
Yea how old was he in your reference? Come on now your just grabbing from anywhere. Russel was young there and still a kid. That's what anyone would have said about Kurt Russell before he started working with John Carpenter. All he made was Disney movies for kids, with short hair and was clean shaven.

As I said two pages ago, He proved in Death Proof that he isn't too old to get it done but on the other hand everyone would complain it's just another milker before the guy is too old like Rocky Balboa, Indy 4, & Die Hard.

Yeah but in DP Russel really didn't have to do anything but sit in a drivers seat..being snake is a whole new ball game, especially with the way you know they will do it
I think I would like to see someone real random, who doesn't appear to be a snake but takes the character on, nuances it and tour de forces it in a much different but sweet way as apposed to Russel, cause Russel will be so synonomys with snake unless someone brings a different aspect of him out like the many bonds have done...if every bond had copycated connery the series would be far less popular because everyone would be dissapointed that it isn't connery.. so my choices are
Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Guy Pearce, and Clive Owen (well maybe not the aussie and the brit, but they are still bad asses)...just let a great actor like one of these three take the role and do whatever they want with it
I still however think a Danny Boyle could make a brilliant EFNY, you could almost look at 28 days later as escape from london but with zombies instead of the duke etc
the problem with your comparison (aside from what midnhtsun already posted) is that, at the time Escape from New York was being made, Kurt Russell was just turning 30 and was still an unknown who hadn't done many movies....whereas Matt McConaughey has done numerous movies and is pushing 40. Kurt Russell was a gamble because no one knew his acting range, but everyone knows how Matt McConaughey acts. i like Matt, he's a cool guy and i like most of the movies he's in....but he's not the selfish, anti-hero that Snake is supposed to be.
